Jason Cross's knuckles tightened around the leather steering wheel, his sharp eyes flicking to the rearview mirror. The sleek, black sedan tailing him had been keeping its distance for miles, but Jason wasn't a man who let such things slide.

His lips curled into a faint smirk. Since he knew that this was no coincidence, there was no need to be nice about things. After all that person might have been following and scouting him out since yesterday already. If that was the case then he was not going to let things stay the same way they were and he could not let them look the way they were going to be.

The city lights blurred as he swerved into a side street, tyres screeching slightly as the car came to a halt. He stepped out, his polished shoes clicking against the pavement. The sedan hesitated before pulling to a stop a few yards away. Jason's confident stride carried him to the middle of the street, where he stood waiting, arms crossed and a sharp gaze locked on the driver's door.

Well? Why dont you come out brother? It's too late to act like you don't know what's going on.

Jason was thinking this, but at the same time, he was not going to delude himself. The person might be an assassin or he might be just an information broker. Whatever he was, he was going to be armed to the teeth and this would always lead to things and situations that would make sure to give him some real ideas on how to carry on.

That was why Jason was ready for anything, and everything. He wanted to see just what was going to happen to him if things went the way he wanted them to.

A man stepped out, tall and wiry, dressed in an ill-fitting suit that spoke of function over form. His eyes scanned Jason with a mixture of suspicion and respect.

"Jason Cross," the man said, his voice gravelly. "You're a hard man to track down, harder still to figure out. How does someone with no family and no friends live like a king?"

Jason's smirk widened, his amusement barely concealing the glint of menace in his eyes. The house he owned wasn't even publicly registered to him yet. Whoever this man was, he'd done his homework. That made him dangerous.

But that was exactly the thing. Dangerous people were not invincible.

They were easy to take down if you did things right. And Jason was all about taking things to that level and doing things right.

"Who sent you?" Jason asked, his voice calm but carrying a weight that pressed down on the air between them. He said things this way even while seeing the impression on the man's Jacket, and it was very obvious to Jason that this man had something on him, a weapon, whatever kind it was, it was real.

The man hesitated before replying. "My boss. She's curious about you, about your money, your connections. She wants to know if there's something in it for her. And I am the man sent to get that information. By force or any method I can. So if you could make things easier for both of us that would be great."

Jason's eyebrow quirked. "'She,' you say? Interesting. How did you know I love women? Well, then as you said, I should make things easier for both of us. Let's cut to the chase, then. Take me to her."

The man stiffened, clearly caught off guard. "That… won't be necessary. She's not interested in meeting—"

Before he could finish, Jason closed the distance in a flash, his movements a blur of precision. His fist connected with the man's gut, followed by a sharp uppercut to the jaw, sending him sprawling onto the pavement. He was unconscious. Just a simple combo like this was easy enough to take her down.

Jason shook his head. Maybe it was just because he was a killing machine, or maybe this guy whoever he was was out of shape. Whatever. He was not here to talk. Jason crouched beside him, plucking a burner phone from the man's pocket.

He tapped the screen, finding only one number saved. One number on the burner, who else could it be other than the person he was in contact with?

Maybe a handler, maybe even the boss herself. Let's give it a call.

Without hesitation, he pressed the call. After a few rings, a woman's voice answered, smooth and commanding.

"Dan, did you get the information?"

Dan? So that's the man's name. Interesting.

Jason's voice was a low purr, laced with amusement. He recognised the voice after all, and he wanted to see just how she would react to hearing him speak.

"No, he didn't. But I'll save him the trouble. Hello, Katherine."

There was a pause before she responded, her laugh light but edged with intrigue. "Jason Cross. I'd say I'm surprised, but I've learned not to underestimate you. To what do I owe the pleasure? Especially on my man's phone."

"Your man? I didnt know you had such mediocre tastes. Dan is over here sleeping, but I'm wide awake. And I was thinking about you." Jason chuckled as he reached his side and grabbed his gun and other weapons from his body. "Why don't I come over? We can have a proper chat."

