Chapter 283: Not Invited!
Before anyone could speak, Sawyer calmly announced, "I gathered you here to inform you that we have identified the person who spread the news."
"You did?" Walter asked in shock, clearly surprised. Even his team could not identify the person who had leaked the news.
Nathaniel, visibly annoyed, asked, "Who is that bastard?"
"Whoever it is, Sawyer, you need to punish them. How dare they release such news without confirmation?" James interjected.
"Yes, I agree with James. That person clearly has malicious intentions. They only target you and Hannah," Nathaniel growled.
Sawyer felt amused as he imagined how shocked the three of them would be if they knew who that person was.
He didn’t rush to reveal it to them. Instead, he said, "I will ensure this person receives the punishment he deserves! I hope you all agree with what I did."
"Of course, I agree!" Nathaniel was the first to respond.
"My son, I don’t care who that person is, even if he’s part of our family; I won’t stop you from doing it." His voice was cold and filled with anger.
Walter clenched his hands tightly, trying to calm the emotions beginning to overwhelm him again. He remembered how those people insulted his wife and son. He knew what he had done in the past was wrong, but they had no right to curse and make harsh comments about his family.
He had already punished himself—quietly and with no publicity—over his marriage to Hannah because of the conditions his ex-wife set before she agreed to the divorce. He had also complied with her demand to take Sawyer as her son, which was intended to punish Hannah by denying her the status of a mother.
He gave his ex almost all his assets and allowed Harvey to take the CEO position at J Group solely because his ex demanded it before she would agree to the divorce.
Walter never complained about any of this. He accepted all of it because he knew he was wrong.
The secret they had protected for many years is no longer a secret. He has no reason to withhold information about his wedding to Hannah, and he will publicly acknowledge her as Walter Jones’ wife.
He has already prepared the announcement, which will be posted on the company website tomorrow morning.
...
Sawyer smiled with relief upon receiving their blessing. This was precisely what he needed—their permission.
"Thank you, Grandpa, Grandpa Philips, and Dad, for your support. I will make sure that this person receives his punishment soon."
Nathaniel and Walter nodded in satisfaction, pleased to hear that the person who challenged their family would soon face consequences.
Their laughter and chatter echoed in the room as they waited for the waiter to serve their drinks.
After the waiter left the VIP room, Sawyer remained silent momentarily, enjoying his drink while listening to their conversation. It didn’t take long for him to clear his throat to attract their attention.
When they all turned to look at him, he said, "Grandpa, Dad, are you not interested in knowing who that person was?"
"We want to know who it is," Nathaniel responded, receiving nods of agreement from Walter and James. They were all eager to learn the person’s identity.
Sawyer emptied his drink before replying, "My beloved older brother, Harvey Jones!"
A sudden silence enveloped the room.
Neither of them spoke as if frozen in place. Their disbelieving gazes were fixed on Sawyer after they heard that Harvey Jones was, in fact, the person responsible for the news.
After silently observing his elders and father for a few moments, Sawyer sighed deeply. He could sense their disbelief; they all seemed unwilling to accept the truth.
"I know this is shocking and difficult to believe," he said, "but it’s true: Harvey was the one who first revealed the news about our family..." Sawyer continued, explaining what he had discovered and how Harvey came to share this information.
Soon after, Nathaniel began to react. "Sawyer, are you certain he did that?"
"Yes, I have evidence that he leaked our family secret. Not only that, but I have enough proof to put him in jail. But putting him in jail would be too easy. I will take away his dignity and ensure he no longer dares to leave the house to meet other people." Sawyer wanted to express these thoughts, but he kept them to himself.
He did not want Grandpa Philips to change his mind and stop Serena from marrying Harvey. He needed to punish both—Through Ethan, he discovers that their marriage has a hidden agenda.
"Grandpa, Dad," Sawyer said, glancing at Nathaniel and Walter before continuing, "I wouldn’t have dared to gather you all here if the evidence I had weren’t so strong."
Both men fell silent again, their expressions gloomy.
