Chapter 115: Hard To Believe
"What? No CCTV?" Willow exclaimed in disbelief. He turned to Hubner. "You investigated this case. Is Mr. Blake telling the truth? Is there really no CCTV footage from the crime scene?"
"There are CCTVs, but none of them are working. There was no recording from that night. So if Miss Snow wanted to make her report, she would end up in jail..." Hubner answered Willow calmly, gazing at Abigail.
Hubner smiled as he noticed her expression change. She looked as though all the color had drained from her face as if she had just seen a ghost.
"Miss Snow, this is your last chance. Please choose wisely: agree to Mr. Kian Blake’s offer, or you could lose and potentially end up in jail if this case goes to court. It’s almost 2 AM; stop wasting time. We all deserve a rest, don’t we?"
Abigail’s eyes tremble as she meets Hubner’s intimidating gaze.
Earlier, she worried about the CCTV footage because Kian could access Lana’s office and know the CCTV servers’ location, allowing him to erase the footage.
But now a slight doubt lingers in her mind: ’Did they tell the truth? Kian must be bluffing, right?’ Abigail refuses to believe his claims.
"Miss Snow? Can you hurry up to make your decision!" Hubner’s pressured words echo, breaking the silence.
Abigail clenched her fist in annoyance as she stared at Hubner, trying to think of what to do. She didn’t want to make a decision that could land her in trouble later.
After a few seconds, she finally said, "Mr. Hubner, I will continue processing my report. We will determine later if there is any evidence. But now, can you please return my bag? Those are my belongings, and you don’t have the right to take them, do you?"
She noticed he didn’t seem to care about her request, which only frustrated her more.
"Mr. Hubner, you are a law enforcement officer. What I need right now is a lawyer. And I also need my phone to call my lawyer! It’s my lawful right, and it is your duty to accept such a request."
Then, Abigail turned to the young policeman still waiting at the door and asked, "Mr. Reed, can you please return my bag?"
Willow Reed didn’t move, but his gaze shifted to his senior, Hubner, as if silently asking for guidance.
Abigail silently cursed Hubner in her mind, recognizing that he had clearly told the young officer not to help her.
"Listen, I will use every means available to sue you, Mr. Hubner. What you are doing to me now is abuse of power, which is downright unlawful! You may not believe it, but I have contacts among your superiors who could discipline you. I’m sorry if, as a result, you might end up losing your job!"
Abigail was no longer worried about making threats; she was exhausted and desperate, feeling that she was being treated like a prisoner.
"I will take your bag, Miss Snow. Please wait here." The young police officer left the room, and she felt relieved. freēnovelkiss.com
At least now she could reach out to Sawyer. She believed he must have tried to contact her several times, but she hadn’t had the chance to respond.
...
Not long after the young police officers left the room, the door swung open again. Lana appeared with a policeman standing behind her.
Abigail was stunned to see her. For the first time since arriving in this place, she felt her heart lighter, utterly happy because she had someone she could trust.
Smiling widely at Lana, Abigail wanted to stand up and hug her. Still, her smile faded instantly when she noticed that Lana’s gaze was solely fixed on Kian. She felt her heart tighten, realizing Lana had visited Kian, not her.
’Maybe she didn’t see me here?’ Abigail tried to comfort herself as she watched Lana walk behind her to approach Kian.
"Lana, I’m sorry to drag you here in the middle of the night," Kian said, an apologetic smile framing his gloomy face as he hugged her. His gaze fell on Abigail, observing her—a barely noticeable devilish smile slowly emerged on his lips.
"What happened, Kian?" Lana asked, sitting beside Kian with her back to Abigail. She continued, "I received your text about you at the police station. Who the hell hurt you like this?" Her annoyed tone echoed in the room.
Kian shrugged, confused about how to begin recounting what had happened to him.
Lana noticed the severity of his condition; bandages covered several parts of his body, including his nose, wrists, and feet. She also spotted a walking stick propped against the wall behind him.
Feeling a surge of anger over what had happened to him, Lana gently placed her hand on his uninjured one.
"Kian, Oh, Kian. Tell me, what happened? Why are you in this police station? I want to understand everything. I promise I’ll help you get your revenge on whoever did this!" She was furious that someone had harmed the man she liked.
"Lana, you might find this hard to believe, but the one who did this to me was Abigail. She hurt me—"
"What? It can’t be!" Lana screamed in shock. "How could Abigail do this to you?"
"Exactly! I don’t even know why she suddenly came after me and hurt me. Maybe she was jealous when she found out we were together?" Kian said carelessly, his desperate gaze still fixed on Lana.
Lana frowned, struggling to believe Kian’s story. However, seeing him battered and in pain made it hard to dismiss what he was saying.
She fell silent for a moment, trying to process what had happened while observing Kian’s injuries. When he explained that he had to return to the hospital for surgery the following day, her worry and sadness deepened.
’Is it true that Abigail did this? How could she? And why would she do it?’
A flood of questions raced through Lana’s mind, searching for answers to why Abigail had acted this way. But the more she thought about it, the more overwhelmed she felt. She couldn’t find any answers.
