Chapter 234: The Mystery of the Blood-Kin's Origin

"Frankly, I was hoping you could find a way to deal with him," Aiden proposed bluntly. "After all, from the perspective of countering powers, you are the most suitable candidate to handle this agent of the God of Death."

A blood-kin possibly wielding three powers related to the 'Death' authority... judging solely by the number of powers, they were already tentatively approaching the level of a Saint of the 'Death' authority—even if the strength of each power likely fell short of a true divine words.

But even such a "pseudo-Saint" would be a difficult opponent for the current Aiden. Although Aiden didn't know much about the 'Death' authority's abilities, even considering it conceptually suggested its powers must be extremely dangerous.

The 'Life' and 'Death' authorities opposed and countered each other. If he could persuade Abigail, a true Saint, to take action, she could surely crush this pseudo-Saint. Of course, even disregarding this relationship, Aiden wouldn't want to face such a troublesome enemy personally.

"I don't mind handling this for Your Excellency; after all, I still owe you a favor," Abigail agreed quite readily. "However, it's inconvenient for me to leave the Forest for extended periods. Unless Your Excellency can first help me locate the target, only then can I set out to eliminate him."

"Even if I wanted to actively root him out, I can only rely on the Inquisition's investigations," Aiden crossed his arms. "Do you have any better ideas?"

"At most, I can control some bats to conduct searches at night. Bats can distinguish between humans and blood-kin," Abigail said slowly. "But... searching an entire city is like finding a needle in a haystack."

"Can't you ask Qimora and the others for help?"

"Does Your Excellency misunderstand the relationship between myself and them?" Abigail refused without hesitation.

Aiden understood her meaning. The other Archwitches of the Coven were not Abigail's subordinates. To mobilize them, Abigail would likely have to offer corresponding benefits. The last time the Archwitches collectively assisted Abigail was mainly because there was an opportunity to acquire divinity.

Thinking of this, Aiden felt a pang of frustration. Currently, in Silver City, the only people and forces most likely to run into that Blood Moon Cult supervisor were himself and the Inquisition. Although Abigail wasn't a fugitive, as the most powerful witch, she undoubtedly severely violated The Covenant's regulations. Getting Abigail to cooperate with the Inquisition, even with him acting as an intermediary connected to both sides, was unrealistic. Mobilizing the witches imprisoned last time had already been pushing it.

But waiting for the pseudo-Saint to come knocking would be too late. Relying solely on the "Return" utterance, he wasn't sure if he could win against three incomplete powers—unlike dealing with Vera's assassination attempt, this wasn't an opponent that could be handled defensively.

"I haven't studied the powers of the 'Death' authority much. Have you?" Aiden asked Abigail.

"I'm not overly familiar either, but I can provide a general concept," Abigail paused. "Black magic is a degraded version of divine word, and necromancy is an incomplete form of the 'Death' authority."

Aiden imagined it briefly. Besides killing life, the 'Death' authority could likely do everything necromancy could, and do it better. Perhaps even... like a lich, preserving its soul in a phylactery, allowing it to "resurrect" by controlling other corpses even if its body was destroyed.

He should probably try asking mephilia for specifics. Such "undead" opponents were the hardest to deal with; just thinking about it gave him a headache.

Could he only hope the Inquisition found the target's trail, then relay the information to Abigail so she could take action?

Just then, another card he held came to mind—Melissa the Diviner. Right, maybe she would have a way to pinpoint the "supervisor" hiding in the city... It might be worth visiting her tomorrow to try. Even if he couldn't learn the enemy's location, he could also inquire about clues for obtaining divine words.

Having tentatively decided on a course of action, Aiden looked at Abigail. "Very well, I'll try to figure out a way to locate him. If I find him, I hope you'll keep your promise."

"Naturally," Abigail replied calmly. "Also, please keep an eye on our business matters, Your Excellency. We are quite concerned about the progress on our end."

Hearing this, Aiden couldn't help but smile wryly inwardly. Abigail clearly wasn't overly concerned about the Blood Moon Cult, even having the leisure to worry about the sanitary napkin production business. It wasn't surprising, really. After all, the Blood Moon Cult was currently active in Silver City, not the Sabbath Forest. Completely opposite to the conflict with the bountiful Mother Cult, this time the enemy seemed to be targeting Aiden's territory first.

What goes around, comes around...

"Alright, alright. Then I..." Aiden was about to take his leave when he suddenly remembered Kyle's situation and asked, "Ah, right. Actually, recently, I encountered a blood-kin Prince claiming to serve the Progenitor and obstruct the Blood Moon Cult's activities. I wanted to ask, is the Blood Progenitor's curse truly bestowed by the God of Death?"

Aiden decided to use this opportunity with Abigail to verify the credibility of Kyle's information.

"Hmm, you could say that. But strictly speaking, the blood-kin's curse wasn't directly given by the current God of Death; rather, it could be said he was harmed by him," Abigail answered.

"What do you mean?" Aiden asked curiously.

"I once spent some time researching blood-kin... As far as I know, Azrael, the Progenitor of the blood-kin, seems to have once been very close to becoming the Dominator of the 'Death' authority. However, during the final step of ascension, some kind of error occurred, causing him to suffer a backlash from the authority's power, turning him into his current cursed form," Abigail replied.

"And the current authority is in the hands of the 'God of Death'..." Aiden blinked, realizing something. "Then, does that mean the one who caused the Blood Progenitor's ascension to fail..."

"Correct. It is highly likely the current Dominator of 'Death'—he probably seized the sole authority from Azrael, which led to the birth of the blood-kin," Abigail nodded.

Aiden fell into deep thought.

So, there truly was a deep-seated feud between the Blood Progenitor and the God of Death—the conflict between the Progenitor Faction and the Death God Faction was real.

However, the Blood Progenitor's true goal was likely not to enjoy eternal slumber, but rather to obtain the God of Death's authority and usurp his position.