Sawyer inwardly chuckled, relieved that they weren’t saying anything else; however, he soon became worried that his Grandpa and Father might change their minds and ask him not to confront Harvey.
For a moment, he pushed aside his worry and turned to Grandpa Philips, who was still in shock. "Grandpa Philips, I called you here because Harvey will also be part of your family. You need to know about this."
James Philips couldn’t find the words to respond, but he nodded slowly, understanding what Sawyer was saying.
After allowing them a few more minutes to process this shocking news, Sawyer emphasized his goal, stating, "I hope you all didn’t stop my plan to punish Harvey." His tone conveyed confidence, sounding more like a declaration than a request for permission.
Sawyer continued chatting with everyone but chose not to disclose the details of his plan to punish Harvey. He simply asked them to prepare and instructed them not to reveal anything to anyone, including their partners.
Before long, they finished their conversation.
When Sawyer thought they would all return to their own homes, he was shocked to discover that the three of them planned to come over to his house instead. They decided to spend the night.
"Call Paul to prepare the guest room for us, Sawyer," Walter said casually before getting into his car, not waiting for his son to respond.
"Brat, don’t give me that stare," Nathaniel laughed, standing before his grandson. "You know your grandma visits Abby, right? She decided to spend the night at your house, so how could I not join her?" He patted Sawyer on the shoulder and gestured for James to get in his car.
James chuckled as he looked at Sawyer’s dumbfounded expression. He patted him on the shoulder before following Nathaniel.
Sawyer sighed softly, then took out his cell phone to call Paul and ask him to prepare the room for everyone. He then got into his car.
As Sawyer was about to close his eyes, his phone rang and distracted him. He felt a rush of dizziness when he saw the name on the screen.
’Damn it! Why haven’t I blocked him?’ he thought, letting out a deep sigh before answering the call.
"Little bro, why did you take so long to answer?" Harvey Jones’s cheerful voice came through the line, making Sawyer rub his forehead.
Sawyer tried to keep his emotions in check, pretending he didn’t know what Harvey had done.
"What do you want?" Sawyer asked, ignoring Harvey’s initial question.
"Tsk, tsk. You’re a bit impatient, little bro," Harvey laughed.
Just as Sawyer was about to hang up, Harvey’s laughter suddenly faded, and his voice lost its previous cheerfulness. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"Sawyer, I want to apologize first. After speaking with Serena and my mother’s family, they have decided to forbid you from attending my wedding..."
A deep sigh came from Harvey before he continued.
"Little bro, the news about you and your mother concerns my mother’s family and Serena. They believe it might negatively impact our sacred ceremony, so we have decided not to invite you or your mother. This decision is meant for your sake and ours. I hope you can understand."
Sawyer stifled a laugh as he listened to the insincerity in Harvey’s voice. Despite the obvious fakeness of his words, Sawyer felt a sense of relief; he now had a reason to tell his father and grandfather that he wouldn’t be attending the party.
"Okay, I understand," was all Sawyer managed to say.
On the other end, Sawyer heard Harvey take another deep, heavy breath, which made Him want to laugh even more as he imagined what would happen next. In the end, he decided to let his big brother have a moment of happiness.
"Damn it! I feel terrible not having you at my wedding, little bro. But what can I do? I can’t go against my mother and Serena. I hope you understand..." Harvey said apologetically.
"Do you need a gift from me?" Sawyer asked nonchalantly, almost ready to hang up because he was tired of Harvey’s insincerity.
"A gift? There’s no need, Sawyer. I know you don’t have a source of income, little bro. There’s no reason to spend money on me. Besides, I only accept expensive gifts for my wedding," he laughed.
"Are you sure? You can say so, and I’ll try to buy it for you," Sawyer replied.
"No need. Please, keep whatever fortune you have for yourself and your family. You need money to take care of that pretty wife of yours," Harvey said sarcastically.
"I see. Okay, bro. Thanks..." Sawyer said before excusing himself from the call. He was worried that he might accidentally reveal his plan.
After ending the call, Sawyer’s smile grew broader. He knew Harvey had no idea he had been exposed.
