54 -54: Do You Want to Leave Here?
After hearing her words, Heifeng sent a meaningful glance at a man standing beside him, who appeared gentle and soft.
Understanding the cue, the man quickly stepped forward and said to Qi Yu with a smile, “Princess, why not come with me?
I’ll show you around.”
Qi Yu sized up the man.
She noticed that he didn’t look quite like the other Evil Gods in the village, appearing more refined and with a gentleness resembling that of a female.
It was only the long scar across his face that, while he smiled gently, still seemed somewhat chilling.
Once outside, Qi Yu tugged at his sleeve and eagerly asked, “What is your name?”
The man was taken aback for a moment, then answered softly, “Your Highness, my last name is Song, with a single name, Ling.”
Qi Yu raised an eyebrow, surprised to encounter a cultured and polite bandit.
Compared to Heifeng, a name crude to its very core, Song Ling sounded much stronger.
Song Ling had long heard that the Princess of Prince Qiu Residence was not fully lucid and treated her as a child, being much gentler with her than others were.
Qi Yu found it odd as this man didn’t seem to have any connection with the word ‘bandit’ at all.
She asked indifferently, “With such good looks, why do you live with a group of fierce people?”
Song Ling’s expression stiffened, and he dared not meet her clear gaze.
After a long while, he said in a low voice, “I have long been bereft of my family, and besides Heifeng Village, there’s nowhere else in the world that would take me in.”
His tone was very light, and although Qi Yu listened carefully, she couldn’t catch everything.
Yet she could see the resignation and melancholy in his eyes.
“Why am I even telling you this?” Song Ling snapped back to reality and laughed self-deprecatingly.
However, these words that had weighed on his heart could probably only be spoken to someone like her who couldn’t understand them well.
Qi Yu intuitively thought he was a good person, but why such a good person would be in Heifeng Village, she couldn’t figure out.
Song Ling took her for a round through Heifeng Village, and although there were a few guarded places they didn’t visit, they briefly saw everything else.
Indeed, the village was surrounded by mountains on three sides, but there was a small path at the back mountain leading to the base, making an attack from this point simpler than from the front entrance.
Qi Yu walked and memorized these details.
After Song Ling had left, she was brought into a pitch-dark room.
Looking at this airtight room guarded from the outside, Qi Yu was not perturbed, and she lay down on the barren hard bed.
For now, she still had some use to Heifeng, so they wouldn’t kill her yet.
In the darkness, she kept her eyes open, reviewing everything she had seen once more.
Whether it was Song Ling’s background or those areas surrounded and inaccessible, it all suggested that Heifeng Village harbored numerous secrets.
She wondered if she could discover anything before Li Mingjue arrived with his men.
As night deepened, someone suddenly opened the door from outside.
In the darkness, Qi Yu drowsily opened her eyes, and saw Song Ling entering with a food box.
Song Ling lit a few candles, finally bringing light into this pitch-dark room.
“Princess, I’ve brought you some food,” he said.
Song Ling waved to the person on the bed, showing no concern for propriety between the sexes.
In his eyes, Qi Yu was hardly different from a child.
Without hesitation, Qi Yu ran to the table, opened the food box, and found some rather cold and hard rice but also some braised pork and a few side dishes.
“Conditions in the mountains are harsh, not comparable to the Prince Qiu Residence, but please make do with these, Your Highness,” Song Ling said as he served her rice, his tone gentle.
Qi Yu didn’t mind at all and began eating heartily.
Watching her adapt and be content, Song Ling felt she was much stronger than the despairing Miss Gu from yesterday.
After eating her fill, Song Ling was about to leave with the food box when Qi Yu suddenly grabbed him.
Song Ling turned his head, looking at her somewhat puzzled.
Qi Yu then whispered something into his ear.
Song Ling’s pupils contracted, and he visibly panicked.
Qi Yu had just asked, “Do you want to leave this place?”
Facing her clear gaze, Song Ling had a moment where he almost felt like he had been seen through.
Even after returning to his room, his mind hadn’t calmed down.
From the day he entered Heifeng Village, he wanted to leave, but not to mention how to leave, where could he go after leaving?
Sitting quietly by the bed for a while, Song Ling’s mind kept revolving around Qi Yu’s question.
His thoughts were so complex that he had forgotten to think how a fool could ask such a question.
While he was pondering with furrowed brows, the entire village fell into a crisis.
Li Mingjue, leading his men, broke through the gates of Heifeng Village, killing their way in with Cailin and over a thousand soldiers.
Upon hearing the news, Heifeng quickly rallied the brothers in the village to battle.
Halfway there, he suddenly remembered something and turned to the room where Qi Yu was detained.
He could not believe that Prince Qiu could just watch the Princess die by his hand!
But, he realized, when he arrived, that the two people who had been guarding the door had long since fainted on the ground, and the room was already empty.
“Idiots!” Heifeng angrily grabbed the two who had been sedated and threw them out.
“Boss, don’t worry, the Princess won’t get away!” Fei Ying reminded from the side.
Heifeng thought about it and indeed it was so.
This Heifeng Village was full of traps, where could a fool escape to?
“You take some men and search, turn over the entire mountaintop if you have to, but find her!”
“Yes!” Fei Ying took the order and hurried away with his men.
Heifeng, with the remaining men, went to face the battle and soon encountered Cailin halfway there.
Cailin, having dealt with Prince Qiu’s pressure all afternoon, was already seething with rage, and upon seeing the prime culprit, he charged with his sword drawn.
Although Heifeng was highly skilled in martial arts, under Cailin’s relentless attack, he was somewhat unable to cope.
He could only fight while retreating, trying to lure him toward the traps.
Elsewhere, Qi Yu had known that Li Mingjue had arrived the moment she heard the sounds of fighting.
To avoid being taken as a hostage by Heifeng, she decisively used sedatives to knock out the people outside the door and then escaped.
Before leaving, she had run into Song Ling, who was about to venture out to investigate the noise.
“You…” Song Ling wanted to ask how she had escaped.
But Qi Yu quickly grabbed his arm and dragged him run towards the back of the mountain.
While running, she explained, “Prince Qiu’s men have arrived, you’ll be killed if you stay here.”
Song Ling’s mind went blank, his ears filled with the sounds of clashing swords.
He was not afraid to die, but at that moment, a desire to live courageously emerged from deep within.

He knew Qi Yu was right, staying would mean waiting for death.
And if they could just find that small path behind the mountain, they could escape together.
“There they are!” Someone in the chaotic crowd spotted Qi Yu’s figure and shouted loudly.
Fei Ying narrowed his eyes and led his men in pursuit.
“Catch them!”
Qi Yu and Song Ling ran to the back of the mountain, only to be stopped by Fei Ying and a group of bandits wielding torches.
“Where does the Princess think she’s running?” Fei Ying spoke with a sinister tone.
Song Ling stepped forward to protect her.
No matter what, he couldn’t just watch Qi Yu be captured.
Seeing this, Fei Ying scoffed coldly, “Traitor!”
Song Ling’s expression froze, but he did not lower his arms from protecting Qi Yu.
Fei Ying raised his hand, leading the group behind him with knives, slowly closing in, his eyes mocking these two who were out of their depth.
Behind them was a sheer cliff, and he wanted to see where they thought they could run.
