Chapter 50: Plotting (2)

"Again, if I do anything to your father then I have to deal with my father. It’s enough that I am at odds with my mother. She knows that she was wrong so she is hiding to avoid me. These seven days need to go by fast so she can go back to normal. I won’t be able to live here if she suddenly turns into your mother. No offence," Tobias added.

Edgar didn’t care about the mention of his mother. If the queen were to be like his mother Priscilla Collins then Edgar would be in the palace a lot less.

Normally, the queen was kind whenever Edgar came around because of his family name. No one would like to get on the bad side of the Collins family which then meant you would be on the bad side of the Carsons.

Tabitha treated Edgar well because she wanted someone with his influence around Tobias for when he would be king and Edgar had long seen past her kindness. It was when he was young and brought another friend into the palace who Tabitha didn’t think made a good fit to be around the prince.

Now that friend was becoming a well-known knight just like his father and the queen was warming up to him.

"I’m trying my best to get Edgar more involved in the court. With him there, the cases might be dealt with faster," Edmund was heard as he spoke to the king. He had a good reputation in the court for all the work he put in so it would be good to continue what he started with Edgar taking his place.

"I’m going to kill him one day,’ Edgar said, annoyed by his father making plans for him. Where was this interest when he was younger? It was too late to try getting him to join the court when he already hated it and everyone in it.

"I’m sure you will. Try not to do it when you are in the palace. I honestly think your mother will kill him before you. Try to think about someone else to use and start to spread it around. Also, I’ll be at your home for the rest of the day so I need you to help me sneak out of here," Tobias said, looking away from Edgar because he already knew that Edgar must be looking to choke him now.

"Like hell you are. I already told you to find another estate you can run off to. I am going home alone. Alone," Edgar stressed the word again in case Tobias missed it the first time.

Edgar didn’t care much about the selection, but he unfortunately knew because of Alfred’s interest in it that there were events for Tobias to take part in all day. Tobias running away would cause a big problem later when he would be missing in the palace.

Edgar would tie Tobias to a chair if he needed to keep him here. He looked forward to an evening and night without seeing anyone. It was why he lived away from his family.

"How rude of you, Edgar. Your dear friend needs a place to stay tonight and you refuse to help me. To think I was going to give you a nice title when I became king. Now you are not getting it anymore," said Tobias.

"Good. I didn’t want it," Edgar replied, still not helping Tobias sneak out of the palace.

Edgar had everything he needed thanks to his inheritance and what his grandmother had given him. He had invested his money well so that he would never need Tobias’s help or his father again.

"You need to help me or if not, when I am king I will put out an order for you to marry- Hey!" Tobias exclaimed as Edgar’s hands got dangerously close to him.

Jeffrey and Edmund both turned to their sons.

"We must be boring them. Edgar, I will speak to you another time and I send what I have for you straight to your home. Next time you come, you should bring Alfred," Jeffrey said as the butler was always good at mixing tea the way he liked.

If Jeffrey could find out what it would take to swindle Alfred from Edgar’s side and get him to be the head butler in the palace, he would do it in a heartbeat. It was about time Alfred had passed on his skills to others.

"It is a nice offer, but I don’t take Alfred around where there is evil. That’s why my father rarely sees the inside of my home," Edgar said, lowering the hand he was going to choke Tobias with.

On second thought, it might be a good idea for him to sneak Tobias out of here so he could kill him. Tobias as king meant that he had more power to bother Edgar with.

"I see. You two can go off to do whatever you do for fun while I finish speaking with Edmund. Please stay far away from the women in the selection. There will only be trouble if they see the two of you together," Jeffrey said, hoping to avoid something that would have Tabitha pacing in the room again.

Tobias was glad to leave since being here served him no purpose. His father had just handed him the perfect time for him to sneak out of the palace with Edgar. Regardless of whether Edgar helped him or not, Tobias would find his way out of the palace.

Since Hazel had to stay in her room, he was going to stay away from the palace. This would be his mother’s punishment to show that he had inherited her pettiness and it was so much more than she had ever seen.

Tobias followed Edgar out of the room, heading toward the palace gates most likely.

"Before we go, I have new weapons that might interest you and wine that only the palace had the pleasure of tasting. My sister is busy with her governess so you don’t need to worry about her coming to see you. I don’t want her to see you because it pains me how much she sometimes loves you more than her older brother. Are you coming for a drink?" Tobias asked, stopping because they would need to turn around.

Edgar was interested in returning home, but new weapons were something he liked to hear about. "It better be worth my time," he answered, deciding to stay in the palace a little longer.

"It will be. I should get a servant to bring us some glasses and have the wine brought up from storage. Oh, look at them," Tobias said, watching a group of men heading toward the door they came out of. "Rushing to see my father. The baron has become their little leader."

"So it seems," Edgar replied, walking away before they would be spotted. They had picked the perfect time to leave so he wouldn’t have to listen to the group of men try to kiss the king’s ass because there was something they wanted.

"You should spread something around about one of them," Tobias said as he didn’t care what happened to those men.
