Top Student at Their Peak-Chapter 181 - 100 Those Genius Rivals and the Unpredictable Youth_4
Chapter 181: Chapter 100 Those Genius Rivals and the Unpredictable Youth_4
He’s never seen such an audacious student before.
Come to think of it, the graduate students at Yujiang University weren’t entirely useless after all.
He was standing outside the office building greeting the new students, who all seemed grateful, yet Qiao Yu expected his mentor to personally pick him up at the station.
"Hehe, Director Xue, don’t be mad. I just thought it was a bit wasteful for the car to come empty all the way to the station..."
Qiao Yu said awkwardly, and before even a minute passed, he suddenly added, "Mr. Xue, do you think that professor they invited this time was specifically for me based on my situation? Otherwise, why would it be such a coincidence, just right for me?"
Xue Song was momentarily stunned, did not answer, and directly started the car.
The ride was silent because Xue Song couldn’t be bothered with Qiao Yu. Although his question, upon further thinking, made some sense, Xue Song felt it shouldn’t be the case!
It wasn’t until the car reached Huqing East Road that Qiao Yu saw Yanbei University’s southeast gate through the car window: "Huh, Yanbei University’s gate isn’t that big, but it looks quite classical?"
"That’s for pedestrians, not vehicles. How big do you want it to be?!"
"Oh! Wow, is Huaqing University really just opposite? Are they really that close to each other? Just one street apart? I thought saying ’a street apart’ online was just a metaphor."
"Yes, that’s how close they are. Starting last year, both sides have been working on a system for identity verification interoperability. Once your student ID is processed, you can go across with just your student ID."
"Tsk tsk tsk, aren’t they getting a great deal then? Sure enough, Huaqing University is the closest university to the future’s greatest university in the world, physically the closest, just a street away." Qiao Yu said with genuine admiration.
"Did you just say the world’s greatest university?" Xue Song couldn’t help but glance at Qiao Yu through the car’s rearview mirror.
"Yanbei University has taken both of us under its wing, and with Director Tian, that insightful figure watching over us, it will be hard for Yanbei University not to become the world’s greatest university in the future. Don’t you think so, Mr. Xue?"
The statement was so full of holes that Xue Song didn’t know how to counter it. The term "Hidden Dragon, Young Phoenix" inevitably popped into his head.
After a long silence, he finally said, "Qiao Yu..."
Qiao Yu, full of ambition, immediately responded, "What is it, Mr. Xue."
"If you talk like that outside in the future, I can’t control you, but before your grand dreams are realized, never tell others that I’m your mentor at Yanbei University."
This time it was Qiao Yu’s turn to feel dejected.
No wonder he’s a math mentor, setting conditions so meticulously, meaning only after those are realized can he claim a mentorship.
Indeed, mathematicians aren’t ones to incur losses.
"Don’t worry, Mr. Xue, one day the whole world will know you as my mentor."
...
Upon arriving at Yanbei University’s campus, Xue Song parked the car and first settled Qiao Yu in.
Because Qiao Yu was not a formal student yet, it was inconvenient to arrange dorm housing, so Director Tian simply placed Qiao Yu in a more than twenty-square-meter room on the first floor at the far east of a building in the research center’s corner.
There was a bed inside for resting, and a desk positioned by the window outside that fully met Qiao Yu’s requirements for an independent study room. Air-conditioning, WiFi, and a water dispenser were all available. The only issue was the room lacked private bathroom facilities.
"For morning wash-ups, use the restroom in the building. It’s not far, but remember, even if you’re just going to wash up, dress neatly before going out. For showers, there’s a public bathhouse in the dormitory area; I’ll take you to see it later. This semester, since your student registration hasn’t been transferred here, this setup is temporary. It’ll be back to normal dorm arrangements next semester."
Xue Song explained while helping Qiao Yu with his luggage.
He didn’t want to act like a babysitter, but there was no choice. Tian Yan entrusted all matters concerning Qiao Yu to him, and the kid wasn’t formally here to report as a student yet.
Moreover, since the joint training plan hadn’t been officially finalized, his doctoral students hadn’t reported at Yanbei University yet, so he had to handle these trivial tasks personally.
"It’s alright, the environment is quite nice already. By the way, does this mean after formally enrolling next semester, this will still be my independent study room?" Qiao Yu asked.
If so, that would be truly NICE.
After all, at Railway First Middle School, it was just a single room; coming to Yanbei University was a direct upgrade to a one-bedroom suite, evidence of his hard work.
Xue Song glanced at Qiao Yu and answered, "That depends on whether your progress during this period is deserving enough for an independent study room."
"Got it! But should there be a quantitative standard for this progress? Like..."
"No ’like.’ Open the first drawer of the study desk."
"Okay." Qiao Yu obediently opened the drawer, inside which lay a quietly resting English magazine.
"A sample issue of the Journal of Number Theory sent to you, because I provided this address, it was mailed directly to me. I kept a copy for you. Your paper is on page 27," Xue Song said.
"Hey, why isn’t my paper on the cover?" Qiao Yu complained in dissatisfaction, as the cover featured someone he didn’t recognize, and below was another paper’s title, not his own.
"Heh... Did you solve some groundbreaking problem? A cover paper! Since you put it that way, on behalf of Director Tian, I’ll promise you, if you can complete a cover paper this semester, and its journal ranking isn’t lower than the Journal of Number Theory, this study room will still be yours after school starts!"
