Who Said A Necromancer Can't Be A Priest?-Chapter 102: New Normal
After the failed execution attempt, things weren't the same in Runedral. Three factions had formed within the empire.
First were the traditional fools who wanted to follow old laws to the tee. To them, it didn't matter what Aaran had done. They didn't care about the goddess who supported him or the divine power he used. He was a necromancer, and that was all they could see and wanted him dead.
Second were the temple loyalists. Surprisingly, these people, who were the high priest's blind followers, were on Aaran's side. All because he had a goddess's support. That proved his credibility over anything Trantua or the temples could say.
And last were those who just didn't care about it. These were practical people who worried about putting food on their table and wasteful taxes more than anything else. For them, every topic was reduced into two categories, if it could help them or not.
Since Aaran's failed execution didn't affect them in any form, they didn't care about his powers either.
Consequently, the truth about Aurelia's invasion was also publicized.
Every party that had taken part in it suffered great losses. Trantua, to protect his image, imposed heavy sanctions on those families who not only lose a good chunk of their military but also lost face.
But that wasn't enough.
People had grown displeased with Trantua's failure to protect Aurelia in time. It didn't take long for them to deduce that the emperor must have played a hand in the plan as well, otherwise the Magic tower wouldn't get involved in this mess.
However, Leon faced the brunt of the criticism. While some defended his action during the execution, they were far few compared to those who actively criticized him.
Even though he was paralyzed from neck down, no one offered him any sympathy. Countless of his statues were broken down, and it was a miracle people didn't overthrow him.
Vericia had to step down as the leader of the Magic Tower, and the position was taken over by Seraphina.
Surprisingly, the only people who openly opposed Aaran were his own parents. They didn't want to be associated with a necromancer and officially disowned him. It wasn't difficult, considering Aaran had given them the documents to do it.
This way, Aurelia won over both major factions. Those who opposed Aaran were happy he was facing some consequences for his action, while those who supported him knew the underlying meaning of the sudden announcement.
On the surface, things seemed to have calmed down, but Aaran knew it was far from over.

"They did what? Have they lost their minds?"
Seraphina lost her mind the moment Aran told them about the Saintess's warning.
"Let me at her," the goddess roared, rolling up her sleeves. "I'll curse a hundred generations of her lineage."
"Um… goddess, saintesses aren't allowed to, you know… do the forbidden thing?" Eleanor whispered.
"Then… hmph."
The goddess pouted and sat back down, her arms crossed. As a goddess with little divinity, she couldn't do much other than curse someone.
Sadly, the only curse she knew was regarding one's bloodline. Unfortunately, such curses held no meaning against someone who had no interest in continuing their lineage.
Meanwhile, Aaran was lost in his thoughts.
Despite the confidence he showed to the Saintess, he was clueless how to deal with her without inciting violence. With all his secrets out in the open, there weren't any secret tricks he could pull to fool his enemies, either.
I only won at Aurelia because they didn't expect someone like me to exist. I'm pretty sure they are already forming strategies to get rid of me.
"How can they threaten a virtue?"
Tired from pacing around, Seraphina sat next to Aaran. On cue, Eleanor rushed to his side as well, and so did the goddess.
"They can't do much either way," Aaran smiled. "They thought I'd back down if they threaten Aurelia. These fools never learn, do they?"
"What do you want to do next?" Eleanor asked.
"What can I do? I'll attend my classes."
"Are you for real?" Seraphina asked. She couldn't believe her ears. "They are planning to kill you and you want to attend the academy?"
Aaran laughed, flopping onto the bed, arms behind his head.
What else could he do? Despite the immediate threat, he had to worry about protecting the world as well. The invasion could happen at any moment. There was no time to waste on politics and petty threats.
"You'll go to Medibi," Eleanor said. "Sera would join the tower… what will I do?"
"You'll live with my parents," Aaran replied. "Along with the goddess."
"A goddess must walk beside her chosen priest!"

"Alright, I'll ask them to stop constructing your shrine in Aurelia then—"
"S-Shrine!? Why didn't you mention this earlier? I-I think you made the right decision, my wise priest. I shall follow your wishes this once."
Everyone laughed at the goddess's sudden change of heart.
The goddess and Eleanor were like a shield for Aurelia. With them there, neither the temples nor Trantua would dare attack Aurelia. If anything, they would protect the kingdom from any harm.
"You sound confident, but I don't think the Emperor would let Elenor leave the capital," Seraphina said.
Aaran smiled. He knew he won't but what will he do if Eleanor expressed her wishes publically?
Trantua's image before the commoners was already in shambles. If he dared to stop Eleanor from visiting her would-be in-laws, his image might take a turn for the worse. Trantua knew it. That's why he wasn't causing any problems for them, even though Aaran was staying in his palace.

The next day, everyone was leaving for their respective destinations.
Aaran went back to Medibi first, with Seraphina promising she would get there as soon as the matters settled down within the Tower.
Eleanor and the goddess returned to Aurelia under the guise of convincing Aaran's parents to not disown him. It was a convenient excuse for Eleanor to stay there for a longer duration.
But there was someone else also in line to use the magic portal.
A special admission to the Medibi academy.
