Chapter 300: Can You Give Me That?

Dante, who was in line behind Chang Xuefeng, couldn’t help but laugh at the look of disgust on the guard’s face as he spoke to the angel. He had to wonder just how he would react if he knew that he was actually speaking to THE Grim Reaper.

However, he couldn’t do anything to acknowledge the man in front of him, just like he had to ignore the rest of the men in line. The original plan was to take at least a week to get everyone inside, but only a few hours away from Hattie made them realize that they couldn’t go a week without their woman.

In fact, waiting even a single day was like crawling through broken glass. He could feel the cuts and injuries in his very soul the longer he spent away from her, and the guards should be grateful for just how much control he had over Pride.

Because that Sin wasn’t willing to wait so much as another second before setting eyes on his creator again.

"Next!" called out the guard, and Dante stepped forward. "Name, power, rank, occupation."

"Derek LaPorte, spirit and lightning, Tier 1, garbage removal," replied Dante, a blank look on his face as he adjusted the cuff of his shirt.

He had gone with his typical suit and tie, wanting to feel more comfortable in the familiar uniform than the pants and shirt that the rest of the guys were wearing. When the guard looked him up and down, Dante could only raise an eyebrow.

"Garbage removal?" repeated the guard. "You want to change that answer?"

"Acquisitions?" mused Dante, cocking his head to the side. "Security? I’ve played a lot of roles in my life..."

"Security it is," nodded the guard with a look of awe on his face. "I don’t think I have ever met someone with dual powers, let alone one so strong. I’ll forward your name to Jonas, and I am sure that he would love to have you on one of his teams."

Dante only nodded his head before he was escorted to the first checkpoint. The feeling of being watched was only getting stronger and stronger the closer he got to the actual sanctuary... and he didn’t like it.

Letting out a long sigh, I smushed Tank’s face between my hands as he and I sat underneath the same oak tree as before. "I don’t know how much longer I can take this," I said with another sigh.

Tank nodded his head and licked my cheek as Eric looked down at us. "I take it this isn’t your cup of tea?" he chuckled, a soft smile on his face.

"Ooh!" I exclaimed, just as yet another hole in the wall was discovered. "I could really go for a cup of sweet tea right about now." However, my excitement quickly dwindled down when I realized that I didn’t have any on me.

"If you could wish for anything in the world, what would it be?" I asked, looking up at Eric and narrowing my eyes.

"I told you already. I wish to stay beside you and make sure that you are safe at all times," he smiled back at me. Tank had the gull to snicker at me, his tongue hanging out from the side of his mouth as he nodded his head in approval.

Rolling my eyes because that wish wouldn’t get me what I wanted, I was about to open my mouth when I heard a soft voice calling out to me.

’Please,’ whispered the girl, and it had to be a girl. There was no way a grown woman had a voice that soft and weak. ’I wish that someone would come and save me.’ freeweɓnovel.cѳm

My head snapped up at her words, and I scrambled to my feet, desperately looking around. Tank was already on his feet, reacting to my distress, and even Eric looked like he was prepared to throw down with whatever set me off.

"A wish," I purred, my eyes flashing bright white as I tried to pinpoint where the voice was coming from. The only problem was that I was 90% sure that it was in my head, which meant that there was no actual direction for me to go to.

But something so small as not knowing where the wish was coming from wasn’t enough to stop me from granting it.

"I can save you," I purred, my voice taking on a seductive quality to it that it actually caused Tank and Eric to shiver in response. "You just need to tell me where you are or wish that I was beside you, and I will come to you."

’I’m here," came the sigh so weak that if any of the Sins had been in my head, I wouldn’t have been able to hear her. ’The cages.’

It didn’t seem to matter that I had no idea what she was talking about; my magic had already decided that it knew where I was going.

One second, I was standing under a massive tree, and the next, I was just outside a cage that made the ones from Camp Hell look roomy. "Hey, Sweetness," I purred, keeping my voice soft as I crouched down in front of the bars.

The black mass in the cage shuddered as it heard my voice. Ever so slowly, like every movement was filled with excruciating pain, the mass moved until I was staring into two amber eyes. ’Are you here to save me?’ asked the voice inside my head.

If I had thought it was faint because of the distance between us, I was wrong. It didn’t matter how close or how far I was; her voice was still nothing more than a whisper in the wind. This tiny creature barely had any life left in her, and each word she sent out sapped her of even more strength.

"I am," I assured her. "Just make a wish, any wish. I’ll even make the first one free if you want. Tell me what you want me to do; give me your wish, and I can make the world bow at your feet."

’No,’ gasped the woman as her head slowly tilted to the side as if it was getting too heavy for her to keep up. ’I don’t want the world to bow. I want revenge. Can you give me that?’
