The Martial Unity-Chapter 3057: A New Generation of Sages
Chapter 3057: A New Generation of Sages
Very few recognized the man in the image.
And that in and of itself was a problem.
The Esoterist raised an eyebrow. "That’s the guy leading the Kandrian team to analyze the alien aircraft and the captured entity. He’s definitely intelligent and a polyscholar in multiple disciplines, but..."
The Esoterist shrugged. "I don’t think he’s worthy of sagehood."
The Beggar Sage stroked his long flowing beard. "Julian Quarrier. A foster brother of the Dawnbringer. Displayed prodigious growth with very early signs of genius-level intellect. His talent is not lacking, but..."
The Beggar Sage shook his head.
"He’s all over the place."
Immortal sages were not generalists; they focused their efforts on one field, no matter how broad and vast it was.
It was even fine if one focused one’s attention across several closely related fields like the Beggar Sage had with epistemology, statistics, data science, and information science to become a master of knowledge and information.
"However, in the case of this particular nominee," the Beggar Sage continued. "He has spread himself thin over several fields, including but not limited to potions, esoteric technology, Martial science, medicine, and biotechnology. He has chosen to become a jack of all trades as opposed to a master in one field. It’s truly unfortunate."
The Beggar Sage shook his head.
"He had the opportunity to be among us, but he has squandered his talent by focusing on too many things at once."
The Divine Doctor directed a clinical gaze towards the Beggar Sage.
"I beg to differ."
His tone was flat.
His smile was as frozen as ever.
"I think you sell him short,’ the Divine Doctor continued with unmoved, clinical tone. "It is indeed true that he has spread himself across many fields, but it is also true that that lends him a perspective that is very different from anything that a specialist could possibly have."
The Divine Doctor’s gaze returned to the image of Julian Quarrier. "He has been of great help to me in my studies and projects, precisely due to a foundation in many fields. I believe that he has the potential to become a sage."
The Beggar Sage fell into thought. "Hm, I will not discount that possibility, but until he demonstrates some extraordinary feat or capability by virtue of his mastery of several fields of knowledge, I can’t allow his entry among the immortal sages. His value to human civilization is simply not visible."
The Esoterist nodded with a knowing expression. "Immortal sages must have already made powerful impacts on human civilization before becoming immortal sages. Until that happens..."
The Esoterist shook his head.
"He is simply not worthy."
Whether the Divine Doctor agreed or not, he didn’t seem to care to pursue the matter. He simply sat with content silence, willing to let the others cite their claims to human civilization.
The meeting continued as the immortal sages of human civilization continued to share their various nominations, many of whom were shot down for failing to meet one of the criterias of becoming immortal sages, as Julian had.
"Not talented enough."
"Not dedicated enough."
"Compromised allegiance."
The Beggar Sage ruthless shot down most of them, having knowledge all the people recommended by the various immortal sages.
And yet, there were those who managed to get past even his strict screening.
"The Linguister."
Samita Mira. A master of language, script, linguistics, and communication from the Gen Temple with a long history of deep research into the field, formulating what became the basis of the current scientific understanding of human communication.
They hoped that she could help them decode the language of foreign civilizations once they started gathering intelligence on the true world civilizations. The sooner they could decode their language, the sooner they could gain access to more crucial intelligence and information, potentially making the difference between life and death.
A means of communication also opened up the potential for cooperation if there was the opportunity.
"The Solarion."
Milane Silen. A scientist from the Solaris Kingdom who had mastered the power of the Sun developed technologies that would allow one to harness and store the energy of the Sun for later use, revolutionizing human civilization’s energy paradigms and giving them virtually endless clean energy. This suggestion, made by the Astromind, came after the Solarion proposed a spherical device that would form a layer rotating around the Sun, absorbing light from the Sun directly.
"The Subterranist."
Morin Feelis. A retired head of the subterranean life-sustaining systems of the Nest of Terra, at the end of his life, having created and upgraded revolutionary technologies to make mass subterranean life much more sustainable, having produced a wealth of research, and filed half of all patents in this niche field of technology.
"The Apotheosist."
Lena Lia. A Martial scientist who had dedicated her life to cracking the Dawnbringer’s breakthrough mechanism from scratch over the span of two decades, and the only person to have ever achieved mild success in replicating Rui Quarrier’s breakthrough mechanism for the Apprentice, Senior, and Master Realms. This alone, in addition to her proven prodigious talent, was enough to make her an immortal sage in the hopes that she could deprive the Dawnbringer of one of his greatest leverages of human civilization.
"The Binder."
Reavens Melm. A sociologist from the Hive who dedicated his life to understanding the principles of the Hive people and their connected minds and devised methods, techniques, and even technologies to replicate the phenomenon among people across human civilization to potentially create a Hive Humanity that retained much of the benefits and advantages that the Hive had. Something that could greatly aid the collectivist reforms of the Emperor of Harmony and serve them against the incoming war.
"The Beast Tamer."
Molin Nyles. The only woman known to have been able to tame beasts and monsters in the Beast Incursion, having been partially brought up by a plurality of beasts and monsters when she was abandoned in the forest as a child. It was hoped that human civilization would harness the beasts and monsters of the Panama Continent in the upcoming conflict.
And thus, the immortal sages expanded their ranks with many new approved sages who were ready to help human civilization in a new age upon the Unfolding.
