Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 110: A Cancelled Reservation
Chapter 110: A Cancelled Reservation
During the car ride to his company, Thane could feel his wife giving him the cold shoulder and found it cute.
"Brooke," he called out to her.
She made a hmm sound in response, keeping her eyes glued to the window.
"You’re the one who said I should talk to her." He reminded her.
"I know. But you should’ve told me she liked you." Brooke retorted, stunning herself with how assertive she was being.
Thane slightly raised a brow, "How did you figure that out? I don’t think I’ve told you yet."
"Woman’s intuition." She replied, her tone still salty.
Her husband reached for her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Mallory doesn’t mean any harm, she’s not the kind to go looking for trouble."
Brooke retracted her hand, "It’s not really my place to say anything Mr Grayson about your personal life. You can see other people, but please not in front of me, let’s-" halfway through her words, Thane cut her off.
"I’m sorry. I should’ve understood the situation better not to upset you." He said.
Brooke’s chest tightened, a pange of guilt weighed on her conscience. "Mr Grayson I-" her words were cut short when the car drove past the main gates of his company building.
Thane alighted the car and went to get her wheelchair. The driver tried to do it, but as usual, he insisted on being the one to do it.
Brooke kept quiet as he helped her onto the wheelchair, not saying a word to or even sparing her a glance.
"Mr Grayson-" she tried to call to him, but was interrupted when Danny and Lance came out to greet him.
"Escort my wife to the lab and run some general tests, I’ll be there soon." He said.
"Wife?!" Lance and Danny chorused.
Thane narrowed his eyes into an icy glare,"Is there a problem?"
They shook their head, not wanting to get chewed out for something so trivial.
Brooke sighed and gave up on trying to talk to him, he was clearly angry and didn’t want to speak with her.
"I’ll see you later." Thane said, then crouched down and planted a kiss on her forehead before heading towards the main building, leaving the wife feeling even more guilty.
Meanwhile, Danny took out his phone and quickly texted Jessica that their boss had gotten married.
Unfortunately, he accidentally sent it to the team’s after work group chat!
Brooke could feel all the people in the room looking at her, which made her feel that there was something wrong with what she was wearing. She nervously pushed her hair back, and wondered what it was that made them side talk the whole time she was around.
Nervous, she asked to use the bathroom, and Jessica volunteered to take her.
Outside, Jessica waited for her to finish, giving her some privacy.
Inside the bathroom, Brooke was just about finished and about to step out, when two women came inside.
"Did you hear? Mr Grayson is married!"
Brooke’s heart skipped a beat. How did they find out about that? Did Thane already announce their marriage to his employees?
"And I hear she’s not even pretty. Damn! The members at the testing lab say she’s ugly and dresses like a plain Jane." The second woman huffed, then reclined against the toilet stall Brooke was in.
The first one sighed, "Rich men always have eccentric taste, I guess. You’ll never see a handsome billionaire paired with a super model, it’s always some nobody."
"But get this, I heard that she’s disabled. You don’t think our boss married her out of pity?" The second woman proposed.
Brooke frowned, wondering why these women felt like they had any right to talk about their boss’s private life the way they did.
"Right? I mean, he was formerly engaged to Tara, why would he leave her just for someone else?"
The other woman cackled, "Come on, everyone here hates that bitch Tara, I’m kinda glad she’s gone..." Just as she said that, Jessica opened the door.
"Mrs Grayson?" She called out, when she didn’t see Brooke anywhere.
Upon seeing Jessica, both women who were only newly hired interns, stood up straight to greet her. But hearing her call for Mrs Grayson, made their chests tightened.
The second woman gulped nervously, "What do you mean by-"
She got her answer when Brooke wheeled out the door she had been blocking the entire time.
Both interns could feel years taken off their lives when Brooke wheeled herself towards the sink to wash her hands.
Jessica went over and helped her pour the soap over her hands. "Mrs Grayson, your husband is already at the lab, waiting to see you." Jessica went on to say, oblivious to what had been going on inside the bathroom stall.
