Another World Mall
Chapter 1051: Unexpected Visit
"You are… the Berserker, Kayne Ghorn!" Jean gasped. "You… why are you here?"
Kayne didn't care about Jean. He simply said to Clovis, "To think that you are devilish enough to use this petty trick to lure me out."
Clovis smiled without saying anything. He had set up a few things. From the beginning, Kayne was already in the town.
However, he was probably the weakest Tier 9 human before the fight. The more he fought, the more injured he became. Those injuries would be converted to his strength, which gave him the nickname Berserker.
He originally didn't want to participate, but Clovis made an arrangement to get an item.
Yes, it was Lily. The same name as his grandmother. This way, Clovis removed his option to leave.
Kayne wasn't even angry. He still remembered how he had actually met Clovis a couple of months ago.
After Clovis asked Melody to handle things because he wanted to disappear, he actually did it to go to Kayne.
If he used a plane or something else, the people would find him. Hence, Clovis had no choice but to go on foot and sneak into multiple countries undetected.
Mara normally did it. He knew how to do it after following her around for one and a half years.
He used Another World Mall not only for food supply but also as his shelter. Yes, to make sure no one saw him and so that he could rest properly, he actually slept in Another World Mall.
After some effort, he finally reached the country where Kayne resided.
Kayne was surprised to actually find Clovis on his doorstep. No one alerted him. Usually, if there were such an important person visiting him, the country would know about it first and ask his permission.
He realized that Clovis had actually sneaked into the country.
When he opened the door, Clovis bowed his head politely as though he were acknowledging an elder. "Hello, Sir Kayne."
"Did you sneak into this country? Do you know how risky it is, kid? Maybe I should just capture you here and turn you into this country's asset." Kayne crossed his arms.
"I am aware that my visit this time is highly unnatural, but I wonder if you are willing to listen to my story first…"
Kayne paused for a moment before pointing to the right. "Loop around here and get to the back entrance. It doesn't look like you want people to know you're here, so let's talk in the back."
"Understood. Thank you very much."
"Save it." Kayne harrumphed.
Once he returned to the mansion and told his wives that everything had been handled, he went back to the back of the mansion, opening the door for Clovis. He gestured to Clovis, asking him to follow.
They then reached a gazebo at the corner of the garden. He raised one leg while pointing at him. "So, what are you doing here, kid? It doesn't look like you're going to say something small."
Clovis opened his mouth, but before he could say a single word, Kayne warned him, "I don't need any bullshit. If you're going to waste my time, I will walk away."
Clovis nodded with a serious expression. "I would like to request your help."
"My help?" Kayne frowned. "I heard you were asking Mara Leverstrike to fight that old spear. And now, you're asking me to help you? Don't you know that your grandfather was my love rival? That makes you my enemy too."
Clovis shook his head. "If your actions and your words were genuine back when we first met, we were not enemies."
Kayne's eyebrows twitched. "Why not ask Mara?"
Clovis looked down, wondering how much he should say. But this hesitation was enough for Kayne. "She isn't willing to help you anymore, I guess. That's why you're asking for my help this time. You know, after stepping away from that battlefield, I just want to spend the rest of my life peacefully.
"I don't want to help you and cause myself to be dragged into the battlefield. We're talking about multiple countries here. Do you think my country will be fine after I wreak havoc in another country?
"For the special towers? That's what killed your grandmother in the first place."
Clovis shook his head. "That's not what killed my grandmother."
"No? Were you even there? You weren't even born yet, kid."
"Yes, but I knew that the secret wasn't what killed my grandmother. There was another reason why the Prophet killed her. The Prophet might kill her because of me."
"Because of you? You're becoming more and more confusing. As I said, you were not even born yet back then. Those brats, Gerald and Aisha? They were only close friends, a couple at best."
Clovis didn't say anything further. He just looked at him with a serious expression as though he believed that wasn't the reason with his entire being.
Even Kayne couldn't help but furrow his brows. "Why then? Do they even know about this? Your grandfather?"
"I don't know how much the others know. However, I've only got this clue after entering that tower."
"Care to tell me about it?"
Clovis shook his head. "I apologize. I don't think I can tell you anything about it… Maybe in the future. However, I'm not prepared to tell anyone about this yet."
"Even to your teammates?"
Clovis nodded.
Kayne thought for a moment. "What do you want, kid? Do you have a target?"
"I would like you to help me with the matter of succession of the Dark Moon Mercenary. I've got reliable information that the eleventh Tier 9 human in the world has appeared and he's going to come after us in this competition."
"Oi, oi. Mara Leverstrike helped you enter the tower, but you wanted me to take care of another brat?"
"The Prophet would like to take control of the Dark Moon Mercenary. If he ever succeeded, it might completely stop me from being able to access the towers. That's why I have to win and have the Dark Moon Mercenary as a reliable ally."
"Why not your grandfather? You also have that old shield."
"They won't be able to make a move. I'm sure that the Prophet will be stopping them."
Kayne raised his eyebrows. "Well, maybe I will consider it if you beg me for it."
Clovis suddenly stood up and walked toward him. He bent his knees without saying anything.
"!!!" Kayne was startled and hurriedly grabbed his arm, stopping him. "What are you doing?"
"As you said…"
"Do you know that there is a saying in the east, 'You should only kneel to your elders and to heaven and earth?' And there is another saying in the west, 'A man's pride is as massive as heaven.' Are you really going to do it just because you want my help?"
Clovis just gave him a sincere smile. "I know the saying. It doesn't really break my principle. After all, I consider you one of my elders."
"!!!" Kayne's eyebrows twitched. Seeing such a sincere expression on his face made him unable to say anything.
Kayne scratched the back of his head before looking away. "You cheeky brat."
