Chapter 108: Before War

Ren’s House, Front Yard.

Scarlett was currently watering the flowers. She didn’t know what had happened to Ren because she went straight to his house after work.

’I will cook his favorite meal after this.’

A soft smile spread across her face as she watered the flowers because she suddenly remembered their house in the illusion world.

’Hmm? Sister Lexie and Luna?’

She stopped watering the flowers when she caught sight of them.

"Sister Lexie, what’s wrong?" Scarlett asked when she saw Lexie’s worried expression.

Before Lexie could answer her question, Luna said, "Auntie Scarlett, big brother went missing."

"What?!" Scarlett dropped the watering can.

"Sister Scarlett, let’s go to the living room first." Lexie said, "I will explain everything there."

"Alright." Scarlett responded.

After they sat on the couch, Lexie began telling everything.

She said they went to the outskirts earlier.

When magical beasts suddenly appeared and attacked the citizens, Ren left to help them.

However, he hadn’t returned until now.

She had asked all the city guards about his whereabouts, but none of them knew where he was.

"Sister Scarlett, try contacting him using the communication token. Maybe he is still around here." Lexie knew about the communication token because he showed it to them several days ago.

She was also the one who told Scarlett to take it because, from her point of view, it was better for her to hold the token.

"Alright." Scarlett retrieved the communication token from her space ring.

’Ren, please be safe.’

He was half of her soul, so she didn’t want anything bad to happen to him.

"Scarlett, I’m fine." Ren had guessed this before, so he was not surprised when Scarlett contacted him with a communication token.

Scarlett and the others were relieved when they saw him.

"Big brother, where are you?" Luna asked as she looked at his image above the token.

"I’m in the forest now, but I don’t know where I am." Ren responded.

"Ren, what happened earlier?" Lexie inquired.

"It’s like this..." Ren told them everything.

"What?!" Lexie and Scarlett said in surprise.

"Scarlett, I think it’s better for you to tell your people not to go to the outskirts for now." Ren told her that Beldroth and his subordinates wanted to kill the citizens.

"I can’t do that because their fields and farms are on the outskirts." Scarlett replied, "I will increase the number of people patrolling and send strong people every day to protect them."

"That’s a good idea." Ren responded. "Okay. I will call you back once I know where I am."

"Un." Scarlett nodded her head.

After the communication was cut off, Lexie let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god, he is fine."

As they were chatting, Ren tried to find directions to the nearest city.

"Which direction should I take?" Ren asked as he touched his chin.

’Should I go to the West?’

He turned his head to the North.

’But my instincts told me to go North. Should I go to the North instead?’

He could not make up his mind, so he kept shifting his gaze between North and West.

[Oh, no! We will die in the forest.]

His system said this because Ren was bad with directions.

’Hey, system. Can’t you believe in me a little more?’

The corner of his lips twitched.

[The System trusts the Host when it comes to fighting, but not in this case.]

"I’m different than the past me." He stated.

[Host, the last time you said that, we ended up getting lost. Luckily, we had Liam at that time.]

Ren could not say anything about it because what his system said was the truth.

[Host, how about you use the magic that Liam used that time? Maybe we can leave this forest later.]

"No." Ren refused instantly. "My method of finding the city is much better, so don’t worry. I’m different from my old self."

[The system suddenly feels Déjà vu after hearing Host’s words.]

"You will be surprised later." Icy feathers burst from his back, propelling him into the sky.

The corner of his lips twitched when he skimmed his surroundings because all he saw were trees and mountains.

’I will fly higher.’

His hair danced wildly as he flew higher.

’Are you for real?’

He was high in the sky, yet what he saw was the same.

Mountains and trees!

[Host, let’s use Liam’s magic. Who knows? Maybe the goddess of luck is on our side.]

"I still have one more way to find the nearest city." Right after his voice stopped, four clones appeared before him. "You go West. You go North. You go East, and you go South."

He continued, "Come back to me if you find a city. If you don’t find one by morning, just melt into water."

"Alright." His clones responded in unison.

After his clones left, Ren looked for a cave.

Time went by quickly, and without realizing it, it had been two days since Ren was teleported to an unknown place.

At this moment, he was eating in a luxurious restaurant.

