Chapter 123: Chapter 123:Antique Excursion [4]

Zeke and I briefly exchanged nods as I walked past the Imperial students, and he added while I passed by.

"What happened to not paying attention and not caring about your grades?"

Turning back with a grin, I replied, halting momentarily.

"Who said this has anything to do with grades?"

"Oh really? Seems to me like you do actually care about grades. I never see you outside after classes...you probably study all day, don’t you?"

"Alright, bud? Have fun climbing that summit for me, will you, then? Professor Donna can go die if she thinks I’m climbing in this weather."

Returning my gin, Zeke waved at me through the glass elevator as I entered and stood the farthest away I could from Charlotte.

Again, Zeke was completely and utterly on Liam’s side.

And, I had just had a full-fledged conversation with him as if we were best friends.

A couple of moments, later, Nico entered, standing aginst the back wall, in between Charlotte, who was in the left corner, and me in the right corner.

Finally, Mira and Evangel entered the elevator after discussing for what seemed like ages with Scarlett.

They both stood in front of the doors, in front of Nico, gazing upward at the light-blue sky.

As the glass door slammed shut, the president suddenly placed his mouth right before the window and yelled through the glass,

"PULL THE LEVER!"

"...?"

What lever?

At that moment, Charlotte suddenly stretched her hand upward to the ceiling of the elevator, and following her hand, I spotted a small lever hanging.

However, being far too short, her hand couldn’t reach the lever, so before she had to get on her tippy-toes, I grabbed the lever and pulled it downward.

*BAM*

Instantly, the entire ground vibrated like a phone upon receiving a message, and everyone fell backward.

Then, without even giving us a moment to rest, the elevator suddenly shot up into the air like a rocket, sending everyone into the air.

Thankfully, we were all Imperial students, so all of us caught our balance before we could fall down.

Gazing downward at the field of students below, I watched as their figures got smaller and smaller until they were just specs that I could mistake for dust.

However, at that moment, one of those specs began jumping up and down madly.

Sighing, I slightly peeled the bandage of my right eye, revealing it for an open, and looked ddonward, now able to clearly see despite the distance.

Jumping up and down, trying to catch my attention, Mira’s eyes followed the elevator as she dramatically mouthed.

"DON’T LEAVE ME!"

Her sarcastic voice suddenly echoed through my head, forcing me to let out a dry cough to hide a fit of laughter.

As I covered my right eye once again, a voice sounded from beside me.

"Wow...after being stuck on that island for so long...this view is amazing."

It was?

Turning around to face the mountain, I gazed up as we passed through countless clouds at the rocky and somewhat groomed paths of the mountain.

The mountain range was a beautiful sight...but it was hard to enjoy it considered I was forcing myself to go on this trip.

It was like when your parents made you try a piece of food you refused to taste, and you actually ended up liking.

You didn’t want to admit it tasted good and prove your parents right, but you still wanted to eat the food.

Shifting my gaze away from the mountain, I looked downward through the glass floor of that elevator, which made it look as if we were floating in the sky.

Suddenly, after a couple of silent seconds, Charlotte nodded her head and responded to Nico.

"If this is how it looks now...imagine the view from the summit."

As Evangel silently nodded her head in approval, Mira suddenly pointed at the mountain through the window behind us and exclaimed.

"Oh, look, there’s an artifact site!"

A large crater-sized hole in the mountain, alongside a massive tower that resembled a cellphone tower on Earth, flashed by as we continued ascending.

Turning around too slow to notice the site, Charlotte remarked while facing Mira.

"You know, you have pretty good eyes."

Clearly enjoying the praise, she tilted her head and answered.

"That’s my specialty."

Charlotte suddenly asked, looking past Mira and at the silent Evangel.

"You too, Evangel. Your flying and aeronautical skills were amazing during the practical exam. I honestly thought you were a bird at first!"

Nodding her head, Evangel paused before making eye contact with Charlotte and responding in her emotionless tone.

"Your team is the only reason I won. If they hadn’t distracted Liam, it would have been over for me with the beam."

Interjecting, Nico also added.

"Your flying skills were the talk of the Worldly class during my combat classes. Perhaps...we can see them in person, today?"

As the conversation between the three of them progressed, I became lost in thought, pretenidng to look out the window to my right and ignoring them.

Originally, Evangel had entered the Imperial class after the first semester, when the throne inheritor had already been decided on, Liam.

But...right now, she seemed to be leaning towards supporting the princess.

How would this change the selection of the successor?

Could Charlotte win with the protagonist’s help?

Snapping me out of my thoughts, a large single tree appeared on the edge of one of the mountain’s cliffs.

Instantly, I partially uncovered my right eye and examined the mountain.

The tree was an indicator.

In this area, the first monster outbreak of the night would occur.

There were no craters or towers around, though...this wasn’t an excavation site or, in other words, a place where a lost and dormant dungeon was located.

Where did the first demonic beasts come from, then?

The dungeons with excavation spots around them were like dormant volcanoes, currently inactive but ready to open at any time.
