The Strongest Curse Master-Chapter 342: Elinor’s Secret
"If you're here for an apology, forget it—you're not getting one," Elinor yelled from her glass cell as she saw her father return with Major Bennett.
Prince ignored the rantings of his willful daughter. Passing her cell, he stopped in front of the adjacent cell. When its glass door opened, he calmly stepped inside, much to Elinor's shock and disbelief. She snapped out of her astonishment when she heard the door shut tightly behind him, locking her father inside.
"Major, what the heck is going on?" Elinor asked Bennett with a frown. She was concerned about her father, but not enough to admit it or show it. What worried her more was that, with her grandfather missing and now her father locked up, the McSuile family's peaceful days were likely over.
"Sigh," Major Bennett let out a deep breath before explaining, "The base's system has been hacked. We're just following protocol. Don't worry—he'll be released once he's cleared of all suspicion."
"The base's system has been compromised? Who would be crazy enough to do that?" Elinor muttered in shock.
Just because someone could catch snakes didn't mean they should go shoving their hands into snake pits—that is, just because someone could hack Base Wulfric's system didn't mean they should try it and risk making enemies with the greatest democracy to ever exist. That was sheer madness.
Ignoring Elinor's shock, Major Bennett reminded her, "Elinor, you're free to go, as long as you promise not to shout nonsense anywhere around or inside the Great Canyon."
"Alright," Elinor agreed, but as the door to her cell opened, she hesitated and asked, "Are you sure? What about the protocol?"
"The General trusts the McSuiles and will forever be indebted to your family's sacrifice for the country. It's just that your father is a rare but dangerous variation among your family members. You understand what I'm saying, right?" Major Bennett explained, making sure Elinor knew there were no hard feelings, even though she had almost compromised Base Wulfric's location by shouting about it at the edge of the Great Canyon, surrounded by tourists.
In Elinor's defense, she couldn't think of a better way to gain access to Base Wulfric as quickly as possible. Regardless, neither Bennett nor Kerrigan seemed to hold it against her.
After all, Elinor was a rising star in the country's curse community. The fact that she was a Void-tier Curse Caster made her even more valuable, even if her father might have disagreed.
The country hadn't lacked strong Curse Masters for a while now; what it lacked were outstanding Curse Professionals. The country's curse community was entering a new era, and talents like Elinor and Aurelian Eyes were carrying the torch. The nation could afford to tolerate a few quirks from its brightest hopes.
"Can I talk to my father?" Elinor asked Bennett as he stepped out of the cell.
"Apart from letting him out, you're free to do anything. Just don't wander where you're not expected," Major Bennett agreed, leaving the father and daughter alone—but not truly alone, as the surveillance team monitored their every move.
"Aren't you a big shot now?" Prince remarked once Bennett had left, seeing his daughter waiting outside his cell.
"This is nothing. Just wait until I become a national asset," Elinor said confidently.
She seemed to have gotten used to the attention she was receiving for killing a Void-tier using a curse spell—an achievement unheard of in the mortal world's curse community until her. In the World of Curses, it was rare, but not unheard of.
Training a capable curse professional took significantly more time and resources than training a capable curse master. The mortal world's curse community had never had a strong enough ecosystem to nurture curse professionals, but the World of Curses had an ecosystem many times sturdier. The countless capable curse professionals it produced were a testament to its strength and resilience.
"You might as well kill yourself rather than participate in the trials with that weak body and lowly tier of yours," Prince sneered, disliking the confident side of his daughter. He couldn't help but wonder how she could be foolish enough to even consider entering the national asset trials, let alone think she could clear them.
"Father, can I ask you something?" Elinor said, her expression suddenly turning serious.
"As long as it isn't about that boy, go ahead," Prince permitted.
Elinor had long made it clear that she came to Base Wulfric searching for him, intending to ask him to lay off Ace Lander. She had been so loud about it that half of Base Wulfric already knew what he had done to Ace. Some called him a monster; others, a genius. Both General Kerrigan and Major Bennett clearly leaned toward the former. Prince was sure this played a role—albeit a small one—in him ending up locked in a cell instead of guarding the Overlords' descendant.
"What did my mom look like?" Elinor asked, her eyes giving Prince a glimpse of the hole she carried around in her heart.
"What do you mean? Didn't you see her pictures? She was the most beautiful and kind woman I had ever met," Prince answered casually, though his eyes dimmed as if he were reminiscing about something deeply personal.
"But she doesn't look anything like the woman in my dreams," Elinor said, revealing a secret she had kept for years. She wouldn't have confessed it if the woman hadn't stopped visiting her dreams to instruct her in curse spells. In her desperation, she could only turn to her father for clues about the mysterious woman.
The woman who had visited her dreams for the past two decades was the reason Elinor had defied her father and family to practice curse spells. It was this woman's teachings that had enabled her to remotely render a Void-tier incapable of fighting using a curse spell. No matter how talented Elinor was or how powerful her innate curse tool and art were, without proper guidance and study materials, she could never have achieved her current prowess in curse casting. Without the legacy of the woman in her dreams, she wouldn't have become the capable curse-caster she was today.

"What woman in your dreams?" Prince asked grimly, rushing up to the glass door of the cell. Then he barked, "Why didn't you tell me sooner? How long has she been visiting your dreams?"
Seeing her father's intense reaction, Elinor instinctively took a few steps back. But now, she was certain—her father knew something about the woman in her dreams.
