Chapter 116: Betrayed By Her Best Friend
"Impossible, Kian. Abigail couldn’t possibly do that..." Lana still struggles to believe that Abigail could behave in such a way—beating someone out of jealousy. Besides, she had never seen Abigail show any interest in Kian.
"Well, she claims that I sexually harassed her even when I did not do that. That’s why she beat me up. She’s a delusional and violent person." Kian said with another deep, long sigh.
"That woman is so delusional. How could I sexually harass her when you have fulfilled my need, Lana? My friendly gestures must’ve been misunderstood." He added.
"What!? How is that possible?" Lana frowned, increasingly confused by what she was hearing. "Kian! Tell me the truth! Did you actually harass her? Is that why she attacked you? That she defended herself?"
"Damn it, Lana! You’ve known me for so many years, and you still question that?"
Kian turned his gaze away from her, his disappointment evident in his expression. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
Without looking at her, he continued, "How could I do something like that to her when we have a special relationship?"
Kian took another deep breath, and Lana felt a wave of panic as she saw the disappointment in his eyes.
"Kian, please, look at me..." Lana pleaded, desperate for him to know that she trusted him. "I trust you will never do that to her; you are the gentleman I have ever met. But, I don’t know, I feel weird Abigail beat you because of jealousy."
Abigail, who had just heard the lie that Kian had spread, felt a surge of anger and wanted to confront him right then and there. How could he tell lies with such innocent expressions? How shameless!
Kian then directed his attention back to Lana, smiling as he said, "Lana if you still doubt me, you can ask her." He gestured for Lana to look behind him.
Lana feels her blood running cold when she knows Abigail is in the room with them. She turns to look behind her, and her heart tightens when she sees Abigail staring at her.
"A-Abigail—" Lana felt a lump stuck in her throat when she saw how calm Abigail was now; her eyes had no anger despite what she said earlier. "D-Did you do that?" Her voice trembled.
Abigail didn’t answer; instead, she asked, "Do you believe me, Lana?" she smiled when she saw Lana’s hesitation, knowing she couldn’t defeat Kian in Lana’s heart. Obviously, Lana would choose Kian over her.
’Abby, how naive are you thinking Lana will choose friendship over her sex partner?’ Abigail laughs inwardly.
"Lana, you don’t have to answer me. It’s fine..." Abigail said softly.
She didn’t want to put Lana in a difficult position, and she respected her decision. However, she felt heartbroken because her best friend had betrayed her today.
Hearing Abigail’s words, Lana was shocked. She hurriedly responded, "A-Abigail, gi-girl, listen—" but her words faded when the door swung open.
Willow Reed entered the room again, holding Abigail’s bag in his hand. Surprised to see a newcomer, he hurriedly focused again as he walked over to Abigail.
"Miss Snow, your bag," Willow Reed politely offered as he handed the bag to her before returning to his seat.
"Thank you, sir," Abigail said, relieved to have her bag back.
"You are welcome, Miss Snow," After Willow saw her take out her cell phone, he asked, "Do you want to make a report about the attempt to rape case now, or do you want to wait for your lawyer to arrive?"
Abigail paused before texting Sawyer. She looked at him, "I will wait for my lawyer. Thank you for asking, sir."
"Okay. I understood. That is your right," Willow smiles back at her.
Abigail said nothing as she immediately checked her cell phone. She saw so many missed calls and texts from Sawyer.
When she saw that her battery power was only 5%, she was worried about calling him. But she did it anyway, hoping he would answer the first ring. However, after dialing his number, the phone was inactive, which made her worry.
’He might sleep now? That’s why he turns off his phone?’ Abigail wonders while opening the chat apps and sending him a text.
"Sawyer, I need your help. I’m at the Oracle County police station. Can you send someone who can help me?"
After sending her first text, she typed another.
"My battery is running out. I will turn off my phone and check five minutes from now. Hoping you read this..."
"I’m fine. Don’t worry, Sawyer!"
When Abigail put her cell phone in her bag, she was stunned to notice it looked so messy—someone had just checked her purse and other stuff. She didn’t have time to check what was missing, so she let it be and turned her attention to the others.
Abigail was surprised to see that Lana was still looking at her. Lana and everyone in the room were now staring at her.
"What? Why are you all looking at me like that?" Abigail asked, confused.
Kian responded to her. "Abigail, do you seriously want to sue me for something I didn’t do? Are you sure you can prove that? Remember, you don’t have any evidence," he emphasized, stressing the last word.
Before Abigail could respond, Lana begged, "Abigail, please, can you drop the lawsuit?"
Lana continued when she saw that Abigail wasn’t saying anything, staring at her with mixed emotions:
"I heard from Kian that he plans to drop his lawsuit against you as long as you agree to his offer. Abigail, you and Kian are my favorite staff members at the café. Can you come to a peaceful resolution for this case? In the end, you both will meet again and return to work at the café, right?"
Abigail let out a deep sigh after hearing Lana’s words.
"Lana, I already thought of you as my older sister. But what you did now has disappointed me."
Abigail faintly smiled at her, feeling sad because she had considered Lana a good friend and was about to cut ties with her. She felt terrible about it.
"And Lana, I will never return to work at your café again. I can’t work in a place like that. Maybe you don’t know, but the man beside you is a sexual predator. You are just his sexual partner; he will never love you—that’s what he confessed to me."
"Miss Snow, don’t say nonsense if you don’t have evidence!" Hubner warned Abigail.
Abigail sighed deeply as she looked at Hubner, frustrated by the corrupt and foolish official. However, before she could say something, the door swung open again. She was shocked to see a familiar face appear in the doorway—
