The Natives of This World Are Fierce
Chapter 41 - 40: Efficient Reinforcements
The girl, Su Su, had left a deep impression on Qin Xiaoxia.
Putting aside her beautiful appearance, her divination ability made her the only person Qin Xiaoxia had met so far who possessed a special Ability.
It wasn’t that he had been deliberately avoiding contact with Su Su for the past two days.
On one hand, Qin Xiaoxia hadn’t yet formulated a basic framework for rebuilding Dawn. On the other hand, there was no pressing need to cajole a girl he barely knew.
Huang Jiutian, however, was a different story. Not only was he an acquaintance, but his profession also provided a significant information advantage, making him a higher priority.
But in Qin Xiaoxia’s mind, Su Su was already a designated member of the association. If something happened to her, he wouldn’t just stand by and do nothing.
So, he immediately replied, "What’s wrong, Su Su?"
In her apartment, Su Su’s heart had been pounding with uncertainty as she sent the message, wondering if Qin Xiaoxia would even respond.
Fortunately, a reply came just a few seconds later.
’Mr. Qin still remembers me!’
The thought brought a flash of secret delight, but it vanished as Su Su quickly remembered the urgent matter at hand.
No longer caring if she might annoy Qin Xiaoxia, she tapped the video call button.
When the video call request popped up, Qin Xiaoxia hesitated for a moment before accepting.
"Mr. Qin, something terrible has happened! My friends Jack and Joseph are missing! It was a Crystal Mine... in Los Angeles... Fifteen security guards disappeared with them... It’s been several days! Please, you have to save them, or it’ll be too late!!"
As soon as the call connected, the words tumbled out of Su Su in a rapid-fire stream, without her even pausing for breath.
Despite her speed and slightly jumbled explanation, with his current faculties, Qin Xiaoxia immediately grasped the situation.
Before he could even speak...
Doudou came running over from a distance on his short legs, waving a rag and shouting at the top of his lungs.
"A Demonized Crystal Mine! It’s a Demonized Crystal Mine~~~"
His hearing was so sharp that he’d heard Su Su’s voice from the video call over ten meters away.
Qin Xiaoxia could sense a mixture of contradictory emotions in Doudou’s voice—fear and excitement.
In the distance, Huang Jiutian and, on the other end of the video, Su Su were both captivated by the shout.
Qin Xiaoxia, however, was the calmest of them all—at least on the surface.
"Su Su, I understand what you’ve told me, and I know it’s urgent. But you can’t expect me to just jump over to Los Angeles. National borders are clearly defined now; it’s not like it was a few hundred years ago."
"That’s right. Never mind anything else, just getting a passport and visa—even if everything goes perfectly and is fast-tracked—would take two weeks at a minimum."
Huang Jiutian, who had traveled abroad before, walked over and laid out the nearly impossible, best-case scenario.
Su Su looked at Qin Xiaoxia anxiously and hesitated before speaking.
"Mr. Qin, can’t you send your people in Los Angeles to rescue them? You... you’re ’Dawn,’ right?"
The moment she said that, both Qin Xiaoxia and Huang Jiutian froze, then turned to stare at Su Su with scrutinizing eyes.
Under their gaze, Su Su’s heart started pounding. THUMP THUMP THUMP.
Her guess, based on her research and deduction, was correct!
But at the same time, being stared at like this by two powerful "Wizards" created an invisible, psychological pressure.
(Su Su assumed Huang Jiutian was also someone who wielded great power.)
Qin Xiaoxia was genuinely surprised. They had only met once, and this girl had probably done some research based on the Engraving she’d memorized on her palm. This raised his opinion of Su Su even further.
Unfortunately, including Huang Jiutian, Dawn currently consisted of only three members. They didn’t have any people in Los Angeles.
A wry smile appeared on his face.
"I’m sorry, Su Su. It’s not that I don’t want to help. You were correct in naming ’Dawn,’ but you don’t understand our current situation."
