Chapter 54: The Coming of the Devils

The silence, previously interrupted by the pressure felt from her cough, now returned more naturally, as if everyone had been absorbed in reflecting on what Yvanna had said.

"What do you mean?"

"How is that possible?"

"Are you talking about monsters?"

...

One question after another emerged, but the person in question didn’t answer right away. She knew she had said something shocking and was giving everyone time to fully grasp the concept.

The only ones whose expressions hadn’t changed were the two consuls beside Yvanna and the old Immutable.

Their eyes were steady, focused, as if they were awaiting a truth they already knew.

A few seconds later, Yvanna continued. "The invaders call themselves Devils. They claim to come from a higher-tier civilization, with beings far more powerful than us."

The room fell silent again.

"They’ve already destroyed numerous cities." The woman’s tone remained calm, as if none of this concerned her. But only the two consuls knew the truth.

Knowing Yvanna, they knew what she was feeling. She would’ve wanted nothing more than to charge at them and kill them all.

But she knew that fury would accomplish nothing—she would only die in vain. They needed a plan.

That’s why this meeting was being held.

But, to Yvanna’s dismay, nearly everyone here had been blinded by their newfound power. They no longer took her—or anyone else—seriously.

After all, until just a few months ago, each of them had only been Rank S.

With the appearance of many more high-level Gates and more resources, each of them had found the opportunity to break through.

But rising in level didn’t mean becoming wiser. And that room was living proof that power without discipline was just a flame destined to burn everything.

All of this was thanks to Cambela. What she had said was true. She truly wanted to advance the human race to a higher level through combat with monsters.

"Let him in," Yvanna continued. "He’ll explain the situation."

With a nod, the consul on her right issued a mental command to one of the guards outside the room.

A moment later, the doors opened and a figure entered the opulent hall, accompanied by a guard who, after bowing briefly, stepped outside and closed the doors behind him.

"H-h-hello!" the newcomer bowed his head in respect. He was only Rank S, but his presence here meant a lot. freeweɓnovel.cøm

The man was visibly worn out, his face marked by fatigue and the horrors seen with his own eyes. His clothes were partially burned and torn, unmistakable signs of a recent battle.

After all, he was the one who sent the message of the invasion to Yvanna. But not because he managed to escape.

Not at all.

Among the figures present there, one in particular looked at the newcomer with a sharp gaze. It was Lord Andreas Forpl, of the noble house of Forpl.

"So, Ronald." Yvanna’s voice fell like thunder, easing the pressure on the man. "Tell everyone what happened."

After recovering, Ronald began to recount what had happened to everyone.

The more Ronald spoke, the more everyone’s expressions turned furious. Fear could also be seen on their faces. They hadn’t expected something like this.

"The only way to save ourselves—" Sir Ronald Forpl concluded with uncertainty, "is to hand them over a being named Cambela."

Confusion replaced fury.

Cambela?

They didn’t know anyone by that name.

"So you’re saying they let you go to send this message?"

"Exactly—"

Before he could finish his sentence, the consul to Yvanna’s right suddenly spoke.

"Well, there’s no point in continuing to talk."

Everyone’s eyes fell on him. They didn’t understand what he was talking about.

Then—

A deafening explosion echoed all around them.

The hall shook, and for a moment the entire structure seemed on the verge of collapse. The chandeliers swayed, the flames of the torches were extinguished, leaving only the cold magical light emanating from the enchanted walls.

The invisible barrier that protected the city from attacks had been destroyed. And judging by the tone of the old consul, the attack that shattered it was strong and fast.

After all, he was the one who created that barrier.

They all stood up. Their first objective was to block the threat.

Without further words, they all rushed to the outskirts of the city, where the auras of the enemies could be felt.

Meanwhile, the city was in a state of maximum alert. From the first alarm, all citizens below Rank S were taken to special emergency shelters.

After all, their world was full of formidable beasts, and they couldn’t afford the luxury of taking it easy.

They had many safety measures in place.

The magical bells scattered throughout the city rang in sequence, creating a synchronized echo of panic and urgency. The streets emptied within minutes, and the evacuation portals redirected the population to safe zones protected by ancient forces.

Jeremy, Cambela, Aliken, and Victoria had no intention of retreating in the face of the threat.

But only Victoria seemed alarmed by what was happening.

Jeremy wasn’t taking the matter seriously at all. After all, he was strong—he would manage.

"They’re finally here," Cambela murmured following the explosion.

"Well then, let’s welcome our guests. They’re here for you, after all," Jeremy whispered in response.

The boy’s tone was calm, but his eyes gleamed with a cold light, as if he had been waiting for this moment for days.

Hearing those words, Victoria’s face turned pale, but she didn’t have time to say a word before the three of them headed toward the explosion site.

After a moment of hesitation, Victoria decided to follow them. She couldn’t appear weak, nor did she want to. She had said she wanted to test her power.

What better way to do so than this?

Sure, the auras she felt were terrifyingly powerful, but she couldn’t let the matter go.

Jeremy took his time. He didn’t want to be the first to arrive. But there was no need to worry.

By the time he arrived, the place was already full of fierce-looking figures.

The group of devils was intimidating. Fortunately, not all of them were present—only a small group, composed of 10 Rank EX and 100 Rank S.

They had split up, each in similar groups, ready to explore this world and sow terror.

"Looks like we’ve found their hiding place."