Ten bandits tried to rob him yesterday, so he beat them up and forced them to give him directions to the nearest city, saying he would kill them if they refused or dared to lie.

’I will go to the teleportation gate after this.’

Scarlett and Lexie said he could teleport to Herora City from there, so he would leave after he was full because he missed them.

As Ren was eating happily, Rathal was telling Julzreon and the other Generals information about the strength of Nightshire City.

He pretended to be a city guard two days ago, so he finally managed to complete his mission.

"The population of Nightshire City is two hundred thousand people. Among them, eighty thousand are the city guards." Rathal began telling them the strength of Nightshire City in detail.

He said most of the city guards were Elite rank warriors and 2-star mages. Only the high-ranking soldiers were at Master rank or 3-star.

"If we add in the power of the four big families, their number will be eighty-four thousand and six hundred awakeners." Rathal uttered.

"How many Master rank warriors and 3-star mages do they have?" Laiex threw a question at Rathal.

"They have four 3-star mages and eight Master rank warriors." Rathal responded.

"Do they have any hidden guardian at Grandmaster or 4-star rank?" Julzreon did not attack Nightshire City immediately because he wanted to know whether they had strong hidden guardians or not.

"No, young lord." Rathal responded.

"Are you for real? Haha." Axilya laughed loudly.

Julzreon had one hundred and twenty thousand subordinates.

Even though most of them were only at 1-star, but they had seventy 3-star magical beasts.

Based on this alone, it should not be difficult for them to conquer Nightshire City since the number of strong people they had far outnumbered them.

"General Rathal, you can go back now. We will prepare for the war tomorrow." Nightshire City had no hidden guardians, so Julzreon would attack them soon.

"Understood, young lord." Rathal responded.

Shortly after that, the meeting was over.

The moon set and the sun rose.

The following day, at 07:00 am, Julzreon ordered his subordinates to go to Nightshire City.

Some of them used the teleportation formation while the rest walked. There were too many of them, so Julzreon decided that half of them should walk.

"General Laiex, go to the Framingburns forest through teleportation formation and secure the area." Julzreon uttered.

"Understood, young lord." Laiex then headed to the teleportation formation with his subordinates.

At the same time, five people were checking Framingburns forest. They all wore armor and came from the same city, Nightshire City.

Their names were Zayne Dodson, Lewis Fletcher, Alice Collins, Leo Atkinson and Devan Kinney.

Zayne was an Elite rank warrior, and he was a second lieutenant.

Like Zayne, Lewis was also an Elite rank warrior.

However, his military rank was higher because he was a first lieutenant.

Alice was a Master rank warrior, and she was a captain.

Leo was also Master rank warrior, but his military rank was higher, a Major.

As for Devan Kinney, his military rank was Lieutenant Colonel, and he was also a Master rank warrior.

The group of soldiers inspected the area as they were selecting a good place for their subordinates to train.

It would be the newcomers’ first fight against magical beasts, so they chose the place carefully.

"I think this place is good." Zayne spoke.

"I agree." Lewis nodded his head.

Alice touched her chin and said, "Colonel, I suddenly have a good idea. How about we lure a 2-star magical beast later?"

Black lines formed on Leo’s forehead.

’She is as cruel as usual!’

Their newcomers were only at 1-star and Apprentice rank, so from his point of view, her idea was really bad.

"Captain Alice, they have never faced a magical beast before. Isn’t it too cruel to force them to fight a 2-star magical beast on their first fight?" Devan refused her idea immediately because he did not want something bad to happen to their newcomers.

"But with this, they will learn how to fight faster." Alice responded.

"No." Devan refused again. "Alright. Let’s go back to the camp now."

As they were on their way to the camp, they accidentally overheard a conversation between a 3-star Lynx and a 3-star puma.

They didn’t attack them immediately; instead, they hid behind trees because they were curious about their conversation.

"Hey, did you know that many magical beasts appeared in the northern region?" Lynx inquired.

"I know." puma answered. "I heard they are subordinates of a dragon and are going to attack Nightshire City. I don’t know if this rumor is true or not."

"That’s what I heard too." Lynx answered.

Devan and the others were shocked.

’What?! They’re planning to attack our city?!’