Brooke nodded, then went with her, leaving the two women stunned out of their mind.
"Who the hell said that woman was ugly?"
"She’s looks like she could be a model or an actress!"
They cried out, cursing themselves for jeopardizing their jobs over a stupid rumour.
The tests took longer than expected, and as a result, Brooke wasn’t able to get the prosthetic leg done in a day.
"Mrs Grayson, we’ll come to the house to deliver your leg once it’s finished." Lance said, as they concluded all their tests.
"Thank you all for your hard work." She said, as Jessica helped her off the table and onto her wheelchair.
"You know, Mrs Grayson, your husband doesn’t seem to think we’re humans. Because, if he did, tell me why we’re here on a Friday night and not out having drinks." Danny announced, wearing a frown.
Lance narrowed his eyes at his brother, certain he was up to something.
Brooke blinked twice, wondering why he was telling this to her.
"Some of us work so hard we don’t have the time for dating. Hell, some people sleep in the lab into the next morning." He went on.
Jessica scolded him in a flat tone,"Danny-"
Danny stood behind her, and guided Brooke’s gaze to Thane, who had her reports in his hands. "I don’t think Mr Grayson would say no, to his wife suggesting we hold a celebratory bar party for his marriage. Now would he?" He asked, grinning from ear to ear.
Brooke shook her head, "No, I don’t want to meddle in his work life."
"Oh come on! It’s your duty as his wife to meddle." Danny insisted.
But Jessica pushed him away, "Please don’t condone his nonsense." She said at first, but ended up whispering slightly, "It wouldn’t be a total bad thing if we could get just tonight off."
Brooke bit her lip, and took another look at Thane, who hadn’t even said a word to her ever since the quarrel in the car.
She found it odd how they only started having these spats after they got married.
"I-I’ll try." She said, her voice shaky.
"Really?" All three chorused.
It was unheard of, to see someone try to change their boss’s mind when it came to work. The man was meticulous to a fault and followed a strict routine.
Even now, he planned to send his wife back then return to the company to finish his work.
"Um, I’ll do my best, but no promises." Brooke said, completely ready to get scolded at for bringing up the idea.
Meanwhile, Thane had been wracking his brain, trying to cook up a way to make up with his wife.
Her words from earlier came as a huge shock to him. He never expected her to think that he was the sort of man who would try to sleep with other women while they were married.
Even if they weren’t married, he still would never sleep outside, he had never once done it and would never do it.
But more than that, he feared that she would want an open marriage, and want to see other men while with him.
As she wheeled over to him, he quickly turned off his screen, hiding the dinner reservations he just made.
"Are you done with the final exams?" He asked, keeping his tone flat.
While at the back of his mind, he panicked over finding the perfect way to ask her out.
She was his wife, but he still felt nervous asking her to dinner.
"Yes, I’m in the clear."
"Good. You can have them escort you to the car. I’ll take some reports with me to study on the way." He told her, lying.
He wanted some extra moments to gather his courage to ask her out.
"Mr Grayson, about earlier in the car, it was my fault, I’m sorry. Even though I was the one who asked you to talk with Mallory, I got angry over nothing." She apologized.
Unaware that Thane did not care about that. If anything, seeing his wife jealous was a major turn on for him.
What he didn’t like was her thinking they weren’t an exclusive couple.
"I’m not angry Brooke. In fact, I think we should go out tonight-" he reached for his phone, unable to hide his smile.
"Yes! You’re absolutely right."
Thane smiled fully, thanking his stars for making everything so easy. "I was thinking-" his words were drowned out by his wife’s excited voice.
"Great! We can invite Jessica and the others too right?" She suggested.
Thane widened his eyes, "Why would they come along?"
Brooke smiled, "They worked hard on my tests today, so I want to do something nice for them. Please, Mr Grayson."
Thane sighed and cancelled the reservation on his phone. "Alright."
"Thank you sir!" She chirped, lively.
"So," he reclined against the table and folded his arms, "Where did you have in mind?"
Brooke nervously scratched the back of her head, when she said, "A bar."
