Chapter 112: Blood Sacrifice

After dinner, Tyr brings Astri to walk around the river, being guarded by Keane, Saul and other warriors. While they walk, with linked arms, Astri has the vision of Abel talking to a warrior and asking him to go tell the Monster King that it’s going to be his chance to take Astri.

Tyr also saw that and then growled.

"This disgusting worm. He had all chances to change, and now he’s stepping on your good heart." Tyr speaks.

"He decided to take a risk since the chances are too good. First I want to see how this warrior will get in contact with Kangki so fast. Let’s go visit him." She says.

This warrior goes to a prison where beastmen who committed very evil crimes are put. He kills them and gathers their blood in a bucket. He brings it flying to Abel’s room.

Astri and Tyr learned what he did later, when they arrived at Abel’s place. Abel used the blood as a sacrifice and then called for Kangki, who can hear who calls for him when sacrificing something.

Kangki travels his soul and meets Abel. His real body is still in his cave, so what Abel is seeing is like a hologram of the Monster King. Abel kneels in respect.

"My lord." Abel says.

"It’s been a long time since you last called me, Abel. What do you want?" Kangki speaks.

"I know, my lord. But I called you here because I have someone for you that I’m sure will please you." Abel says, showing he’s excited like he’s telling the best opportunity of everyone’s lives.

"Oh really? And who would that be?" Kangki asks, imagining he’s talking about Astri.

"There’s a female that.."

Abel is interrupted when the door opens and Astri gets inside with Tyr. Abel is shocked, and then looks between her, Tyr, and Kangki.

"Keep going. We can wait." Astri says, walking inside.

Abel lost his voice for a moment, then he pointed at Astri.

"She’s the one that I was telling you, my lord. But be careful, she’s very powerful." Abel speaks.

Kangki looks at Astri, then to Tyr. He measures Tyr and then looks at Astri again.

"I apologize for disturbing your rest, Kangki." Astri says walking to Kangki.

Abel looks between them, confused. Kangki crosses his arms.

"Is this the one protecting you? I would rather you stay here with me even if you might get sick." Kangki asks Astri, pointing at Tyr.

Tyr growls, showing his elongated canines as he is ready to shift into a lion.

"There, there, boys. It’s alright. Kangki, no other male would be as powerful as you and me. That’s an unfair comparison." She says.

Kangki clicks his tongue and looks away. She smiles. He’s clearly just jealous, but he got quiet because she said no one can be more powerful than him.

"Good that you know. So will you come with me?" Kangki asks.

"I can’t risk my health. Sorry, dear. You can come with us if you want. But you know that walking around together will call many other’s attention, right?"

Abel is looking between them in shock and confusion.

"You really thought I wouldn’t know, Elder Abel? I’m impressed that you dared to risk everything on this chance. Seriously, I’m impressed." Astri says to Abel.

"You judged me because we were with Monsters. You made us change everything here because of that. But in the end, you were also friends with Monsters! I was right! You only wanted power for yourselves!" Abel angrily says.

"You’re wrong, Elder Abel. Kangki and I help each other to keep each other’s matters in check. I don’t meddle with his things if he doesn’t cross the line, and he does the same. I give him my life energy to live forever, and in exchange, he doesn’t cross the line. If I could I wouldn’t meddle with anything besides what we will be having for dinner. You could have power if it didn’t mean killing innocent people." Astri says.

"I can’t kill her. She would be no use for me dead. If you try to kill her, I’ll kill you." Kangki says to Abel.

Abel sighs angrily.

"Don’t be convinced by her beauty, my lord. She’s treacherous. She’s using you like she’s using me. Like she’s using King Tyr." Abel says.

Kangki raises his hand and a black shadow strongly holds Abel’s neck. Abel feels not only his air missing, but his life fading away.

"Are you calling me stupid, old bird? Do you think that I don’t see who is trying to fool me?" Kangki asks, watching Abel’s eyes fearing for his life.

Tyr looks at Astri, and she’s not stopping Kangki. Abel looks at Astri, asking for her help.

"He’s not crossing the line, dear. Ask him for deliverance." Astri says.

Kangki smiles at Astri, approvingly, then looks at Abel again.

"I could kill you now, but I think you will be useful. Remember to never disrespect me again. Don’t touch her. She’s mine. Was I clear?" Kangki says, and Abel nods with his eyes.

Kangki releases Abel who gasped for air falling on the ground. Kangki walks to Astri and passes his hand on her hair slowly, but his hands are not in fact touching her since he’s not actually there.

"If your spouses are not capable of protecting you, I’ll take you back." Kangki says.

"Fair enough. But if I discover it was you who created a situation like last time I won’t go." Astri speaks.

He smiles and nods. This female has no fear of talking to him and that amuses him.

"Fair enough." He imitates her. "If you ever need me, gather blood like he did and call me. The bigger the amount, the more time I can be around. That’s the difference between us. To call you, someone only needs to meditate and imagine you, and they will be capable of talking to you. With me, a blood sacrifice is always needed."

"People know more about talking to you, though." She says.

"It’s harder to have a pure heart."

"You don’t need a pure heart to talk to me. You just need to want to talk to me. You can talk to me whenever you want, and your heart is not as pure, right?"

He understands now that she’s letting him contact her whenever he wants, he only needs to call her. This female wants to befriend him, and that is not something common. Their relationship couldn’t be more easy, and he wants to keep it that way. She walks to the entrance and Tyr follows her.

"Thank you, Kangki." Astri says.

"For what?" He asks.

"For not killing him." She answers and points at Abel.

Abel is confused by her remark because she didn’t move a finger to help him.

"I couldn’t stop you if you decided to kill him, because he deserves this end. I can’t meddle with your things if you don’t cross the line. You didn’t kill him because you know people would question us why he was found dead after we visited him. His guards would know. You saved us from a headache. Thank you."

Kangki looks away crossing his arms, showing that she’s right. In the end, Abel is alive because of her again.

"See you around." She blinks an eye at him and then he disappears.

Abel sighs, less tense, and then looks at Astri.

"What exactly you are for each other?" He asks Astri.

"We’re like brothers. And our Mother is Nature. I hope you keep helping King Klark after we leave. Kangki spared your life so you can keep being corrupted and gathering your things behind the curtains. I don’t care much as long as you don’t take from other’s mouths. However, remember one thing. Kangki won’t stop me from killing you the same way I didn’t stop him. And I don’t need a blood sacrifice to do that from a distance." She says, then holds onto Tyr’s arm again. "Excuse us, Elder Abel. Have a nice evening."

Tyr, Astri, Saul, and Keane leave. As they walk on the streets, Saul and Keane can’t hold their curiosity.

"Lady Astri, does the.. You know who, is our ally now? Isn’t that dangerous?" Saul questions her.

"I can’t say he’s our ally entirely. We can’t count on him for anything. He only knows that he needs me more alive than dead and he won’t let his pets attack me since I give what he wants. But that doesn’t mean he would help me with anything I ask. He can’t say to others we’re allies or else others of his kind would try to take me from him. And I can’t say that we’re allies because people would believe we’re evil too. It’s just a diplomatic agreement." She explains.

"I see... It scares me with how much you’re smart." Keane says, making her chuckle with his remark.

"Good. That’s good. But don’t spread the word. Oh yes, love. We need to talk to Klark before we leave. He needs to know who I am so he knows he’ll have help even from a distance." She says.

"Sure. Can you arrange this meeting, Saul?" Tyr speaks.

"Yes. I’ll make sure there’s no one else around." Saul nods.
