Chapter 865: An Extremely Evil Demon

The crimson fog surged into the prison, dyeing the world inside red.

Caught unaware, the guards at the first gate failed to activate their defensive measures in time. The first gate and its guards were swiftly swallowed by a sky full of crimson starlight. As the fog whooshed past, the guards of the first gate turned into indistinct figures, bounding toward the second gate.

The commander guarding the second gate was from a branch of the Xia Clan, the imperial family. He possessed a Divine Fire Spirit and was an Eminent One capable of wielding the Samadhi True Fire. He was not as mighty as Di Nufeng, but the innate gift of his bloodline still made him a standout among seventh-realm cultivators.

Seeing that there was no way to stop the demonic miasma, he promptly yelled, "Fall back!"

As his subordinates retreated, the commander of the second gate charged forward alone. He thrust out both hands and summoned a wall of purple-gold flames. The mayfly seeds within the red fog crackled violently upon making contact with the Samadhi True Fire and exploded into nothingness one after another.

However, his divine fire was limited, while the red mist seemed boundless. In the blink of an eye, it had closed in on him from all directions. He drew the wall of fire around himself like a shield, but it was only a matter of time before it would be breached.

Just as despair set in, a brilliant beam of light burst forth and pierced through the red mist.

Whoosh

It was divine light imbued with ultimate yang qi. Like a sun rising from the earth, it cut through the mist, forcing it to disperse.

Boom!

The Guardian Ruler landed beside the commander. Without saying a word, he seized the commander by the shoulder and flung him backward.

Now, only the collapsed prison walls and the Guardian Ruler remained on the vast open ground.

He shouted, "There's no need to skulk around in the shadows. Let me see which demon king has come!"

The crimson fog swirled and gathered, condensing in midair into an elderly man. He said in a heavy tone, "Return my elder brother to me..."

When the Guardian Ruler saw the elderly man, he was quite surprised.

He and his subordinates had long anticipated that the demons of the Far West would attempt to break into the prison and free their people. However, he did not know the demons in the Far West had a demon king like this.

Judging by the elderly man's cultivation power, he had likely spent several thousand years cultivating. For him to call someone his elder brother, there was probably no one else that could fit the bill except the Demon God. The Guardian Ruler guessed that this elderly man was a demon grand ancestor who had emerged from closed-door cultivation to lead the attack on the prison.

With those thoughts flashing through his mind at lightning speed, the Guardian Ruler replied with a smile, "If you've got what it takes, come at me!"

Whoosh!

He radiated the divine light of pure ultimate yang qi. The dark, damp red fog filling the sky found no space to exist; it was dispersed and obliterated by the nascent sun!

Bang!

Grand Ancestor Fuyou shattered and dispersed as well. Peace returned to the prison.

Is that... it?

The Guardian Ruler swept his gaze around, certain that things couldn't possibly be this simple. When he turned back, he was extremely alarmed to find several armored guards had passed through the second gate and were running toward the third.

The Guardian Ruler yelled, "Don't let them get close!"

The commander of the third gate had no intention of opening the gate, but he still allowed the guards to approach the base of the wall. The Guardian Ruler's warning had come too late. Several sparkling red motes had already floated out from the guards' noses and mouths and up toward the top of the wall.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.

As the guards at the foot of the wall collapsed, a red gleam flashed in the eyes of those atop the wall. A cloud of crimson fog shrouded the top of the gate wall.

"None of you move!" the Guardian Ruler shouted.

He shot over to the wall, ready to use his divine light to purge the mayfly seeds. However, the crimson fog had already drifted past the third gate and was heading toward the innermost point of the Celestial Northern Prison—the fortress.

"Secure the prison gates! Shut them tightly!"

The Guardian Ruler wasn't worried. The Celestial Northern Prison was well fortified and invulnerable to attacks. As long as no one inside opened the gate, not a wisp of that red fog could get through.

And indeed, that was exactly the case.

When the red fog slammed against the outer wall of the prison building, it hit a barrier for the first time. It couldn't find so much as a crack to seep through.

Just as the Guardian Ruler was earnestly preparing to battle the demon king who controlled the red fog, a beam of light suddenly streaked across the sky.

Whoosh.

Like a meteor tearing through the sky, a blazing ball of golden light plummeted toward the earth at terrifying speed, heading straight for the Guardian Ruler!

