Chapter 43: $500M Market Cap

James decided to leave Patty alone, so that she can continue cooking without disturbance.

He intends to continue their discussion after they are done with lunch. Leaving the kitchen, James went to the living room and slouched into one of the sofa.

He looked at Leslie, who was engrossed in the TV show she was watching, and smiled.

"I thought you were already done with this series," he asked curiously.

"This is the last episode," she replied, without taking her eyes off the TV screen.

James saw that Leslie wasn’t too engrossed in what she was watching to pay him any attention and he decided to leave her alone.

He took out his phone from his pocket and he saw that he has some messages from Ralph. He quickly clicked on it and started reading.

A few seconds later, a bright smile painted James’ face as he immediately got up from his lazy position, and sat in an upright position.

The contents of Ralph messages was that the memecoin has hit $500M and he has contacted the CEXs, and has filled out the listing application forms for each CEXs, and he’s waiting for a reply from them.

He also said that he has created a website and relevant social media accounts for the project.

After he was done reading, james immediately texted Ralph back a, telling him to contact him if there’s anything he can help with — especially with funding.

Less than a minute after he sent the message to Ralph, he got a reply, telling him that he should be looking to spend between$300,000 to more than $1M for the listing.

James smiled when he saw this. To current him, spending $300,000 to $1M wasn’t that much of an issue. And the fact that it would help him to boost his wealth, makes it all the more easier for him.

With the smile still on his face, James texted Ralph back, telling him not to worry about the funding as he would take care of it.

The next moment, he got a reply from Ralph, asking him if he has learned the art of explanation as he has a lot of it to do later.

James smiled when he saw this and he replied with a laughing emoji.

He knew that Ralph was very curious about the source of his wealth and that was the reason why he sent the last message, but since he hasn’t asked directly, it meant that he doesn’t want to pry.

James smiled as he thought of the bags of surprises he still have in store. Though he doesn’t have any plan to tell Ralph about the system, he couldn’t help but wonder why his reaction would be if he got to know.

Needless to say, Ralph would be shell shocked, and James couldn’t help but laugh as he visualises Ralph’s facial expression.

James’ train of thought and his little fantasy was broken by Patty’s voice as she called him and Leslie, to come to the dining table for lunch.

"That was delicious. Thanks, Patty," James said, with a satisfied smile and an empty plate in front of him.

Leslie saw the smile on James’ face and smirked mischievously, and she turned to Leslie and said:

"Mom, why don’t I make dinner tonight? I promise that—"

She was allowed to finish as James cut her short aggressively.

"Don’t you dare!," James said, with a face pale from fear, as he nearly choked on the air he was breathing.

"I’m still recovering from the evil concoction you cooked the other day. I don’t want to die young." He glared at her.

Leslie smirked internally at James reaction, but on her face was an offended expression as she looked at Patty.

"Mom, James is being heartless to me. I know my food wasn’t as good as yours but it was that bad. Right?" She asked.

Patty, who was smiling at the kids’ antic, suddenly found herself caught between the two of them and with no idea on what to do.

Her gaze moved between James and Leslie with conflicted emotions. She wanted to support her daughter and say that her cooking wasn’t that bad, but the expression on James’ face made her rethink her decision. And besides, she doesn’t want to lie to Leslie.

Also, she wants to support James but she doesn’t want to hurt Leslie’s feeling, even though she knew that she was doing this to get a reaction from James.

Patty saw that she was caught between a rock and a hard place, and decided to do what she thought was best. She slowly stood up the dinning table, blew kisses at the two of them and rushed up to her room.

She definitely won’t allow them to make her into the villain. Not again!

James and Leslie looked, and bursted out in laughter. The way Patty ran up the stairs was very funny to them.

They didn’t expect her to react the way she did but they understand why she reacted like that.

This wasn’t the first time that something like this has happened and the first time it happened, Patty, who was trying to mediate things between them, was made out to be the villain.

James smiled as he stood up and was about to take care of the dirty dishes, but he was stopped by Leslie.

"I will handle it," she said, and slapped his hand away.

James saw this and smirked, as he flicked her forehead and bolted up to his room.

"James!" Leslie screamed, cursing him internally, as she massaged her forehead with a pained expression on her face.

James, who was already in his room and standing behind the locked door, laughed when he heard Leslie’s scream.

He waited for a moment and when he didn’t hear footstep, he smiled and opened the door, and left his room.

He made his way to Patty’s room and when he got there, he stopped and knocked on the door.

"Patty, are you busy?" He asked.

"No. Come on in," she replied, and James opened the door and walked.

James walked into Patty’s room and he saw that she was on call.

"Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I’ve made my decision to leave, and I wanted to inform you directly. I’ll send in my formal resignation email shortly. If you need any assistance before I leave, I’ll be happy to help in any way I can," she said to the person on the other end of the phone.

James realised that she was talking to her boss when he heard what she said and he sat down on the bed beside her, waiting for her to finish with the call.

He didn’t have to wait long as Patty hung up and sighed tiredly.

"I feel bad for my boss. The hostile takeover is real taking a toll on him," she said, with a sad face.

James smiled without any idea of what to say. He wanted to say that everything will be fine but it’s not Patty that needs those words, it’s her boss. And James has a feeling that things won’t be fine.

"So, are you to talk more on the holding company?" Patty asked, as she forced a smile.

"Yes," James replied, and Patty started explaining more on the holding company.
