Chapter 17: Chapter 17 I’m Going to Fight_1
Chapter 17 -17 I’m Going to Fight_1
Yang Chengrong and his three brothers were stunned by the scene before them; their little sister had not only kicked down a boar weighing hundreds of pounds but had also slit its throat. She was simply too formidable.
“Ninth sister, are you okay?” Yang Chengrong hurried over and asked with concern, finally coming back to his senses.
Gently shaking her head, Yang Mengchen said to her still shaken brothers, “I’m fine.”
“Ninth sister, what was that move you just used? Can you teach me?” Yang Chengning asked eagerly.
Ever since their father had returned from the battlefield with an arm lost, he had vowed to become a soldier, to find a way to the border adjacent to Beiyue Country. He was naturally strong, and if he could learn his sister’s martial arts, he surely would be able to defeat Beiyue’s troops, to avenge their father and those fallen soldiers.
“Of course, I will teach my brothers.” Seeing the fervent and eager light in Yang Chengning’s eyes, Yang Mengchen slightly furrowed her brows, “But why are you in such a hurry to learn martial arts, Second Brother?”
“I want to go to war!” Yang Chengning proclaimed with confidence.
Seeing that the other three brothers were all surprised and apparently unaware of the second brother’s thoughts, Yang Mengchen pondered for a moment before speaking, “Second Brother wanting to go to war is not impossible, but…”
“But what?”
“But first, you need to learn to read.”
“What does reading have to do with fighting a war? I’m strong, and with power like my sister’s, I’m sure to win battles.” There are so many people in the village who can’t read, yet they still go to war, don’t they?
“Merely being strong and skilled in martial arts can only make you a decent fighter,” Yang Mengchen did not mean to discourage her brother; knowing that ancient battlefields often meant a high likelihood of death, if her second brother truly wished to go to war, she hoped he would be well-prepared, “If Second Brother wants to win battles, to be invincible and unstoppable, there is much more to learn.”
“Then what else do I need to learn?” asked Yang Chengning, while the other three brothers also looked at their sister.
“Second Brother should know that ‘right timing, geographical convenience, and human harmony’ are key to victory in war.”
“I’ve heard Father mention it.”
“Timing involves many aspects, among which the climate is very important. For instance, it’s not suitable to march or fight during heavy winter snow, but freezing water can break rocks, useful for besieging cities. The extreme heat of summer greatly affects the health of soldiers, and understanding medicine can help reduce such senseless loss;
Geographical advantage includes factors like the height and width of city walls, the direction and tide of rivers. Knowing how to utilize the natural terrain for offense or defense requires arithmetic and an understanding of troop deployment;
As for human harmony, the most crucial aspect is maintaining morale, not only to gauge the enemy’s psychology but also to keep our soldiers vigilant and resilient in victory and defeat—this is psychological warfare;
Only by first learning to read can one understand these knowledge and skills, achieving overwhelming success on the battlefield and standing invincible!”
Seeing Yang Chengyu’s face becoming gloomier, Yang Mengchen spoke earnestly, “I don’t say this to discourage you, Second Brother, but to tell you that learning to read is important. If one day you do go to battle, I hope you can use what you have learned to protect yourself and stay alive.”
“Ninth Sister, rest assured, I will definitely learn to read and study hard!” Yang Chengyu nodded solemnly, “Ninth Sister, you know so much, it’s truly amazing!”
Yang Chengrong and his two brothers were also filled with admiration and pride.
“I believe that in the future, each of my brothers will become the most incredible figures under heaven, and Second Brother will be a general known for his triumphs across the land!”
Since Second Brother was set on going to battle, Yang Mengchen decided, when she had time, to transcribe the Art of War by Sun Tzu and the Taibai Yin Scripture, combining them with modern special forces tactics and strategies, to gradually train Second Brother. She also planned to visit the bookstore to see if there were additional military texts available. This way, Second Brother would have a better chance of survival. As for the other seven brothers, she would also explore and guide their potentials, not necessarily to gain fame and glory, but at least to secure a stable living.
It was this very decision of Yang Mengchen’s that completely changed the fate of the Eight Sons of the Yang family. Years later, Yang Chengyu indeed became a renowned Great General, while his other seven brothers each became widely known and respected, none daring to underestimate them.
With such trust and high hopes placed on them by their sister, the four brothers silently vowed never to let their sister down.
“Ninth Sister, that White Tiger seems near its end,” Yang Chengxuan suddenly spoke up.
Yang Mengchen turned to look and saw that the White Tiger was indeed lying on the ground weakly, all its ferocity gone, with a look of pleading in its eyes.
“Ninth Sister…”
The four brothers all stopped her from approaching, as the White Tiger was not yet dead and could certainly still harm their sister.
Shaking her head to signal her brothers not to worry, Yang Mengchen walked over to the White Tiger, only to discover a large pool of blood beneath it. “I’m willing to save you, but I don’t have the tools right now, and you’re too severely injured. I’m powerless to help,” she said.
Unexpectedly, the White Tiger shook its head and a small, cute white tiger cub crawled out from behind it, its moist eyes looking up at Yang Mengchen.
“Do you want me to look after it?” Yang Mengchen seemed to understand why the White Tiger had such a pleading look in its eyes earlier.
The White Tiger nodded its head and turned to gaze at the cub, its eyes full of love and reluctance.
Yang Mengchen’s eyes began to moisten — the sight before her seemed to bring back memories of her father heading off to work and Grandma Zhang on her deathbed; the way they looked at her was exactly like this. So, she reached out and stroked the cub’s head. “Are you willing to come with me?”
After looking at the White Tiger and seeing it blink, the tiger cub affectionately nuzzled Yang Mengchen’s palm.
The White Tiger slowly closed its eyes.
A mournful howl escaped from the cub, its cry sorrowful and heart-wrenching.
Yang Mengchen slowly stood up, and with a subdued voice tinged with misty eyes, she said, “Brothers, let’s bury it.” The White Tiger’s selfless maternal love had touched her. They would bury it here so the cub could visit anytime.
Without another word, the four brothers began to dig a grave and buried the White Tiger.
Nudging Yang Mengchen’s pants leg, the cub walked forward. Seeing that Yang Mengchen did not follow, it stopped, turned its head, and looked back at her.
“Do you want us to come with you?” Yang Mengchen asked.
The tiger cub shook its head.
After exchanging glances with her brothers, the five siblings followed the cub for about half a quarter of an hour to a small cave. At the entrance, the cub pawed the ground a few times and then looked at Yang Mengchen.
“Big Brother, it wants us to help dig something up,” Yang Mengchen told her brothers.

Upon hearing this, the four brothers went forward with their shovels, and after a while, they unearthed a small army-green camouflage box with a handgrip on top and straps on the sides, adorned with a red cross.
Yang Mengchen’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she quickly took the box and placed it on the ground.
Inside the three-layered box, the left side of the first layer held a deer skin pouch filled with needles of various thicknesses and lengths, each needle black with a hint of dark red. The right side neatly displayed matching colored knives, and a small glass bottle containing black pills.