Katherine's tone turned to tease. "Are you sure you're not just looking for an excuse to see me? Rumor has it you've been quite busy… entertaining."

Jason's smirk deepened. "What can I say? I'm a man who appreciates beauty. Especially if the beauty gets someone to follow me around during the day and night just to find out about the other women in my life."

Her laughter rang out again, a melody of confidence. "Very well, Mr. Cross. Come find me when you're ready forgive Dan. He's ex special forces but… he's also a bit old. I sent him on this chase because I had a hunch. Something tells me my hunch was on the money."

Jason ended the call, putting the weapons he had collected from the man into his blazer pocket. He then glanced down at the man groaning on the ground. "Get up. We're going to meet your boss."

The drive to the opulent villa was quiet, tension simmering as Jason led the way, the sedan trailing behind him. The estate loomed large under the rising sun, its grandeur a testament to wealth and power.

Jason chuckled. She was next door to his home. How funny.

"I'll be back in ten minutes. Need to get a shower before gracing your boss with my presence," Jason said with a smirk, as he entered his Villa that was equally as big on the other end of the driveway. Jason smirked as he left and Dan watched him leave with a frown and some resentment in his heart.

Jason had woken up and told him he was going to meet his boss, and it had immediately become clear what had happened. He had gotten knocked out, cold. Clean. Terrifying that it was done by a boy ten years his younger too.

Jason smirked as he left, leaving Dan there to walk over to his mistress's villa, finding her sprawled on the sofa in silk robes, and looking at Dan, who walked in like a dog with a tail in between its legs. Katherine smirked as he walked in. He must have taken a big hit.

"Dan, can you explain it to me?" she said to the man with a smirk. Dan stood there in front of her with his arms behind his back.

"No maám I really can't. He was way stronger and faster than I initially was thinking of. It seems to me like he had a vast military training, but we researched his entire life and we know for a fact that he had nothing like that. He had been a normal person his entire life, not even holding a gun, and yet there he was… What can I say… He reminded me of my sergeant."

Katherine nodded, her voice coming out like a purr. "So he has a million secrets… and you dont understand how it's possible." Dan nodded and said nothing else. Katherine smiled.

"It's okay, Dan. You have done well this time. Believe it or not, but what you exposed has confirmed that Jason was the one who was behind the Pills. Or at least he has some hidden connection to this little gangster Troy. After all, think about it. A man with nothing somehow buys the things he buys along with the shares he has? How does that happen without backing?"

Dan's eyes popped open as he heard those words. His missus was the most intelligent woman he had ever met. Whenever she got that look in her eyes, she became a beast, and it became clearer and clearer and she was onto something.

"Well, then why dont I explain it to you, Dan? Yesterday, his little girlfriend gets kidnapped and then she gets saved, and in that ordeal, a lot of men get killed. And when that happened, they all looked like they were about to work hard at it, It was pretty funny to see something like that. But at the same time, it was nothing important and it was way too funny to see. "

"Well, here goes my hypothesis. Jack kidnapped her girl. And he took her away to have some leverage over Jason to find out exactly the information we were looking to find out. Probably about the pill, maybe about something else. Anyway, Jason was taken away but he got Troy to save his girl, thus allowing him to walk out of the trap with everything intact. The Cross family must be having an interesting time right now."

After hearing those words, the man's eyes went wide. So that's what happened… Interesting. Jason smirked. However, in the next moment, he smirked. His boss was still as bright as ever. He was lucky to be working for a person like her.

Dan looked at his mistress in a bit of fear. "So what's going to happen next?" he asked hesitantly. Katherine smiled at the man. But before she could speak something happened.

*Dong Dong Dong!*

There was a knock at the door. It must be him... The man who had knocked him out. Damn it... Jason seemed to be outside. Checking his watch, Dan's eyes widened. He said ten minutes and he knocked ten minutes later. How terrifying.

"Well, he's punctual. Why don't you let him in, Dan?" Katherine said, flashing a smirk. Dan nodded and began walking towards the door.

Should he punch his face when he sees him?
