The Reborn Sidekick Rejected The Male Lead-Chapter 39 - Her Dad is a Tycoon
Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Her Dad is a Tycoon
Chapter 39 -39: Her Dad is a Tycoon
Lu Jingqiu entered the Juvenile Children’s Publishing House building with an excited heart. The publishing house had two floors; both the upper and lower floors were wooden, with heavy curtains and dim light bulbs. When walking up or down the stairs, the floorboards would creak and crack. If one were alone at night, the sound could be quite unsettling.
She walked into the president’s office and handed over her credentials.
President Li appeared to be in his fifties. Upon seeing her, he pushed up his glasses, glanced at her resume, and didn’t say much, simply instructing her, “Comrade Jingqiu, we have all witnessed your capabilities. The construction of Ten-miles Village has been called by our department yesterday; the transfer documents should come through soon. Deputy Editor-in-Chief Yang will be in charge of you. Go see her later and follow her arrangements.”
“Thank you, President. I will certainly work hard at each task and will not disappoint you.”
“Haha, I like the enthusiasm you young people have. Our society will rely on you youngsters in the future.”
After agreeing for a while, Lu Jingqiu went downstairs. If one were to say “before,” she certainly wouldn’t be so articulate, usually being willful and arrogant, the kind who wouldn’t even spare a glance at the president.
Now, she was shaped by decades of hardships and nurturing.
Downstairs, she met Yang Ting, who took her to the editorial department and introduced her around, then took her to the illustration department, which was a room of about twenty square meters inside the editorial department. Since it was located inside the editorial department, the door was in the middle, directly opposite a square window.
On one side of the room, two desks were set up opposite each other; two people were already there, one named Yang Bo, a male comrade, and the other named Luo Xinyue, a female comrade, both in their early twenties, about the same age as her.
Yang Ting pointed to a separate desk on the other side and said, “Comrade Jingqiu, you’ll work here from now on. If you have any issues, come directly to me.”
“Alright.” After Yang Ting left, Lu Jingqiu turned to chat with the two people, only to see Luo Xinyue looking at her with hostility: “You’re Lu Jingqiu, the artist of the illustrations for ‘Warfield’s Little Hero’?”
Lu Jingqiu nodded in acknowledgment, but Luo Xinyue snorted in disdain and lowered her head to continue with her work, blatantly ignoring her.
Yang Bo, eager to defuse the tense atmosphere, warmly smiled and said, “Hello, Comrade Jingqiu, we’re now in the same department, please give me your guidance.”
Lu Jingqiu smiled and replied, “I’m new here, so I will need your help with some things.”
Yang Bo touched the back of his neck sheepishly, “Of course, of course.”
Being colleagues with two female comrades, the most awkward was him.
Lu Jingqiu had no impression of Yang Bo, but she knew of Luo Xinyue. In her previous life when she went to the publishing house, Luo Xinyue was still there.
At that time, Luo Xinyue had been working in the publishing house for ten years, but she was already married.
Luo Xinyue was quite annoying because she got in through connections, was of average ability, and was capricious and arrogant.
She bluntly refused the work she disliked and didn’t give the leaders any face, which led to her being excluded from many editorial assignments. She didn’t care, refusing work she disliked on the spot, which made her situation in the publishing house quite embarrassing, but she was completely unaware of it.
Later, when she took time off to have a second child, she left her job and became a housewife. Later on, she was seen on the street several times looking glamorous, dressed like a wealthy lady.
However, their relationship during their work was not good. Jingqiu took Luo Xinyue’s limelight on numerous occasions over those two months, which earned Luo Xinyue’s resentment, just like this time.
The first day of her new job was indeed boring. Yang Bo and Luo Xinyue were constantly busy with recent illustration work, while she idly sat at her desk, occasionally overhearing the editors outside discussing various issues.
