Chapter 21: Chapter 21 – The woman who hurt him so much

"I will go and make dinner,"

Devin said while loosening his tie when he reached his penthouse with Sabrina. This time around she did not want to sit around and cry, thereby insisting,

"I will help."

The meeting with the clients from Asia went well beyond her imagination and she was excited. Her father was there and she could say that she learned a lot in one day, even contributing meaningfully to the discussions. Devin smirked. Her willingness to help only meant that she was gradually getting over her ex-husband.

"Enjoy it while you can. You will cook for me tomorrow since you will be going to live with Dad on Sunday. As much as I want you here, I know that he’s missing you a lot too."

Sabrina pouted. Indeed, her father missed her but she loved to be with Devin too. "Okay, but I’ll still come over anytime I want."

Devin smiled and replied, "Lizzy has a card but I will get you one too so freshen up and relax while I make dinner," he winked.

Sabrina agreed. After freshening up, she lay on the couch reading a few business magazines when a silhouette barged into the living room. A frown impaired her face when she saw Sabrina lying comfortably on the couch. She had a duffle bag in hand and snarled,

"What are you doing in my boyfriend’s house?"

Sabrina was surprised by the remark but the girl’s attitude made her laugh. "Your boyfriend? What’s your name?" She lifted herself to a sitting position and asked since she never recalled Devin saying that he had a girlfriend and thought he must have forgotten to tell her.

"It’s none of your business. What do you want here?" The girl seemed greatly annoyed. She had long straight brunette hair and was dressed in casual blue jeans and a sweater with a hoodie. Seeing how worked up the girl was, Sabrina decided to anger her a little more, saying,

"I’m spending the night so since you are here, come join me, and let’s watch tv." She laid back down with her slender legs stretched.

The girl fumed. Ushering herself in, she walked across, picked up the remote, and turned off the tv. Sabrina stared at her with amusement. "A wild one. Devin is in the kitchen. Will you return the remote now?" She asked politely.

Back in the days, Sabrina would have messed up Devin’s relationship but he was growing, nearing thirty. If this was the girl he wanted, Sabrina would no longer kick against it.

"No. This is my boyfriend’s house and you are not welcome," the girl dropped her duffle bag and stood in front of Sabrina, blocking her sight of vision from the TV. Sabrina smiled. There was no true love without jealousy, for which reason she could not be upset. She clarified,

"Your boyfriend is my..."

"Lindsay, what do you want here?" Devin stepped out of the kitchen with a tray of steaming noodles whiles he glared at the girl coldly and spoke. Lindsay was afraid but forced a smile.

"Devin, can we talk? In private please?"

Devin’s eyes were cold and dark, Sabrina feared for Lindsay, wondering what she must have done to anger him so much. It was rare to see Devin like that.

"Get out!" Devin yelled, raging at the mere sight of her. Lindsay did not seem ready to leave anytime soon and Sabrina’s eyes glued on the TV while her ears gave them attention.

"Look Devin, I can explain everything. What you saw was not real," Lindsay tried to explain in a shaky voice but Devin dropped the tray on the dining table whiles he walked up to her. He stared at her in the eyes and echoed,

"I said, get out or I’ll call security to throw you out."

Lindsay took a step back and skimmed at Sabrina. She shook her head with dismay. "Fine, fine, but you could have chosen someone better to replace me with. She doesn’t look familiar, which also means she doesn’t have a name and or is just a nobody."

"Hahaha," Sabrina laughed, understanding dawning on her that Lindsay belittled her because she was not a star or popular figure but also thought that she was Devin’s girlfriend. Knowing Lindsay, Devin was unmoved by her remark, saying,

"She is still the woman I love so the door is open." He sauntered to the door and opened it for her to walk out. Lindsay picked up her duffle bag, her head lowered in shame whiles she asked,

"You are not upset that I said those things about her?"

Devin shrugged. "Why should I be upset when your words mean nothing to me? Everything coming out of your mouth is just trash and you know where your kind belongs? In the dumpster."

Lindsay lifted her head and her eyes were scarlet and moist. Devin was good to her. He gave her everything but she messed up. However, she did not expect that he could use such words against her.

"Devin, how can you say those things when you know that I love you so much?" Pain registered in her eyes which made Devin wonder if she was the same woman who hurt him so much.
