Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 111: A Bitter Serving Table
Chapter 111: A Bitter Serving Table
*Grayson Estate*
Matthew frowned when he noticed his name plaque placed next to Desmond’s on the dining table. He looked around at the shuffling and noticed that both seats next to his grandfather were left vacant.
Something he found odd.
"Watch it!" Desmond hollered, as he bumped shoulders with Matthew, to advance to the table. They were the first ones to arrive, aside Mallory, who sat on Matthew’s left hand side.
Matthew groaned at the thought of sitting in between the two people he hated the most.
"Ugh." Desmond groaned picking up a fork, he pointed it at Matthew and went on, "I don’t understand why grandmother had me sit next to the dirty blood of the family." He reached for Matthew’s name plaque, but his cousin grabbed him by the wrist.
"If you hate the idea so much, take it up with grandmother. Or are you too afraid to do so?" He goaded.
Desmond retraced his hand when he noticed his mother and grandmother arrive, he slapped a polite smile onto his face and said through his teeth, "Don’t get too comfortable in that chair." he threatened, arranging his table.
Matthew rolled his eyes, already tired of the long night. He turned to Mallory, who had her nose buried in her green book. He was tempted to slap the book away, but resisted the urge to do that.
"Good evening grandmother." Both Matthew and Desmond greeted.
Sophia levelled her sights on Mallory, who did not say a word, or even made a move to acknowledge her presence. She scanned her from head to torso and scoffed at how plain she looked.
Next, she averted her gaze to Matthew, "Your mother isn’t here yet? How...typical."
Matthew kept his smile, "She’s in father’s study-"
"I’ve already told Rosalind countless times to focus on what’s important, on what she’s expected to fulfill as a daughter in law of this family." Sophia lectured while taking her seat.
"Grandmother, she’s only-"
Rosalind raised her palm, cutting him off. "Your mother might’ve been the owner of some no name company in her youth, but those days are long gone. She should know that as a wife of this family, the business is none of her concern..." Sophia was saying, until Sloane and her husband Rowan arrived.
Rowan marched over to his mother and kissed her forehead, "Good evening mother."
Sophia smiled, "It’s been forever since I last saw you son. If only someone didn’t corrupt you into moving out of the house."
Sloane’s smile twitched, "Mother," the word was said with great indignation, "You know that I don’t mix well with large crowds."
"Then you should’ve moved, I don’t know why you had to take my precious son and grandchildren with you." She spat at her. Looking at the entrance she made a face, "Speaking of which, where are they?" ƒreewebɳovel.com
Rowan sat next to his mother on the right side of the table, while Sloane sat on the left, next to Mallory, as per Sophia’s seating arrangements.
Laura passed a smile at Sloane, but the woman completely ignored her greeting.
"They weren’t able to come, Maverick’s busy at the hospital, and Anna’s at an architecture workshop." Rowan responded.
Sophia’s lips furled into a frown. "You see why I was against Anna going to college? She can’t even make time for the important things. This is why she should’ve been home schooled."
From the corner of her eye, Mallory caught Sloane ball her fingers into tight fists.
"Mother, we’ve already discussed this before. It’s good for Anna to socialize with people her age and learn good people skills." Sloane pointed out.
In a harsh tone Sophia refuted, "That’s what she has you at home for, to teach her these things. Though, I doubt she can pick up any good skills from a mother like you."
Desmond chuckled, worsening the mood at the table.
Sloane chuckled dryly, "Well, even if you think I’m not a good enough mother, I have two very successful children." She turned to Laura, while she spoke. "Maverick is the CEO of our family’s hospital, and Anna is set to graduate top of her class. At least, I don’t have to marry my son off to a woman ten years older-"
Rowan interjected sharply, "Sloane, that’s enough."
"Oh? I didn’t realize you were at this table, you should’ve said something earlier." She clapped back.
Rowan’s eyes fell to the bottles of red wine lined up, and his throat began to dry up. He reached for the glass in front of him, but was cut off when William and his father, Edward, arrived at the table, dressed in grey suits.
Edward sat at the other available seat next to his mother, while William sat next at Desmond’s other side. Coincidentally, Malcolm and Rosalind arrived together. Rosalind sat next to Sloane, both women refusing to even look at each other. While, Malcolm sat next to William, directly opposite Edward.
The only unaccounted for empty seats, were Cressida’s and the ones at both sides of the head of the table, where the old man would sit.
Edward turned his head and caught Sloane’s gaze, his eyes widened, and he lips parted as if to speak, but Sloane pulled out her phone and stared at the screen. Edward immediately turned to his mother, equally ignoring her.
"Mother, why am I not seating at my usual seat? Why the sudden change in arrangement?" He asked under his breath.
"Son, I’m unsure. Your father just asked me to keep those seats open, I believe we might have guests coming over." She whispered back to him, although a part of her was on edge.
She knew her husband wouldn’t have Thane not sit next to him, especially after not seeing him for a long time. It was the other extra seat that worried her.
’Don’t tell me he’s going to accept that woman?’ Sophia dreaded the thought so much it gave her goosebumps.
But her thoughts were made to wait, when her husband, accompanied by his personal attendants finally arrived at the table. Everyone immediately got on their feet, as he walked through the hall towards the head of the table.
Once he sat down, he waved his hand, permitting everyone else to sit down.
Zachiel, the head of the Grayson family inhaled sharply, before he made the announcement...