"Hah!" The Guardian Ruler made no move to dodge it or move away. Instead, he straightened his back and raised his arms high, welcoming it boldly and aggressively. "Come!" freeweɓnovel.cѳm

Whoosh!

Golden light surged around him as he rose into the sky like a sun, facing the falling meteor head-on.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The collision was so intense that even the capital of Yu, hundreds of li away, quaked in response.

As for the Celestial Northern Prison, it shook violently. The ground split, mountains collapsed, and the area outside the first gate crumbled—everything had changed in an instant.

Amid the swirling dust and fire, a pair of black-gold wings unfurled, blocking out the sun. Beneath those wings was a terrifying figure with a sinister face, raging flames dancing in his eyes. This was the true vanguard of the demons of the Far West, the Demon King of the Desolate Plains.

The Black Golden Crow had come to fight!

...

Moments earlier, when the chaos had just begun...

Chu Liang was about to arrange a room for Du Wuhen. However, he noticed a guard shouting outside.

He grabbed one of the other guards and asked, "What's going on?"

"A strange red fog has invaded the prison. It's suspected that an eighth-realm Eminent One has come to break into the prison and release the prisoners. It's probably a demon king from the Far West!" the guard replied. "Young Hero Chu, you'd best be on guard and take care of yourself."

"Red fog?" Chu Liang uttered, turning to look at Du Wuhen.

Du Wuhen was just as startled. "Could it be my Little Second Brother?"

He hadn't expected Grand Ancestor Fuyou to arrive this quickly.

"We need to go take a look. If it's really Grand Ancestor Fuyou, we can't let him fight the Guardian Ruler," Chu Liang said. "This is a completely unnecessary disaster, and it'll only give the demons an opportunity to exploit."

Du Wuhen nodded in agreement. "Right!"

Amid many guards coming and going, Chu Liang and Du Wuhen made their way to the main gate of the Celestial Northern Prison.

Yet, when they got there, they heard a guard up ahead shout, "The gate won't open!"

"What happened?"

"Go find the Deputy Commissioner Zuo—quickly!"

Amid the chaos, someone suddenly discovered that the talismanic seal to activate the main gate had stopped working. That meant everyone was now trapped inside the fortress of the Celestial Northern Prison. No one could enter or leave.

Upon seeing that, Chu Liang's gaze wavered as he realized something. He immediately shouted, "Go check on those demonic beasts that were just brought in!"

If someone were trying to break into the prison, they would want to open the gate, not make it inoperable. It didn't make sense... unless they were already inside!

The demonic beasts that had been brought in earlier weren't at the seventh realm. Their cultivation levels were low, so they were detained in the outer sections of the Celestial Northern Prison.

Chu Liang followed a squad of guards and swiftly conducted a sweep.

Most of the demonic beasts behaved normally, but the monster fish lay sprawled in its cell, convulsing all over. Its skin had split open in many spots across its body. The monster fish let out fierce growls, seemingly in a lot of pain.

Chu Liang stared at it intently and remarked, "There's something wrong with it. We need someone to deal with this."

With the Guardian Ruler absent, Chu Liang didn't dare order anyone to open the gate. Right now, the Deputy Commissioner Zuo had the highest authority in the Celestial Northern Prison. Yet, the guards that had gone to find him still hadn't returned.

While everyone was hesitating about what to do next, the monster fish suddenly let out a long, piercing screech. "Aaaaahhhhh!"

Rumble... Splat...

The monster fish spat out a round white sphere covered in mucus, with faint shadows writhing inside. The sphere looked big enough to contain a person.

"Did it... just lay an egg?" a guard asked in surprise.

"Who lays eggs through the mouth?" another guard retorted. "That looks more like... a cocoon?"

At the next moment, that cocoon-like sphere cracked open from the center, revealing a figure.

It was a middle-aged man who looked like he wasn't in the best mental state. He was short and shriveled, with sunken features and large, dark eyebags under his eyes.

He yawned lazily, "Ahhh..."

Chu Liang had never seen this person before. He could not sense the man's qi, making him certain the man's cultivation level was far above his. This man was most likely a greater demon at the eighth realm.

Following the man's arrival, the Crimson Executioner shook violently in the White Pagoda, so much so that it seemed to be in a frenzy! Chu Liang had fought plenty of murderous demons before, but the sword had never reacted so intensely.

That could only mean one thing—this demon was far more evil than any other he had encountered in the past!

Chu Liang immediately waved his hand to the guards and yelled, "RUN!"
