Chapter 181: Ch 181: Solomon Kane- Part 1

’This woman is trouble. I feel like she is here to cause me trouble. What should I do now?’

Solomon Kane’s instincts screamed at him to walk away from Madam Varta, to not let her honeyed words slip into his mind like venom. But he didn’t move.

Instead, he met her gaze, dark eyes searching for deception in the way she stood, in the way she smiled just a little too knowingly.

Something about her was off.

Still, Solomon knew better than to dismiss someone powerful without at least hearing them out.

If she had sought him out, it meant she wanted something— and in this world, that always came with a cost.

He exhaled slowly, grounding himself before speaking.

"Say what you came here for."

Madam Varta’s lips curled upward.

"I came to warn you."

Solomon’s eyes narrowed.

"Warn me?"

She nodded, stepping closer, her presence carrying a subtle weight, like the air around her was bending to her will.

"You will soon be approached by a woman named Miss Shadow. When that happens, do not trust her, no matter what she offers you. If you do, your family will suffer for it."

At the mention of his family, his entire body tensed. His hands curled into fists, but he forced himself to remain calm.

"And why are you telling me this?"

His voice was low, wary.

Madam Varta tilted her head, her expression unreadable.

"Because I can see glimpses of the future. And because I feel responsible for what I see. I do not wish to see you destroyed."

Lies.

She was trying too hard. No one gave something for free in this world, especially not someone like her.

And yet... his instincts weren’t telling him that she was lying. That was the most unsettling part.

Solomon kept his face neutral.

"What do you want from me?"

Madam Varta’s smile widened.

"Nothing much. Just a small favor."

That was the real catch.

"When Miss Shadow comes to you, she will try to recruit you, all I ask is that you give her this."

Madam Varta said.

She pulled out a small packet and handed it to him. Solomon took it hesitantly, feeling the fine grains shift inside the packet between his fingers.

"What is this?"

"A power blocker. It won’t harm her, if that’s what you’re worried about. It will just make her... vulnerable. That way, you can ensure she doesn’t pose a threat to you or your family"

Madam Varta said smoothly.

"I’ll think about it."

Solomon stared at the packet, a deep unease settling in his chest.

Something about this was wrong.

Even if what she said was true—even if Miss Shadow would bring him suffering— this method... this wasn’t how he did things.

He looked up, about to refuse, but Madam Varta was already gone.

Vanished.

Like she had never been there in the first place.

Solomon clenched his jaw and looked at the packet again. The texture was familiar.

His stomach twisted.

This felt like the Awakened drug that had been circulating recently.

His fingers curled around the packet, his first instinct telling him to throw it away, to destroy it.

But instead, he hesitated.

And then, slowly, he tucked it into his coat pocket.

Just for emergencies.

Selene moved carefully through the broken streets, her eyes scanning the ruined buildings and makeshift homes around her.

She had tracked Solomon Kane down using the knowledge from her past life, and while she expected to find him in difficult circumstances, seeing it firsthand still made her uneasy.

This place was a forgotten corner of the world, a place where the weak and the desperate gathered. Where people fought over scraps and resources were more valuable than lives.

And yet, here he was.

Rank #9 among the strongest Awakeners, and he lived in a crumbling slum.

Behind her, Orion let out a low whistle.

"This guy’s in the top ten, right? So why the hell does he live in a dump like this?"

Selene’s expression remained calm, but her voice carried a weight of certainty.

"Because unlike the rest of the people in the top ten, Solomon has morals."

Orion scoffed.

"Morals? In a place like this? Sounds like a death sentence."

Zara, standing beside them with her arms crossed, spoke before Selene could respond.

"You can’t understand everyone, Orion."

Orion frowned but said nothing more.

Selene sighed, stepping forward again. Solomon had been powerful, but unlike others, he refused to abuse that power.

He could have taken what he wanted, ruled over weaker people, and carved out a kingdom for himself.

But he didn’t.

Instead, he protected his people, shared what little he had, and suffered for it.

She respected that.

That was why she needed him on her side.

She reached Solomon’s door in record time before she decided to make her presence known to him and his family.

The knock on the door was light but firm indicating that Selene was here for a purpose.

Selene stood outside Solomon Kane’s home, her expression calm but observant. Orion and Zara stood behind her, their presence quiet yet alert.

After a few seconds, the door creaked open, revealing a young girl—no older than four.

She blinked up at Selene with wide, sharp eyes, her tiny fingers gripping the edge of the wooden door.

Despite her age, there was a watchfulness in her gaze, a wariness that spoke of someone who had seen far more hardship than she should have.

"Who are you? What do you want?"

The child’s voice was small but firm.

Selene crouched slightly, meeting her gaze.

"We’re here to see your brother."

The child’s eyes narrowed slightly, scanning Selene and her companions with a level of scrutiny that was almost unsettling for someone her age.

She doesn’t trust easily, Selene realized. Smart girl.

After a moment of silence, the girl turned on her heel and ran deeper into the house.

A few muffled voices followed before Solomon appeared in the doorway.

His expression remained unreadable.

The moment his gaze landed on Selene, his shoulders stiffened for a split second before he exhaled and stepped aside. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
