{Chapter: 214 Taking the Blame}
After Alice and Ada heard what the White Queen had just revealed, a heavy silence settled inside the speeding supercar. The atmosphere was thick with tension and disbelief. It took them a long time to mentally process everything they'd just heard. Eventually, Ada broke the silence, exhaling deeply as she leaned back in her seat.
"I suddenly feel a little sympathetic to Peggy Carter," Ada muttered, her voice a mix of astonishment and pity.
"But there's actually one country in the world that feels grateful to William," White Queen added with an ironic smile tugging at her lips.
Alice raised her eyebrows in disbelief. "Seriously? There's a nation out there that's thankful to this... warmonger?"
"Indeed," White Queen replied. "It's the Chinese Empire."
Alice blinked in surprise. "The Chinese Empire? You mean China? That's unexpected. Why?"
White Queen's tone became more analytical as she explained, "During World War II, Japan was actively invading the Chinese Empire, committing widespread atrocities. But then William dropped the atomic bomb on Tokyo. The explosion completely wiped out the Japanese royal family. This sparked an intense wave of fury and grief across Japan. Believing the United States was behind the attack, they immediately recalled the bulk of their troops stationed in China and redirected their entire military force to fight the Americans instead."
Ada gave a slow nod, beginning to understand. "So, in a twisted, roundabout way, William's actions unintentionally helped save countless lives in China by halting Japan's advance."
"Exactly," White Queen confirmed.
Ada glanced at William through the rearview mirror and smirked. "So, William, you did one good thing after all. Could it be that you did it on purpose? Maybe there's a shred of patriotism buried under that villainy—after all, you're half Chinese, aren't you?"
"You're reading too much into it," Alice interjected flatly. "Do you seriously think he's the type to think that far ahead or act out of compassion?"
William gave a dramatic shrug, a smug expression on his face. "Choosing to let Japan be the first country in the world to experience the horrors of an atomic bomb wasn't exactly random. It aligned with the flow of historical development. I simply played the role fate assigned me. Is that really something to criticize me for?"
"In our world, Japan really was the first—and still the only—country to be nuked," Ada commented. "But it was the United States that dropped those bombs, not some megalomaniacal Hydra warlord."
"I just stepped in and did the dirty work earlier," William said shamelessly. "Honestly, I took that burden off America's shoulders. For an American, I've done a lot of favors for this country, even if they don't appreciate it. Not to mention, I practically destroyed many cities in Asian countries which includes a bunch of cities in China too back in the Transformers World while fighting Lockdown. It all balances out, doesn't it?"
Alice clicked her tongue in disapproval. "Tsk. You keep blaming America, but let's be real—it's your own warped mind that keeps dragging the world into chaos."
William chuckled coldly, his grin razor-sharp. "My loyalty begins and ends with myself—and the women who stand beside me. I don't give a damn which country's blood I spill. If slaughtering a few million in China nets me villain points, I wouldn't hesitate to rain fire from the skies."
He leaned forward slightly, voice low and deliberate. "It just so happens America makes greter entertainment—and my rewards come from eliminating people tied to the plot. That's the only reason I'm not turning this entire world to ash."
His eyes glinted with a mix of amusement and madness. "If sacrificing this planet would give me power, I'd do it without a second thought... without even lifting a finger. So don't weigh yourselves down with guilt over what we're doing. Morality died the moment we chose me."
White Queen rolled her eyes. "You really are hopeless. But you're right about one thing—your reappearance is going to shake the world. Once the media starts piecing it all together, your name will resurface as the nightmare from World War II. I guarantee every intelligence agency and military alliance will want a piece of you."
William stretched his arms nonchalantly, as if he hadn't just been branded the most hated man in modern history. "Let them come. Let the storm rage on. I welcome it."
Alice let out a weary sigh. "Looks like a lot of people are going to die again."
William gave a calm nod. "That's the nature of history repeating itself."
Suddenly, a voice came from the car's internal speaker system.
"Boss, when can I show my face again?" Crosshairs complained. "I've been stuck in this car form for so long. I'm a warrior, not a damn taxi."
William chuckled. "Relax. The time will come when you can shine on the battlefield again. What's with the impatience? A true soldier knows how to wait."
"Alright, alright. If you say so, Boss. You're always right," Crosshairs replied with exaggerated obedience.
White Queen smirked, her eyes glinting. "Crosshairs, you really are wasting your potential running with this lunatic. And I must say, you've become quite skilled at flattery. Were you always like this, or is it a recent development?"