At lunchtime, it was Zhang Miao who took her to the canteen in the backyard. Their publishing house had over forty people, divided into two groups. One group was led by Master Zhang, and the other by Deputy Editor-in-Chief Yang. Besides the editors, there were seven or eight book delivery staff, which made the canteen quite compact, just enough to accommodate them all. According to Zhang Miao, President Li would sometimes take advantage of lunchtime to hold meetings in the canteen, complaining that people couldn’t rest properly even during meals.
Lu Jingqiu found all this fresh and new; she had never worked here before. When she joined the publishing house, they had already moved into a new building.
Zhang Miao also shared some gossip with Lu Jingqiu, speaking quietly, “Because of that picture book incident from last time, she’ll definitely dislike you. You don’t need to bother with her.”
Being alienated by a colleague on the first day surely brought thoughts to mind, but she understood Luo Xinyue, who was simply a spoiled young lady. To say she was similar to the “prior” Jingqiu, she could understand.
“I didn’t do anything today, just sat there feeling bored.”
“There aren’t really any tasks in the last few days, so if you’re bored, you might want to check out some of the books we’ve published previously.”
So, that afternoon, Lu Jingqiu sat in the heated room at her workstation and spent the entire afternoon reading.
After work at five o’clock, Lu Jingqiu rode her bike straight to the state-owned restaurant where her aunt was working, which was busy at that time.

However, her aunt spotted her from the kitchen and smiled, waving her over, “Qiuqiu, finished with work?”
“Yeah, I came to see you right after work.”
“How’s it going, are you adapting well?”
“Yeah, I get along very well with my colleagues.”
Hearing this, Zhou Lanqin felt relieved and quickly gave her the innards from the chickens and ducks they had processed that day, “It’s cold out, hurry home. I probably won’t be finished here until after seven.”
“Okay, auntie, then I’ll head off first.”
Ever since she started taking care of Hua Hua, her aunt would always save some leftover food from the restaurant for the cat, and these innards were what her aunt had mentioned yesterday, so Lu Jingqiu came to pick them up after work.
Hua Hua was now two months old, had grown a lot of fur, and was also very beautiful, especially clingy. Normally, Hua Hua would follow her around the house all the time.
Today, no one had been at home all day, and when Lu Jingqiu arrived back, it seemed like Xiao Hua knew she was coming and was waiting at the door.
“Hua Hua, you’ve got something yummy today. Were you well-behaved at home?”
“Meow, meow.”
Lu Jingqiu took the offal to the kitchen, chopped it up finely with a knife, and cooked it in a pot before giving it to Hua Hua to eat.
In the evening, Lu Xianrun also returned, bringing back a portion of food from the canteen. Lu Jingqiu cooked porridge, and the father and daughter simply ate dinner with that one dish.
Lu Xianrun, worried about his daughter’s first day at work, asked her numerous questions.
“Dad, the publishing house has heating, and my colleagues are very nice. They didn’t ask me to do much today since it was my first day. Overall, it’s been pretty good.”
“I’m relieved to hear that. If it’s too cold to bike, take the bus—we have a direct line here.”
Lu Jingqiu shook her head, “The bus is too crowded during commuting hours; I’d rather bike. Although there’s some snow on the road, it’s still better than squeezing onto the bus.”
Lu Xianrun smiled indulgently, “As you wish,” he said as he pulled out fifty yuan from his pocket and gave it to her, “You’ve started working, so you need to pay attention to your appearance. Girls like you love to dress up; take this money for your expenses for now.”
Lu Jingqiu shook her head, “Dad, I have money.”
Lu Xianrun insisted, “Take it. It was originally set aside for your mother’s medical bills… I don’t spend much aside from smoking. This money is all for you.”
“Dad, how much do we have in our savings book?”
“Ten thousand. Do you need money, Qiuqiu?”
When Lu Jingqiu heard this amount, she couldn’t help but choke: “Cough cough… cough cough…”
Lu Xianrun looked at her surprised face and laughed while rubbing her back to help her catch her breath, “Shocked?”
“Dad?”
