Daily Life in the 70s-Chapter 73 - Careful Attention
73: Chapter 73: Careful Attention
73 -73: Careful Attention
As Shen Yiguang had said, he didn’t take it any further.
He just held her in his arms, his head close to hers, and she could even hear him softly sniffing her hair before he said in a slightly deep voice, “Minmin, did you wash your hair with scented soap?
It smells so good!”
“Stop talking, I’m really tired,” Minmin Yang Peimin shifted uncomfortably forward and immediately felt the man behind her inhale sharply, which frightened her into stillness.
Since she had agreed to marry, she knew that sooner or later this would come, not that she was being prudish.
Her family in her previous life had been overprotective; if the television showed even slightly suggestive scenes, her parents would quickly change the channel, forbidding her to watch.
In high school, fearing she would fall in love too early, they even had her cousins escort her to and from school.
They also convinced her to cut ties with friends who engaged in early relationships.
Even living in an age of information overload, she only knew about the matters between men and women vaguely, and she wasn’t overly curious about it.
She believed these things should happen naturally between two people when the time was right—feeling was everything, and for someone who didn’t even have a boyfriend, it wasn’t appropriate for her to dwell on it.
But who could have expected that she would end up here, and as a woman in a flash marriage, no less?
Her relationship with Shen Yiguang hadn’t reached that point yet.
Although she could feel Shen Yiguang’s restraint, he didn’t do anything, and she secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Minmin Yang Peimin waited stiffly for a while but eventually couldn’t fight the heaviness of her eyelids and quickly fell asleep.
In a dazed state, it was as though the heat had awakened her.
As if she was lying next to a furnace.
And then…
“Shen Yiguang, where are my clothes?”
“They’re here, not lost.
I saw you sleeping awkwardly, so I took off your outer layer.”
Minmin Yang Peimin felt around and indeed, her sweater and undergarments were still on, but something felt amiss.
She turned and glared at him, “Where were your hands just now?”
Shen Yiguang’s deep eyes stirred with emotion as he leaned closer, “Minmin…”
Minmin Yang Peimin used her hands and feet to push him away, “Shen Yiguang, you still smell of alcohol!”
Alright, Shen Yiguang sighed helplessly.
“What time is it?”
“Almost five o’clock.”
“That soon!” Minmin Yang Peimin sat up hastily, “Have the guests left?” She hadn’t realized she had slept for so long.
“Most of them have left,” Shen Yiguang also sat up and reached for his clothes.
“Wouldn’t, wouldn’t people have opinions about me sleeping here?” she asked while putting on her clothes.
It was her first day entering the Shen household, and from past experiences, she knew all too well how important reputation was.
Shen Yiguang reassured her, “Why would they?
Everyone knows the bride doesn’t have to work on the first day, and your man got drunk too.
Besides, where else would you go if not by his side in the bedroom?
It’s normal for newlyweds to be affectionate!”
There was something off about that last part.
Maybe she was overthinking it.
But Shen Yiguang’s next words confirmed she wasn’t overthinking, “When we entered, didn’t they chant for us to have offspring soon?
Why wouldn’t they understand?”
Minmin Yang Peimin glared at him, would it kill you to speak less?
She hadn’t realized he was that kind of person, deceivingly serious on the outside.
Having gotten ready, they left the room.
Though a bride isn’t supposed to do chores, Minmin Yang Peimin felt uncomfortable doing nothing and ended up helping Shen Yichun, the eldest sister, in the kitchen.
Fortunately, the sister was kind-hearted and didn’t tease her or ask any awkward questions.
Minmin was also particularly nimble, and it wasn’t long before dinner was ready.
For dinner, the Shen family sat down together; with sons-in-law and children included, they filled two tables.
Minmin Yang Peimin sat down and unavoidably became the subject of scrutiny.
“Yiguang, do you feel better after your nap?” Shen Yixia asked Yang PeiMin.
And Yang PeiMin was puzzled.
Shouldn’t this question be addressed to Shen Yiguang?
She wasn’t him; how would she know?
Fortunately, Shen Yiguang was sitting beside her.
She nudged him with her elbow, signaling him.
Shen Yiguang replied to Shen Yixia, “Much better, nothing serious.”
“When Yiguang slept, what were you doing in the room?
We actually wanted to chat with you to discuss some family matters, but when we went to call you, we found the doors and windows were all bolted from the inside,” Shen Yidong stared at Yang PeiMin with a somewhat teasing smile.
He seemed to be trying to catch a blush of shame on her face.
Then the others waited curiously for her answer, showing an unusual interest in this matter.
“Sister, it’s fine to talk now, isn’t it?
Was I not paying attention, or can’t the doors in the house be locked?” Yang PeiMin asked with a smile.
“Sister, just by asking a question, you make it sound as if I don’t allow you to lock the doors,” Shen Yidong said with a displeased expression.
“Sister, is there something so urgent that you need to find Minmin for?
Or do you think your brother should just fend for himself?
She was taking care of me, wanting me to have some peace while I slept, that’s why she closed the doors and windows,” Shen Yiguang looked straight at Shen Yidong, with a teasing smile on his face as well.
Sister was suddenly at a loss for words.
The other sisters busied themselves trying to smooth things over.
“Sister-in-law is considerate.”
“Yidong is just straightforward.”
And with that, the subject was changed.
Yang PeiMin smiled good-naturedly and said nothing more.
In spite of the looks from those around, Shen Yiguang loaded her plate with several pieces of meat.
“Talk less, eat more meat.” Of course, he also served his parents.
The Shen family looked on with envy.
In those days, cherishing one’s wife was something that usually happened behind closed doors.
Once outside, men were supreme—the very embodiment of authority and prestige.
In some households, women couldn’t dine at the table, couldn’t speak in the presence of men, and had to be mindful of their husband’s dignity, holding a vastly different status behind closed doors and in public.
“Look at this, how he cherishes his wife,” Shen Yiqiu, the third sister, complimented.
Shen Yixiang’s eyes were red as she said, “I’m full.”
“What’s wrong with this child now?”
“Leave her be; she’s grown enough to know that if she doesn’t eat, she’ll be hungry,” Shen Erniu remarked.
So, the eldest sister, who was about to go after Shen Yixiang, sat down sheepishly after hearing this.
Yang PeiMin ignored the scrutiny of others and quickly filled herself.
That evening, Shen Yiguang brought her water, surprisingly in a large bathing tub.
Yang PeiMin was quite surprised.

“How does your family have a bathing tub?
Who usually uses it?” In this colder climate, people didn’t bathe frequently; bathing three times a week was already considered good, and some even just once every half month.
“I had it made for you.
I asked Fourth Uncle to help, and several people worked through the night to finish it,” Shen Yiguang said with a smile as he looked at her.
“Really?
How did you know I’d like this?”
“Didn’t you try to repurpose that big tub for storing household water at your father-in-law’s house last time?”
Such thoughtful care.
And to hold it so dearly.
Moved, Yang PeiMin hugged him, coming up on her toes and gave him a kiss on the cheek, “Thank you.”
Shen Yiguang was startled for a moment, and then a peculiar light burst forth in his eyes, fierce and burning.
