Chapter 113: A Frustrated Woman

Avery ran up to the front door the moment Jen came out of it, holding two cups of coffee and Ethan’s dry cleaned clothes in her arms. She reached to take the coffee off her hands, but Jen quickly dodged her help.

"Hey, I haven’t heard back from you since last night. I was getting worried." Avery said, walking alongside her towards the elevator.

Jen kept her head low, and continued walking, completely ignoring Avery.

"Hey, Jen, I’m talking to you, what’s wrong?" Avery reached for her shoulder, but Jen shook off her touch and kept going.

Their little exchange drew in some glances in their direction from the other employees, who were all stunned to see Jen covered completely from head to toe in black. She even had on a face mask and dark shades.

Standing in front of her, Avery confronted her, "What is going on with you, Jen?!" Avery spat out, blocking her path.

Jen stopped and in a low tone she groaned, "Get out of my way." free𝑤ebnovel.com

Avery lowered her tone and gently approached Jen, "I’m sorry, but I just want to make sure that you’re okay." She reached for her shoulder, but Jen forcefully shook her hand off.

Avery’s hand mindlessly grazed one side of the face mask, shifting it down enough to expose a purple bruising.

Avery gasped, "Jen, what is..." her words were cut off by the sound of the elevator ding, followed swiftly by the sound of calculated footsteps.

In less than a minute, the floor was filled with employees, allowing Jen to blend in with the crowd and escape into the elevator.

Appalled by the sight she saw, Avery dashed to her desk and swiped her phone and company ID card.

Her coworker peered over her desk, "What was that all about?"

"Nothing." Avery replied in a stiff tone, still very shaken up form what she saw. She had suspected that Jen was being sexually harassed by Mr Halton.

"And where are you headed looking like you’re out to slaughter?" Her co-worker inquired.

"To HR."

For the first minute, everyone waited for the Zachiel to say something, about the two empty seats, and about Thane’s sudden marriage declaration.

"I-"

"Sorry! Sorry I’m late!" Cressida’s loud voice drowned out her father’s statement. Everyone turned their attention to the woman, who was still in the dress from last night.

Her mascara was smudged all over her upper face, and her neck down to her cleavage was covered in hickeys.

She pulled the seat next to Rowan and tried to sit down, but the maids standing behind them apprehended her by the arms and forced her to stand.

"Rowan," she called out, sounding somewhat drunk. "Tell these bitches to get off me. I’ll really slug their faces into this heavy ass table."

"Cressida!" Sophia snapped at her, "You know the rules, no one sits after your father is seated." Her mother reminded her, her face contorted into visible disgust over seeing her only daughter acting so loose.

Cressida hissed, "Rowan, can you tell that bitch to stop talking to me? She’s already dead to me."

Sophia gritted her teeth at her daughter’s foul language, her face looked redder than a tomato. Sloane hid her smile behind her palm, reeling in another one of Cressida’s drunken episodes.

.

"Have some composure! Do you see any of your siblings act the way you do around liquor?" Sophia scolded harshly.

"I don’t know where you get this from-"

Cressida pretended to think, "Maybe I got it from you, Sophia?" She suggested. "Or...Or maybe I got it from Zachiel!"

Sophia parted her lips to speak but Edward beat her to it. "Another word Cressida and I will make you pay."

"Make me pay?!" She cackled, "You want to take something from me?!" She shrugged off the maids and pointed an angry finger at her brother, her eyes flaming with anger.

"You’ve already taken everything away from me! So what else could you possibly want to take from me this time?!" She raised her voice, earning a raised brow from Mallory.

What was this drunken woman talking about? And who would’ve thought that the picture perfect Grayson family was this disfunctional?

Edward parted his lips to say something, but his father stepped into the conversation.

"The door is that way." He said.

Cressida laughed while running her fingers through her hair, "Zachiel, why? Why did you do it? Why did you have to take her away from me?!" she demanded.

But the old man didn’t say another word, he just stared at her while she self destructed, her face filled dampened with tears and sweat. In his own way, looking down at his worthless daughter.

"Fucking old man I’m talking to you!" She raged, picking Rowan’s glass of wine and smashing it to the ground.

"Cressida!" Rowan raised his voice to her, stunning his mother that he had it in him to put his sister in her place.

Little did she know what it was that triggered her son.

His wife, Sloane just couldn’t stop smiling, she feared that if someone said anything else she would really break out laughing.

Cressida laughed but her tone was miserable and lacking any humour, "Why are you all just looking at me? What?! Is there something on my face?! Well?!" She clapped her hands, but no one said a word, acting as though she were just another painting on the wall.

A subtle attraction meant to humour them when they wished.

Frustrated, she walked over the glass, not caring if she got hurt and marched furiously towards the door. But the maids held her down and forced her to stand by the entrance.

After all, there was the rule that no one was allowed to leave before the head of the family stepped out.

"Stop! Get away! No! Let me go! Let me-" She tried to fight back, but a maid and nurse arrived and injected a syringe into her arm, forcing her into submission with her ’special medication’

Mallory tried to stand up and say something, but Matthew held her by the arm. This time he was the one who made her not act out.

Mallory watched in fright as Cressida fought tooth and nail against the second shot, until she was fully tranquilized. And what made the sight even sicker, was how everyone else carried on with their meal, acting like this sort of behavior was normal.

After she was successfully handled, Sophia gestured the maids to bring her back to the table, where she was made to stand behind her seat for the rest of the evening.