"Dawn fell into decline long ago. Centuries of ’combat losses,’ suppression by ordinary people, and the pressures of the modern era have left us struggling to even fend for ourselves. We don’t have any external branches anymore!"
Although there were lies mixed into his words, Qin Xiaoxia’s tone was actually quite sincere.
"But I promise you, I’ll go apply for a passport and visa right away. It’s just that the time..."
His words left both sides of the video call in silence.
On one hand, Su Su was grieving because her friends’ chances of survival were slim; on the other, she could hear the painful history of "Dawn" in Qin Xiaoxia’s words.
Doudou tugged on Qin Xiaoxia’s leg from the side, muttering.
"But that’s a Demonized Crystal Mine... That means it could have a Mother Crystal Ore that can be controlled and moved... And it could produce Magic Energy Crystals..."
The words "Magic Energy Crystal" made Qin Xiaoxia’s heart skip a beat. It was a godsend. He desperately wanted to ask Doudou for details right away but managed to restrain himself.
Other than eating, drinking, causing trouble, and having fun, Doudou rarely showed any real interest in so-called treasures. Even Su Su’s Crystal Ball had only been a novel toy for him to sneak off and play with.
The Magic Energy Crystal that Doudou was now fixated on was one of the very wonders he and Qin Xiaoxia had been agonizing over for the past two days—an object that could give ordinary beings a chance to awaken their Magic Power.
Qin Xiaoxia almost wished he could get his visa immediately. He worried that by the time his paperwork was done and he could fly to Los Angeles, the mine might have already suffered some kind of accident, man-made or otherwise.
Suddenly, Qin Xiaoxia’s eyes lit up.
A smile spread across his face as he looked at the phone screen.
"Perhaps I can drastically shorten the passport and visa process."
In his palm, a glittering gold coin had appeared at some point, which he now rolled between his fingers.
For some reason, that single smile gave Su Su, on the other end of the call, a huge boost of confidence. It instantly made her feel that Jack and Joseph could definitely be saved.
In reality, however, when those two unlucky friends entered the mine, to put it nicely, their fate was unknown. To put it bluntly, their chances of survival were slim to none.
「...」
One Gold Coin, one Wish!
Doudou’s Wish Ability wasn’t very powerful, but it all depended on how you used it. This Wish consisted of a single, simple word: efficiency.
Driven by anxiety, Su Su had planned to accompany him through the entire passport and visa process. Instead, she witnessed a speed so incredible it was dumbfounding.
He filled out the passport application in the morning, and before noon, the completed passport arrived by express mail, as if the entire process in between had been skipped.
What was even more outrageous was that the delivered passport already had all the necessary visas.
But Su Su could swear that Mr. Qin didn’t have a passport that morning. Now, not only did he have a passport, but the visa was also taken care of, without even needing to schedule an interview.
Furthermore, booking plane tickets was also incredibly smooth. They were able to directly purchase two adjacent seats on a flight that very afternoon from Qiantang direct to Los Angeles for Qin Xiaoxia and Su Su (with Doudou stowing away).
’This is Mr. Qin’s Magic Power!’
’Yes, "impossible" is a word for mortals. For "Dawn," even a fallen "Dawn," this is merely an application of Magic Power.’
This was how Su Su once again profoundly defined the "Dawn Association" in her heart, making her even more eager to join "Dawn."
「...」
「More than ten hours later, at 8:30 in the morning Los Angeles time.」
Jenny, Mark, and Joey were holding up a sign at the arrivals gate, waiting for Su Su, who had suddenly called the day before saying she was bringing "reinforcements."
The efficiency was truly, shockingly incredible.
Mark and Joey looked particularly anxious. Both had dark circles under their eyes, clear evidence that they hadn’t slept well in a long time.
They didn’t know what kind of reinforcements the mysterious-sounding Feiya on the phone would bring, but at least it was a glimmer of Hope.
