Chapter 32: Chapter 32:Academy Travels [5]
Sighing, I looked away and saw Liana in the distance, holding two plates of what seemed to be colored balls.
However, as she approached us and I got a clearer look at the food, I immediately recognized it.
"Mochi?"
Reaching the two of us, Liana handed us a plate before looking us expectantly, as if waiting to see our reaction.
"It’s my hometown special!"
Immediately, I grabbed one of the pink-colored balls and raised it to my mouth, eagerly taking a bit of it.
As the vanilla ice cream inside the treat leaked out, accompanying the rough pink skin of the mochi, my tastebuds practically jumped for joy.
Beside me, Evangel picked up a piece of strawberry mochi and raised it to her head, examining it as if it were a specimen.
As she turned her head and glanced at me, I ate the last of my piece before shrugging my shoulders.
While Evangel decided whether or not to eat it, Liana curiously questioned.
"How was it?"
Keeping my expression neutral, I simply nodded my head and replied.
"Decent."
Hearing my response, Liana looked visibly annoyed, so she shifted her gaze to Evangal, who still hadn’t made a decision yet.
Evangel seemed to be in a world of her own as she ignored both my and Liana’s staring while intently focusing on the mochi in front of her.
At that moment, a sudden sound sounded from the loudspeakers above, echoing throughout the entire marketplace despite the chaos.
"ATTENTION!"
"The fireworks show will begin in ten minutes."
"ATTENTION!"
"The fireworks show will begin in ten minutes.’
For that moment, the entire marketplace stayed silent, and no sound reverberated throughout the streets.
Then, in the next second, absolute chaos began.
People began rushing forward and pushing through others, attempting to secure a good spot near the fireworks.
Seeing Evangel and Liana standing still as if the fireworks show didn’t matter, I immediately sighed and asked.
"Can we at least try to get a decent spot?" freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
While Evangel stayed silent and continued staring at the mochi in her hands, Liana shrugged her shoulders and replied.
"I’ve already seen the show far too many times, but if you want me to show you one, I can."
I briefly considered just going off by myself, but without Liana leading me, I doubted I’d find a decent spot.
And...Liana wouldn’t leave until Evangel was done.
Not wasting another moment, I raised my hand and grabbed the piece of mochi from Evangel.
Then, without any hesitation, I stuffed it into her mouth and turned to face Liana.
"Ready?"
Smirking, Liana glanced at me for a second before nodding her head and entering the crowd of people rushing forward.
As I was about to run after her, I glanced back, and Evangel was simply standing still with the mochi half in and half out of her mouth.
Did she forget how to chew?
After trying to signal and gesture for her to follow for a couple of seconds, I gave up and carefully grabbed Evangel’s arm sleeve.
She had changed out of the dirty clothes she had worn while facing the troll and was now wearing a new garment.
With light-blue jeans, a black undershirt, and a white blazer, Evangel had her hair lying messily on her forehead.
As the two of us stood still, my hand on her sleeve of her blazer, I waited for any reaction, any at all, but she simply stood still.
Coughing awkwardly, I said.
"We have to go or we’ll miss the fireworks show."
After a couple of moments, Evangel spoke...at least tried to.
The mochi was still sticking out of her mouth as she hadn’t bothered to chew, so all I heard was a bunch of muffled nonsense.
It sounded like a baby trying to speak.
Sighing, I pointed at the mochi in her mouth and asked.
"You can chew first."
Then, as if she had just realized that she had a piece of mochi in her mouth, Evangel opened her mouth further and sucked the mochi up like a vacuum cleaner.
Her cheeks expanded, making her look like a hamster, and after a couple of seconds, she was back to usual.
"..."
The ice cream inside the mochi was freezing cold and even took me a couple of minutes to diguest fully, so I was shocked to see her devour it in one bite.
...had she been holding the mochi in her mouth because she was waiting for the ice cream to heat up?
Shifting my gaze upward, I saw Evangel expectantly staring at me, showing no reaction to the tasty flavor of the mochi.
Shaking my head, I simply said.
"Let’s go."
Turning backward, I attempted to find Liana, but she had long disappeared into the crowd of thousands within the marketplace.
At that moment, I suddenly felt a soft yet noticeable pressure under my two feet, and in the next second, I was levitating.
As my body began to slowly float into the air and drift above the crowd, I confusedly looked up and saw Evangel flying above me.
With two wind currents under each of her feet, she carried the two of us into the air until we were far above the marketplace.
All the thousands of people below me looked like ants, and from up here, I could see the entire marketplace.
Turning downward and facing me, Evangel nonchalantly said.
"Hold on tight."
In the next second, the two of us blasted forward, and within seconds, a large lake came into view.
Dazzling under the half-crescent moon and the stars above, the lake seemed to stretch on for ages, not quite as large as the plain outside of town.
As I dangled below Evangel, holding tightly onto her sleeve, I looked down and tried to find Liana, but it was no use.
Pointing at the empty area near the lake, where the fireworks show would take place, I muttered.
"We can land there."
Turning my head up to make sure Evangel heard me, I was about to repeat myself, when my mouth suddenly froze.
Overlapping with the half crescent moon, Evangel’s white hair blew back from the wind, and at that moment, she looked down at me as well.
