"Aaaaaaaaaah!" Lina suddenly let out another piercing scream. If her scream from an hour ago was due to pain, then this scream was due to anger.
"What’s the matter?" Pannis asked, pretending not to know what was going on. He blinked innocently and looked at Lina innocently. "Are you uncomfortable somewhere? Why did you scream?"
"You bastard, you... turn around." Lina roared again, her voice as loud as a magical beast’s roar, echoing in the empty control room.
During the previous fight, Lina had let her body be commanded by the Bloody Lady, a Berserker known for being ruthless and fearless. The Bloody Lady favored freedom and stripped off Lina’s armor and skirt armor, tore her pants into ultra-short shorts, and ripped her top into strips that bound her chest. As the intense battle raged on, the strips of cloth wrapped around her chest unsurprisingly fell due to her excessive movements. For a Berserker, who regarded herself beyond gender or even humanity, losing anything that obstructed her was a welcome occurrence. Afterward, due to the physical pain and psychological pressure from the battle, Lina didn’t notice her own appearance until after the fight ended. She saw herself, exposed and covered in blood splatters. This realization made her burst out in a roar of embarrassment and anger.
"Really, it’s just a peek. It’s not worth the scream. Plus, you’re smeared with blood; it’s like you’re coated with paint. Not a sight for sore eyes." Pannis had turned his back on Lina, but he couldn’t help but mumble under his breath.
Lina, who was quickly redressing herself, suddenly stopped. She slowly raised her head towards Pannis, who imagined he could hear the stiff creaking of her neck.
"This is...the...most humiliating...experience of my life." Lina slowly raised the hammer in her hand. Her voice was low and rough, but oddly calm, "The greatest...humiliation..."
"There is only one way to cleanse my shame now." Lina lifted her hammer, the metallic surface gleaming menacingly. Her voice resembled the hammer—cold, indifferent, "To kill you. Only by killing you, no one else will know. I must kill you."
"Hey, hey, calm down, girl." Pannis quickly turned around, realizing Lina had already dressed. Unnoticeably, he clicked his tongue at her manner. Seeing Lina’s eyebrows twitch, he quickly raised his hands and gestured, "Calm down, just calm down. I’m also innocent here, I haven’t done anything, I’m also a victim."
"A victim?" Lina’s eyebrows raised again, and she slowly approached Pannis. She offered a gentle smile, but her voice was colder: "So, seeing my unattractive body is ’victimization,’ huh?"
"No no no, it’s not bad at all, it looks very good." Pannis found himself retreating from Lina’s advances, rambling to explain himself until he hit a wall: "No no no, it’s not very good. Ah, that’s not right either, actually, I didn’t see anything—seriously, I saw nothing."
Lina, like the tolling of a death bell, stepped closer and closer to Pannis. All of a sudden, she grabbed Pannis by the collar of his clothes, pulled him toward her, and yelled, "Forget."
"Huh?" Pannis stared blankly at Lina.
"Forget everything you saw." Lina demanded with a vicious expression on her face: "Everything, forget it all."
"Yes, yes, yes." Pannis nodded hastily and replied firmly: "Nothing happened. I didn’t see anything, and remember nothing."
After she glared at Pannis for a good ten seconds, Lina turned around in embarrassment and frustration. She howled quietly, "Oh my God, she’s seen everything. My purity has been tainted. My future unnamed husband, I can’t face him anymore, I’m no longer pure."
"Um, I’ve already forgotten everything." Pannis wiped off some cold sweat and said cautiously: "Actually, we can talk about something else, like your new divine spell? The one where you raised both of your hands."
Pannis mimicked Lina, holding both of his hands high. Suddenly hit with a recollection, he gasped and froze, encased in the beauty of the memory.
"Raised both hands?" At Pannis’ words, Lina paused and quickly recollected what had just transpired. Upon realizing how she had held her arms up unknowingly and carelessly flaunted her perfect figure in front of Pannis, she felt something inside her head snap.
Consequently, Pannis felt an overpowering murderous intent. He lifted his head to behold Lina, who was standing still, her face obscured by her silver hair. Yet, she seemed to emanate an abyssal black energy.
Pannis immediately rubbed his eyes. It must be an illusion, there couldn’t possibly be any black energy.
"Lina, Lina?" Pannis tentatively called her name twice: "Don’t you feel that it’s getting colder here? Should I lend you my coat, since you’re wearing so little?" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"Right. Killing you is the best option." Lina lifted her head, her eye twitching continuously, "Once you’re dead, everything ends."
