Wayfarer-Chapter 1021: Reunion with His Parents
Chapter 1021: Reunion with His Parents
The giant nine-colored tree continued to digest the white-furred monsters' carcasses as it remitted their energy to Xiao Nanfeng. Among that energy was a rather mysterious white swirl of power.
"It carries the aura of the Superior's moon—no, it's even colder and more bone-chilling," Xiao Nanfeng muttered with a frown.
He carefully sensed that energy again and confirmed that it was present in every white-furred creature. The giant nine-colored tree seemed to reject this energy. Rather than absorb it itself, it merely refined it and passed it onto him.
"Could this be the essence of the Superior's spiritual power? It's an incredible treasure." Xiao Nanfeng's eyes lit up.
Even though he recognized its value, he didn't immediately absorb it outright. Out of caution, he stored it in his world of the heart pending further research.
Meanwhile, he continued his slaughter. More and more of the white-furred monsters ended up in his world of the heart. However, as even more of them surged toward him, he found it increasingly difficult to fend them off. Still, thanks to the energy that his nine-colored tree provided him, he was able to endure.
With a loud boom, he struck out with his fist, sending a group of white-furred monsters flying like scattered flowers. Just as he was about to press his advantage, his expression suddenly changed.
Father? Mother?
Before him stood a male and a female white-furred monster. Though they didn't look quite like his parents, he recognized them instantly—Xiao Hongye, his father, and Tan Xianzhi, his mother.
Memories from the past flooded his mind.
"Come, let your father teach you how to pursue girls. This technique is called the 'Gentle Palm.' The first time your mother and I fought, she lost to this move. That's how I won her over."
"Bah! How shameless you are! You're always teaching Nanfeng nonsense. Nanfeng, don't listen to your father. I'll teach you something for self-defense—the Crane's Thorn. When facing a stronger opponent, you can use it as a sneak attack. Your father fell for it back then. If I hadn't taken pity on him, he would have been long gone. What 'Gentle Palm'? Hah!"
"Nanfeng, your mother and I are going on a trip. We'll be back soon. When we return, we'll bring you a wife."
"Nanfeng, wait for us at home. When we come back, we'll bring you the best toys."
Scenes from the past flashed through his mind.
His heart trembled. Though many years had passed, he could never forget the Gentle Palm and the Crane's Thorn—techniques his parents had created and passed down only to him. They were more or less joke techniques, ones that no else in the world knew about.
And yet the two white-furred monsters before him were using those exact moves. Although their appearances had been altered, there were still traces of their old features. More importantly, their eyes were different from those of the other white-furred monsters. The primordial altar had told him earlier that his parents were in this realm, too. Now, he had confirmed it for himself.
His nose stung. He almost cried out, "Father! Mother!" But then he saw the two silver moons hovering above their heads, and his pupils contracted. He forced himself to hold back.
It wasn't time for a reunion just yet. If the Superior discovered the identity of his parents, he would surely use them as leverage against him.
Though his parents were right in front of him, he could not acknowledge them. Worse still, given the silver moon's coercion, they were forced to attack him.
Xiao Nanfeng's mind was in turmoil. He quickly turned toward the other white-furred monsters, smashing one apart while deliberately allowing another group to strike him.
He wasn't in a hurry to leave. He continued to engage the white-furred monsters for some time before deliberately being "injured."
"Xiao Nanfeng's exhausted! Surround him and don't let him escape!" one of the silver moons exclaimed in excitement.
Amidst the chaos, Xiao Nanfeng endured several more "heavy blows" before breaking out of the encirclement and fleeing.
"Don't let him get away. Chase after him, now!" the silver moon shouted.
Countless white-furred monsters pursued him.
Xiao Nanfeng had no intention of fighting further. He swiftly evaded the white-furred monsters and dove into the sea several times before finally shaking all of them off.
In a hidden underwater trench, he forced himself to calm down. Even so, he couldn't suppress his emotions.
He laughed wildly, shocked and excited beyond belief.
He had found his parents! Not only that, he had realized how careful his parents had been before entering the hidden realm. They had changed their appearances to some extent.
It was easy for cultivators to do so, but nearly impossible to alter their aura and spiritual power.
Back when the Superior had been with Xiao Nanfeng, he had seen portraits of Xiao Hongye and Tan Xianzhi, but he didn't know what their auras were like. If not for their disguises, his parents might well have been discovered by the Superior.
"Father, Mother, thank goodness!" Xiao Nanfeng laughed again in relief.
His parents were still alive—that was all that mattered. They had intentionally used the Gentle Palm and Crane's Thorn against him, signaling to him that they were aware of their circumstances and were trying to send him a message.
