Chapter 17: Best Layed Plans
Lily had never felt more sure of herself than in that moment. Dimitri had meant it when he said she was to be his mate. Lily felt like her heart was ready to burst with the knowledge that he was hers. Pulling back she traced his jawline staring into his eyes with love and adoration.
She wanted to tell him who her mother was, but they still had a long way to go for that secret to be revealed. She knew the information could be used against her if known to the wrong people. Keeping silent for the time being seemed the better idea, even if it was with Dimitri.
Dimitri had never wanted anyone so much in his life. Lily made his heart soar and feel alive after so much fear in his life. No one in the castle had ever cared for him the way she did. All he wanted to do now was declare to everyone that she was his mate and no one would replace her. His mother would want to meet her especially if he was to get formally married.
"I have someone I would like you to meet." Lily wondered who he might want to introduce her to now seeing as the last person was introduced to she fainted in front of. "Should I be worried about who?" Dimitri smiled a rare smile one that reached his ears showing genuine care. "No not at all. I’m sure she will love you."
Now she was very curious as to who he wanted her to meet. "Wait! What about the meeting?" Dimitri sat back in his chair still holding her hand as he answered. "My father.....hmmm...He wishes to complete the marriage alliance with the Wolf Clan using you. He is aware that you will be family, but he wants the alliance to put those wolves in check or so he says."
It took Lily a moment to realize that all the dragon king wanted was control. Control of his land and control of his people. "He really doesn’t trust anyone, does he?" Lily’s question caught him completely off guard since most couldn’t tell what his father was thinking.
"No, he doesn’t. My Uncle is his closest advisor. Even with all the military personnel and the nobles he works with he must be weary of them. When you told him about my Uncle being your mentor it shook him. Something that I hadn’t seen before." Lily found herself wondering what has set the Dragon King so on edge.
"So will he contact the Wolf Clan about the marriage arrangements? Or can we skip contacting them since they aren’t real my family? I have paid my debt to them ten times over with all the work I did. If that fool of a wolf king knew how to do the work, to begin with, they wouldn’t be so far behind."
"You’re not mad about him asking for a marriage alliance?" He thought for certain she would object, but she was very calm and collected with the news. "He’s a king who needs to make sure whatever heir he chooses has a strong backing. Using the alliance he’s been seeking for years is one way to ensure that."
Lily knew that having strong connections was necessary to keep the power between nobles and rulers balanced, but she didn’t like being used as a pawn for someone else’s game.
Dimitri could see why the Wolf King tried like hell to keep her hidden from the world, but Lily was too smart for him to control. He was exceedingly glad that Lily got away from them. "However, the Wolf King will try to have me come back so he can put me in check to gain whatever it is he wants. And if I had to guess it’s something no one but the two kings knows about."
Dimitri thought about her words seeing a serious problem about to forming. "Then finding the answer to the dragon moss problem will be your top priority. Finding the solution will prove to him that you are completely loyal to the Dragon Clan." He was right and Lily knew it too as she nodded in agreement.
"Are you well enough for a short trip?" Dimitri asked her wanting her to meet some one very important to him. Lily nodded yes sitting up letting the covers fall seeing that she was still in her cloths. Her head didn’t spin when sitting up so she went about putting her boots back on.
Ready to go Lily puts on her coat standing next to the door. Dimitri had gotten out of her way as she went about getting ready to leave. Waiting patiently he offers his arm as they leave, turning to lock the door handing her the key. "No unwanted visitors anymore." She laughed taking the key grateful for his consideration.
Dimitri lead her threw the castle people seeing them, whispering as they walked by. Lily hated attention, but when she was with Dimitri she just didn’t seem to care. Dimitri knew where he was going knowing the place he was heading to.
They approached a temple a little ways down from the castle one that had been in the Dragon Clan since the castle was built. Only a few people resided here one of which he held very dear. Walking through the gates he guided Lily to a small garden with a tree and a sitting area already occupied.
Approaching the person sitting at the tea table enjoying her tea Dimitri knelt down bowing to her. "Lily, this is my mother and the priestess of this temple, Lady Kyoka. Mother this is my soon-to-be mate, Lily." The woman smiled at her as Lily quickly bowed to her future mother-in-law. "Its about time you found your mate. My dear aren’t you beautiful."
Lily blushed having never received a compliment like that before bowing showing her respect for this woman. "Thank you. It is an honor to meet you, my lady."
"Why don’t you two sit down and tell me how you met, hmm?" Lady Kyoka said sipping her tea curious about the female in front of her.