"Hey, wait.." Pannis suddenly crouched, narrowly escaping the sweeping attack from the hammer at his head. Darting out from Lina’s side, he stuck close to the wall and started running circles around the control room: "Hey, wait! This is a big misunderstanding!"
"Yes, it’s a misunderstanding." Lina was chasing Pannis with her hammer, her voice seething through gritted teeth. "My killing you is definitely... manslaughter."
"Hey, you already know it’s a misunderstanding. Why are you still chasing me?" Pannis deftly dodged a few times to avoid Lina’s swinging hammer.
"That’s your illusion," Lina gritted her teeth and swung her hammer, chasing after him, "Really, I’m not chasing you, nor am I swinging my hammer at you. It’s all an illusion."
"Really?" questioned Pannis in bewilderment as he ran: "I don’t think it feels much like an illusion."
"It really is an illusion." Lina nodded with certainty: "Illusions are not frightening at all. If you stop running, you’ll see that illusions can’t hurt you. Trust me, I’m right."
"Stop joking around!" Pannis yelled out, increasing his pace: "Who would believe that? I’m not a fool."
The two kept chasing and running around in the narrow control room. Lina, with her relentless pursuit, brandished her hammer behind Pannis, who barely escaped the assaults from behind him a few times. The empty swings of the hammer struck the metallic wall, making a dull thump.
With a "clang", a chunk of metal popped out of the wall after Lina hit it with her hammer, landing on the ground with a clear sound. As the metal piece popped out, the crystal on the control room panel, which Lina had initially illuminated, suddenly dimmed, with all the text and graphics on it disappearing swiftly.
"Hey, be careful, or you might release another batch of magical beasts." The moment Pannis finished his sentence, he saw Lina dart to the farthest point from the metal platform and cautiously observe the metallic platform.
"No worries, there shouldn’t be any more magical beasts." Wiping his sweat, Pannis walked to the fallen piece of metal and picked it up.
"What’s that?" Lina gazed from afar and cautiously asked: "Why did it suddenly fall?"
"I don’t know." Pannis held a pyramidal metal object with its four pointed ends slightly sharp and arched. Its three faces were densely inscribed, while the bottom face was flat: "But it looks like it could be the controlling device of these crystals."
Pannis raised his hand and slotted the pyramid back into the gap in the wall. The gap seemed to have a suction force, as the pyramid was sucked in tightly as soon as it was placed there, fitting seamlessly with the wall. When the pyramid was fixed, sure enough, the crystal on the platform lit up again, and the text reappeared.
"Looks like it is the control device." Pannis lightly pushed the pyramid again. The pyramid automatically popped out a bit, making it easier to retrieve from the wall.
"This is interesting." Lina moved closer to Pannis, took the pyramid, and toyed with it. Suddenly, a ray of light shot out from the top arc of the pyramid. When the light hit the wall, it formed a patch of light with some blurred goblin characters. Even if one understood the Goblin Script, the disjointed characters make it hard to understand. After a minute, the patch of light gradually disappeared.
"Let’s take this back. It’s useless here anyway. We can give it to Vivian as a gift." Lina tossed the pyramid casually: "She will definitely be sulky secretly when we get back. Having this gift will make her feel much better."
"Whatever." Pannis shrugged: "Anyway, there’s nothing left here. It doesn’t matter whether we have this controller or not."
"Okay." Lina nodded, putting the pyramid into her backpack: "Let’s go. It must be almost dawn. We should hurry back and rest."
Peeking outside the control room, Pannis made sure there were no more hidden magical beasts still alive, then stepped outside: "We should really wash up when we get back. This trip has left us covered in blood."
"Covered... in blood?" Lina was taken aback, with a twitch developing at the corner of her mouth. Grinding her teeth, she muttered: "You’re asking for it... Don’t blame me now... Ha, ha, go die!"
"Hey, what now?" Pannis’s pace quickened, as he began to bolt towards the crack outside the gate, shouting: "It’s really a misunderstanding this time. I didn’t mean to bring it up."
"So you meant to bring it up last time?" Lina once again pursued Pannis: "Stand still and let me kill you."
"Only a fool would stand still. Don’t even think about it."
"Stop struggling. Just stand still and let me kill you. I promise it won’t hurt. I’ll end it quickly."
"No way. Besides, you would definitely make my death absolutely horrifying."
The two continued the chase, their voices gradually fading in the dense underground fissure.
