The Monster King's Legacy-Chapter 218: The Dragon Elders’ Power
The dragons didn't wait for a reply. With incomprehensible speed, they lunged at the Titans, their massive wings creating shockwaves that blew off most of the surrounding terrain.
Elder Thoryx clashed with the first Titan, the impact a spectacle of raw power. The Titan swung its massive arm, but the elder caught it mid-swing, his claws digging into the stone and molten flesh. With a roar, he lifted the Titan off the ground and hurled it into a nearby mountain, shattering the peak and close to half of it.
The second elder unleashed a torrent of flame from his maw, the fire so intense that it raised the entire surrounding temperature. The flame engulfed the second Titan, searing away half its body in an instant. The Titan roared in agony but continued to fight, its remaining arm swinging wildly as it tried to retaliate.
The third elder moved with blinding speed, his body a blur as he circled the third Titan. His claws and tail struck with surgical precision, tearing through the Titan's defenses and breaking it apart piece by piece.
The fourth Titan fought fiercely, its massive frame nearly matching the dragons in power. But the combined might of the elders overwhelmed it.
In mere minutes, the battlefield was littered with the remains of four Titans, their once-mighty forms reduced to rubble and ash.
While the dragon elders dominated their foes, Lance faced a fifth Titan alone. This one was different, smaller than the others, but faster and more relentless. Its attacks came in rapid succession, forcing Lance to stay on the defensive.
He dodged another crushing blow, his body aching from the repeated impacts, comforted only by his healing magic.
"This isn't working," Lance muttered, letting out a stream of breath. "I'm barely scratching it."
The Titan roared, its glowing eyes locking onto Lance as it lunged forward. Lance countered with a flurry of his cleaving technique that came like wind blades, aiming for its legs and joints. The attacks landed, but the Titan's speed and durability nullified most of the damage.
'Hmm…'
…
The dragon elders turned their attention to Lance's battle, their immense forms circling overhead.
"He's holding his own," one of the elders observed, his voice tinged with respect.
"It'll be a disgrace if he wasn't."
The elders began to move toward Lance, ready to intervene. But the Titan, sensing the dragons' approach, unleashed a devastating energy blast, its plan, to force the elders to retreat momentarily… Though, it didn't work, and they easily went through the attack as though it was nothing. Needless to say, he shared the same fate as the others, and Lance had been the one to kill him even.
…
The battlefield all over was chaos. The Titans pressed relentlessly, their sheer power threatening to overwhelm every single thing in sight, but just as the situation seemed hopeless, the air changed.
A golden light spread across the battlefield, casting a radiant glow over the chaos. The Titans froze, their movements faltering, as an overwhelming presence descended upon the world.
A rumble, deeper than any sound ever heard, resonated across the battlefield, shaking the very fabric of reality. The dragon elders stiffened, their eyes wide with reverence.
"It's… the Dragon God," Elder Thoryx whispered, his voice trembling with awe.
Far above, the clouds parted to reveal a stream of pure light descending from the heavens. The light wasn't directed at one place; it split into countless beams, each one seeking out an individual across the world.
Every dragon-blessed individual, from the elite troops Lance had trained to Aelyndra herself, felt the surge of power coursing through them. Their bodies glowed faintly, their strength amplified beyond comprehension.
As the light touched Lance, his surroundings disappeared. He found himself in a vast expanse of nothingness, where time and space seemed irrelevant. Before him loomed a colossal dragon, its form so immense that it seemed to stretch beyond the boundaries of the universe itself.
The dragon's eyes glowed with an ancient wisdom, and though it did not speak, its presence conveyed an undeniable power. A stream of light flowed from its body, spreading into countless directions like rivers branching off from a single source.
Lance felt himself drawn to the stream of light flowing toward him. He reached out, his hand brushing against it.
The moment he touched it, an indescribable warmth enveloped him. Instinctively, he began pulling on the light, dragging it toward himself as though reeling in a rope. With each pull, the light grew brighter, filling him with a strength he had never known.
The dragon before him watched silently as Lance continued to pull more of the light into himself. The stream grew thicker, its intensity blinding. Just as Lance felt he could take more, his vision went blank.
Back on the battlefield, Lance's body was suspended in the air, glowing so brightly that it was almost impossible to look at him. The light radiating from him washed over the battlefield, momentarily halting the fighting as everyone, friend and foe alike, stared in awe.
The dragon elders, who had seen countless miracles in their lifetimes, were speechless.
"What is this?" one of the elders murmured. "A second baptism?"
"That's impossible," another elder said, though his tone was filled with reverence rather than doubt.
A Titan, sensing the danger from Lance's transformation, roared and lunged toward him. Its massive form tore through the battlefield, its molten core glowing brighter as it prepared a devastating attack.
Elder Thoryx reacted immediately, his massive form intercepting the Titan with blinding speed. With a single, earth-shattering strike, he tore through the Titan's body, shattering its core and reducing it to rubble.
As the Titan fell, its remains smoldering, the elder turned his attention back to Lance, who still hovered in the air, unconscious but glowing with the residual power of the Dragon God.
He approached Lance, his colossal form shifting into his human guise as he gently caught Lance in his arms. The glow around Lance began to fade, though faint traces of the Dragon God's power lingered in his aura.
"And he lives," the elder said, his voice filled with both relief and awe. "But his body is adapting to the power. He'll need time to recover."
The other elders landed nearby, their gazes fixed on Lance.
"This is unprecedented," the auburn-haired elder said quietly. "How can it happen twice?"
The golden-haired elder nodded. "Even if this is a peculiar situation where he isn't the only one, it's as if the Dragon God is choosing him directly."
The battlefield fell silent around them as the remaining coalition forces regrouped. The destruction left by the Titans was immense, but the victory was undeniable.
The soldiers whispered among themselves, their eyes fixed on Lance as he was carried back to the capital by the dragon elder. To them, he was no longer just a leader ruling over monsters, after what they just witnessed, he was a living legend, someone most would place amongst the dragons in their imaginations.