"Don't rub it in," Crosshairs replied in a melodramatic tone. "You'll make me cry. I used to be a proud, fearless warrior—battle-hardened and dignified. Now look at me... reduced to kissing up to this maniac just to feel useful."
"Crosshairs, if you say one more word, I swear I'll rip you apart—believe it or not," William said with a chilling smile curling on his lips.
"...Yes, boss." Crosshairs immediately fell silent.
"It seems like Iron Man isn't that strong after all," Ada suddenly commented as she leaned back, her expression thoughtful.
William nodded, "You're not wrong. In the beginning, Tony Stark's iron suit was honestly nothing special. But he kept improving it, upgrading piece by piece. By the later versions, he could hold his own against some of the stronger beings out there."
"Then why not just eliminate him early on? Save yourself the trouble."
William shook his head. "It's not that simple. If I kill him too early, I disrupt the plot. And anything that sabotages the narrative—like conspiracies or assassinations that don't align with the storyline—doesn't earn me any villain points. And don't forget, this mission requires a million villain points to complete. One. Million. It's insane."
Ada narrowed her eyes, "That really is excessive. The system must have no concept of balance."
"Exactly!" William snapped, clearly irritated. "It has no compassion. But of course, it's not human, so why should I expect it to?"
White Queen suddenly spoke, her expression thoughtful. "About that system..."
William turned to her. "What are you getting at?"
"I mean, what do you think the system really is?" she asked, her tone low and serious.
William thought for a moment, then replied, "To me, it's like a software program. If you imagine the villain space as a giant computer, the system is like the operating system—something like Windows or Linux."
White Queen frowned slightly and shook her head. "I don't think it's that simple. I've been analyzing it more and more, and it feels like there's something hidden deep within it. It's not just a program... there's something else guiding it."
William gave a half-smile. "Is that so?"
"Don't brush me off. Next time, I swear I'm going to dig into the villain space's core functions and find out the truth behind it all," she said fiercely. freewÑ‘bn૦νeÉ.com
The conversation shifted as William glanced out the window. "It's already night. We can't just sleep in the car like vagabonds."
"That's right," he added with a teasing grin. "Though I'll admit, car sex has its charm, but with this many people, it's not exactly ideal."
Ada shot him a glare. "Is that seriously the first thing that comes to your mind?"
"Just joking. Look over there," William pointed toward a grand structure. "The Peninsula Hotel. Looks pretty high-end."
Alice leaned forward, narrowing her eyes. "But if we go in, won't your identity be exposed? You'll be flagged as a wanted man across the globe."
William smirked and turned toward White Queen. "Please. With her here? Not a problem. She can hack the hotel's database, edit guest records, override ID requirements, and boom—free five-star stay, no strings attached."
White Queen rolled her eyes. "Hmph. So I'm just your personal hacker now? I'm a queen, not your tech support."
But despite her grumbling, she still hacked the hotel's system and secured them the presidential suite with little effort.
Once inside, Ada threw herself onto the luxurious bed, sinking into the soft velvet comforter. "Wow... this is definitely an upgrade compared to our usual accommodations. We're practically royalty now."
"Alright, wives," William said with a devilish grin, "how about we celebrate with a nice hot shower—together?"
"Pervert..." White Queen muttered under her breath.
Ada and Alice blushed, clearly embarrassed. Ada tried to divert the situation. "We should probably shower one at a time... or maybe..."
"Why waste water it's a precious resource!" William interrupted, sweeping Ada up with one arm and pulling Alice in with the other. "It's way more efficient—and fun—if we all go in together."
"Let me go, you shameless freak!" Alice protested, struggling in his grip.
William's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Let you go? Now, why would I do something silly like that? Come on, let's explore the beauty of shared bathing rituals."
Before they reached the grand marble bathroom, he looked back at White Queen. "Don't even think about peeking. Be a good girl and head back to your room. It's bedtime for kids, remember?"
White Queen flushed red with irritation. "Tch—what are you talking about? Who would want to peek at you, huh? Don't flatter yourself! Even if I wanted to look... I wouldn't."
The bathroom was lavish—polished stone, golden fixtures, and a bathtub large enough to swim in. As the water filled the tub with steam and warmth, William used his willpower to keep Ada and Alice from escaping.
"None of you are getting away tonight," he said with a smirk. "Just give in to fate."
"Ugh, fine! But take Ada instead! Two's a crowd already!" Alice cried.
"Hey! Don't drag me into this!" Ada yelled back.
William only laughed. "Enough bickering. Come together, both of you. Tonight, we're going to learn all about... human anatomy."
