Chapter 1976: Chapter 1961: Purgatory

Chen Yang normally couldn’t be bothered to argue with this idiot whose ambitions were higher than the sky.

But there were so many critical patients here, more than a dozen lives on the line—how could he just sit back and watch?

He couldn’t let everyone’s treatment be delayed because of one person’s stupidity. That would be unfair.

"So being a foreign-educated returnee makes you amazing, huh? Prescribing at random without understanding the actual situation—do you have any idea how serious the consequences could be? Back when you were in school, didn’t those foreign teachers of yours ever teach you that?" Chen Yang shot back angrily, then immediately turned and shouted at the other doctors who were still feeding medicine to patients, "Stop feeding medicine to the critical patients right now! Otherwise people are going to die, and when that happens none of you will be able to clean up the mess."

Chen Yang was truly angry now; the domineering edge in his voice stunned all the doctors and made them stop what they were doing.

They raised their heads in confusion, their eyes flicking between Chen Yang and Dr. Wang, not sure who they should listen to.

Dr. Wang’s pride was sky-high; the moment he saw his own people being cowed by this so‑called village quack, he blew up as well.

"Kid, have I been too polite to you or what! What gives you the right to question my ability? Mayor, I just want to ask you one thing: who was sent by the province to handle this outbreak? If you tolerate someone like him interfering with my work, then I’m leaving right now, and you can deal with this on your own! And whatever happens after that has absolutely nothing to do with me!" Dr. Wang said furiously.

"Dr. Wang! We really do need your help on site, but you can’t just ignore other people’s opinions, can you? Chen Yang’s medical skills are famous in all the surrounding villages, and his level is not low either!" The mayor was equally disgusted by Dr. Wang’s attitude and immediately spoke up for Chen Yang.

This time Dr. Wang was livid.

Look at his status, his position.

In a top provincial hospital he was also a leading talent; many older-generation doctors never stopped praising his superb skills. So how had it come to this, being questioned in some godforsaken little mountain village?

"Mayor, are you saying this guy’s medical skills are formidable, that he’s even better than me, and we should all be taking orders from him here?" Dr. Wang gave a cold laugh, his tone dripping with mockery.

"Don’t twist my words. What I mean is, an epidemic isn’t a trivial matter. Any method or suggestion that’s beneficial to treatment should be properly considered, not rejected out of hand," the mayor retorted, not backing down in the slightest.

"Heh." Dr. Wang let out another cold laugh and looked at Chen Yang. "Fine, since the mayor puts it that way, I really do want to hear your brilliant insights. I’d love to see what kind of hidden master your little town has produced."

Dr. Wang’s words were full of sarcasm; it was obvious he still didn’t take Chen Yang seriously.

"Chen Yang, tell him what you’re thinking. This epidemic is no joke, don’t act on impulse," the mayor hurriedly said to Chen Yang, hoping he wouldn’t keep butting heads with Dr. Wang.

He felt quite embarrassed inside, but this wasn’t the time to worry about anything else; treating the patients was what mattered.

Chen Yang understood that perfectly well.

On an ordinary day, he wouldn’t even bother acknowledging this Dr. Wang, but right now more than a dozen lives were at stake. If he couldn’t convince this arrogant guy in front of him, it would be hard to implement his treatment plan.

There was no helping it; he could only suppress his disgust and begin to explain.

"I wouldn’t call it brilliant insight, just some rather unique views. This epidemic is not like the usual ones; compared with other outbreaks, this one is far more damaging to the body."

"I’ve looked over the treatment plan you proposed. It’s all strong, aggressive drugs. They do have a certain effect on the disease and can bring a rapid recovery."

"But have you thought about this: when you use fierce, aggressive medicine to treat a fierce, aggressive epidemic, even if you can cure it, what about the damage done to the patients’ bodies?"

"If you keep following your method, the mild cases might recover after taking it, but it will definitely affect their normal lives in the future."

"As for the severe cases, I’m guessing they won’t be able to withstand the shock of such strong medicine—it’ll cost them their lives! I’m pretty sure you haven’t factored any of that in, have you? You’re only thinking about stabilizing the patients’ conditions as quickly as possible."

"Have you ever heard an old saying—’More haste, less speed’? The harder you press it down, the more violently it will rebound!"

Chen Yang laid out his views in a voice that rang with conviction.

Not only was his reasoning solid, it was packed with medical principles.

Many of the medical staff on site fell into silence after hearing him; clearly, they also felt that what Chen Yang said made some sense.

But Dr. Wang and the group he’d brought with him dismissed it with contempt, even letting out derisive laughs, as if treating Chen Yang’s words like a joke.

"You’re talking as if everything you say is carved in stone. Do you have any concrete evidence? Don’t think that just because you’ve accomplished a little in the sticks you’re something special, you frog in a well! The education I received might not be the absolute best in the world, but it’s at least among the most advanced. What gives you the right to question me? Where do you get that kind of courage?"

The other doctors chimed in with their mockery.

They were all from the provincial capital; in their eyes, Dr. Wang’s words naturally carried absolute authority.

"Frog in a well? Are you talking about yourself?" Chen Yang shot back without politeness, and at the same time he directly asserted, "You already dosed a few patients just now. Do you believe me when I say that in under a minute they’ll definitely start coughing blood and have violent reactions?"

"If you don’t want to screw this up completely, you’d better listen to me: immediately induce vomiting in the patients who’ve taken the medicine, get all of it out, otherwise something big is going to happen."

After Chen Yang finished speaking, Dr. Wang’s expression shifted from cold mockery to outright disgust.
