Dark Magus Returns-Chapter 1290: Magic Test
The one thing the group had done before arriving was get a few gifts from Alen before they left.
When they woke up, the gifts were left in their rooms. Some had wondered how they had even received them in the middle of the night without waking up.
They could only guess that it was some type of magic. They had been told what the items did and how they were used.
One gift was clothing. They would be given a uniform as long as they were accepted into the academy, but approaching in the clothes they were in, they would be turned away at the door.
Left for them was top-of-the-line clothing: straight blazers in an array of colours with jewels embedded into the clothing itself.
Raze thought it was a bit over the top, but apparently, Alen didn't have any other spare clothes around the house.
However, Raze noticed that they were ordered in as one of his staff members was told to fetch them, so that couldn't have been the whole truth.
Then there were rings, one for each of them apart from Raze. These rings were small storage units.
They had the same feature as Raze's blazer. Instead of carrying around large items and bags on their backs, they could now store weapons in their rings.
Mages, especially in academies, were quite confident in their teachers' powers and skills.
So they didn't even check particular rings. Other than the attack from the Dark Magus, none of the academies could even remember when anyone was brave enough to attack or fight back.
The only thing that had happened was some arguments between mages or some unruly students who didn't trust the results given, but the teachers who were high-star mages were always able to solve the issue.
Now, in their new clothes and with their items hidden, they stood in front of the academy itself.
It was a grand building with spires and reminded many of them of the buildings in the Light Faction area.
Only there was a level of detail of straightness and smoothness to the buildings that couldn't be achieved by hand.
The area stretched far left and right, and even the entrance was a giant arched hallway that led into the centre of the academy.
The academy itself was more shaped like a rectangle with several buildings attached to it and a large field in the centre.
"This is a mage academy…why does it feel so fancy?" Liam asked.
"I guess this is what happens when you can just use magic to build all your buildings, right?" Dame asked.
"Pagan warriors can build fairly quickly as well due to their strength," Raze mentioned. "We all have our advantages."
While walking through the grand arched entrance, the group wondered just what was going to happen. There was no one there to meet them, no one there to greet them either.
Eventually, this caused them to stop in the middle as they saw that there was no one there.
"Should we wait outside?" Safa asked. "I feel like someone was meant to meet us. Alen has been so thorough with preparing everything. It just feels strange that we are allowed to just walk in."
"You are right," Dame replied. "Even at our academies, we have guards and teachers that would have stopped us. Why are things so relaxing here?"
They looked to Raze for answers, but he was just smiling at them.
"I am not alone on my journey anymore. It is not a decision I make by myself, so I will follow whatever you all decide to do."
They all felt like the answer coming from Raze was strange, but they decided to keep walking straight ahead until they could see someone and ask for help.
If they saw no one, then they would just return and wait a while before continuing forward.
They continued to walk and walk, and as they did, they noticed something.
"That's strange," Beatrix said, rubbing her eyes. "We're not getting any closer."
"What do you mean? Our legs are moving, and that's…" Liam paused for a moment as his system was giving him information.
He could see the number of meters from where they were, and as he moved forward, he could feel his feet hitting the ground and him moving, but the distance was staying the same.
"She's right, we're moving but we're not moving. It's like we're staying still or the hall is getting longer. This is so confusing!"
In that moment, Dame used his Qi as he kicked off from his feet and tried to charge forward. The others stayed still. They could see he was moving, but it almost appeared as if he was slipping back. He only moved a few steps before he returned to his original position.
It was a strange sight for all of them to witness, and their brains were having a hard time grasping it.
"We're stuck here, we're literally stuck in this hallway. We've been to like three places, and at every place we've been to, we keep getting into trouble."
Safa looked at Raze and could see a smile on his face, which told her quite a lot that she already knew.
"You know what's going on, right?" Safa asked.
"I do," Raze answered.
"And you're not planning to help us, right?" Safa asked.
"I'm not," Raze said. "This situation, it's quite a classic method of testing new students that haven't been here before. You all need to get used to fighting with a mage.
"Although we have come across those in Pagna, they are fighting on the spot, unprepared, but most mages do not fight this way.
"Just because one is stronger than the other doesn't mean that they will always win, and this is a good example of that."
The others were a little annoyed that Raze had just let them go on the way they had been doing for a while and didn't tell them anything, but they understood his reasoning.
"So tell me, if we don't know magic, how are we meant to get out of here, because my system isn't giving me any hints?" Liam asked.
He thought about it for a while. He did have his sword saved in his storage, the sword that could cut through anything, and there was a good chance that it could cut through this illusion as well.
"Don't do it," Raze said. "Although I am confident that there is no one close by who can hear us, as these are usually separate spaces, who knows who is watching or who will be there when we leave."
Listening carefully, they knew that none of them should use their items or Qi, but what choice did that leave them with?
Safa started to make note of the words that Raze used, and then it hit her. She used her god eyes, concentrating her magic in a particular area.
Then, while focused, she could see it. Magic was swirling all around them in a separate space.
It all pinpointed to one place on the wall. She walked forward towards it and pressed her hand against the area.
"All of the magic is flowing from here, that's how this space is kept up, and I can see a magic circle around it as well. If I just do this!" With her own light magic, she broke through and broke the magic circle.
Then, like a glass mirror, the whole entire area around them shattered into pieces, breaking apart.
The strange thing was, none of it looked any different. It all looked exactly the same as if they were in the same place.
"What was that…are we still stuck?" Liam asked when he took the first step, and a few steps more, he could see the system updating itself.
"It worked, whatever she did, it worked," Liam said as he started to make his way forward.
The rest followed slowly, far more cautious than Liam was.
"You did a good job, Safa," Raze said. "I think they will have to rely on you a bit more in the entire academy, but who knows, we have to see if they can all pass first, because I'm not too sure if they will be able to."
Eventually, they saw Liam slow down, and out on the grass field, there was a lone older man standing straight and tall in a light green blazer.
"Greetings, Alen said I would be expecting guests, and I'm glad you were able to get out of that situation rather quickly," the man said. "Otherwise, it would have been useless to have you join mid-term. Regardless, we shall proceed. Let's see if you all have what it takes to join Wilton Magic Academy."