Only now did he suddenly realize why there had been a copy of Body of Yin in his family residence. Perhaps his parents had left it behind. They must have cultivated this technique themselves.
He didn't despair about their current predicament. After all, he had successfully escaped the Superior's control, so he could do so for his parents as well.
After some time, he finally suppressed his excitement and began to plan. How could he communicate with his parents without rousing the Superior's attention? And how could he free them?
After half a day of contemplation, he came up with the seed of an idea: to argue with the Superior. Through their argument, he would reveal information about the outside world for all the white-furred monsters to hear. His parents would surely understand his intentions.
With a whoosh, he emerged from the sea.
Soon, a massive number of white-furred monsters found him again.
"You've fully recuperated after half a day? It seems that you really are still hiding some secret from me, aren't you? You've been deceiving me all these years!" a silver moon snarled.
"Do you really think these white-furred monsters can stop me? You underestimate me. Don't worry. I'll kill every last one of them, then find your main body and tear you out by the roots!" Xiao Nanfeng declared.
"Insolent fool! Kill him!" the silver moon roared.
"Die!" Countless white-furred monsters charged forward, and Xiao Nanfeng's eyes likewise turned icy as he charged into battle.
This time, the Superior changed his strategy. He sacrificed some white-furred monsters to exhaust Xiao Nanfeng, who easily dealt with their attacks.
Meanwhile, he gathered a larger group of white-furred monsters in the distance to await reinforcements. This time, the Superior intended to trap him for good.
Xiao Nanfeng continued to shout at the silver moon, deliberately revealing how he had severed his connection with them and other crucial details. At the same time, he killed a large group of white-furred monsters sent his way.
When he saw his parents being forced forward, he immediately fled.
"Stop him! He's exhausted again! Don't let him escape!" the Superior roared.
White-furred monsters surged toward him from all directions, sealing off every possible escape route. Even the sea had been cordoned off.
Xiao Nanfeng's candleflame powers allowed him to make a small spatial hop, but he was quickly surrounded again. He punched the white-furred monsters away before using his candleflame powers again, several times in quick succession, before he was able to break out of the encirclement.
"Shouldn't you have been exhausted? How were you able to use your candleflame powers so many times in a row?!" the Superior exclaimed.
By then, however, Xiao Nanfeng had fled. The white-furred monsters chased after him, but lost his trail by the sea.
"No—Xiao Nanfeng was never exhausted to begin with! He must have had some secret technique for absorbing energy from the carcasses of these white-furred monsters!" the Superior suddenly concluded.
All the white-furred monsters in the vicinity gathered together to await the Superior's orders, but the silver moons were silent as they fell into deep contemplation. Finally, their eyes gleamed with killing intent.
"You might be sly and cunning, Xiao Nanfeng, but you won't be able to escape," a silver moon declared. It turned toward a pack of white-furred monsters. "You lot, step forward!"
The silver moons all sent a beam of white light at the pack of white-furred monsters. They hesitantly flew forward with puzzled expressions.
The silver moons eyed them coldly. "Earlier, when I ordered you to encircle and kill Xiao Nanfeng, you deliberately held back and avoided fighting whenever possible. Were you afraid that he would kill you?"
"We..." The white-furred monsters blanched.
"If you disregard my orders, what reason do I have for keeping you alive? Die!" the Superior roared.
"No!" the white-furred monsters cried out in horror.
With a thunderous boom, their heads suddenly exploded, sending blood splattering in all directions. The Superior seemed to have used some secret technique to execute them all.
The remaining white-furred monsters shuddered in fear.
"As for those of you who charged at Xiao Nanfeng bravely earlier, you may enjoy the divine power within their carcasses. I've dispelled the curse on your bodies. You can absorb that power at will," the Superior continued.
He sent a few beams of light shining down on another group of white-furred monsters. Though they were injured, they had bravely charged toward Xiao Nanfeng. Excited and eager, they rushed forward to devour the white-furred monsters that had been killed.
A surge of aura emanated from their bodies, as if their cultivation had received a big boost.
Many white-furred monsters in the vicinity eyed the chosen ones enviously.
"From now on, I'll allow you to devour more white-furred monsters and gain more divine power. You'll grow stronger and stronger. Any of the rest who dare refuse my commands will become food for you," the Superior declared.
"Understood!" the chosen white-furred monsters cried out in excitement.

"Continue searching for Xiao Nanfeng," the Superior commanded.
"Understood!"
The white-furred monsters quickly split up and began to roam.
