40: Chapter 40 Midnight Song_1

40 -40 Midnight Song_1

“Do you think that’s possible?

Lorraine Tower isn’t mine, can it just come whenever I call?”

“But it should have a fondness for you, right?

You should be able to see it, shouldn’t you?

Isn’t its residence public?

Go look for it!”

Feng Yuan looked at the excited Qi Chen speechlessly and said

“What are you talking about, silly?

Aside from the fact that I, a student, can’t just go out to sea, even if I could, how many people can find Mist Island?

You must be joking.”

“So what do you plan to do now?”

“For now, I’ll just keep it, and it’s best to start with researching its information.

Unknown Spirit Beasts are the most troublesome.”

Feng Yuan carefully placed it on his shoulder and, seeing that it could sit on his shoulder without falling, he breathed a sigh of relief.

The Dreaming Dragon Baby curiously hovered around it, occasionally extending a claw to touch the other, and finding no reaction, the Dreaming Dragon Baby yawned and ran to Feng Yuan’s other shoulder to continue sleeping.

“Ji!”

“Xiao Ji, you’re awake?”

“Ji!!!”

“Ouch!!!

Why are you pecking me again!”

“Ji!”

Seeing Xiao Ji angrily staring at the unknown Spirit Beast on his shoulder, Feng Yuan quickly knelt down to console Xiao Ji, and it took a long while for Xiao Ji to calm down.

Looking at the expressionless Spirit Beast on Feng Yuan’s shoulder, Xiao Ji jumped into Feng Yuan’s arms trying to communicate with the Spirit Beast.

After several failed attempts, Xiao Ji ignored it and climbed on top of Feng Yuan’s head.

Then Feng Yuan asked Qi Chen,

“Did you finish gathering the information on your end?”

“Yeah, what about you?

Need any help?”

“Err…

it seems you can’t help…”

“How so?”

Feng Yuan, with a puzzled Qi Chen, returned to where he had placed his books, and seeing the pile of books that was taller than himself, Qi Chen said in surprise,

“It can’t be that all of these are it!”

“Each one has a bit, I need to transcribe it slowly.

This is only one-third; I’ve already processed a batch before.

Once this batch is done, there’s one more to go.”

“You’ve worked hard…”

Looking at the pile of books, Qi Chen didn’t know what to say.

He watched Feng Yuan take photos of specific content in the books with his phone.

Curiously, Qi Chen picked up a book that Feng Yuan had already photographed and set aside, flipping through it for a while.

He found the dense information and data made his head swirl.

“You’re really amazing…”

After closing the book and putting it back in its place, Qi Chen said admiringly, while Feng Yuan continued taking photos and said proudly,

“Only now you realize?~”

Seeing Feng Yuan place the last book back, Qi Chen said to him,

“You’ve worked hard, come over to my place for dinner.”

“Okay, and I can use your computer to process the data too.”

Walking out of the library and looking at the starry sky, Feng Yuan murmured,

“The starry sky is so beautiful~”

“Gina~”

Feng Yuan, surprised, turned his head to look at the unknown Spirit Beast on his shoulder, finding it captivated by the starry sky.

He tried to communicate with it, but still failed, and so he decided to just ignore it.

“Auntie, hello~”

“You’re back?

Come and eat~”

“Okay~”

After dinner, Feng Yuan slipped into Qi Chen’s room like it was nothing and casually turned on his computer, connecting his phone to the computer.

While the computer was starting up, Feng Yuan looked around and said enviously,

“It must be nice to have a home…”

Just as Feng Yuan had processed a good portion of the data, Qi Chen came in and said to him,

“Stay at my place tonight, don’t go back.”

“What’s up?”

“It’s already past eleven, too late.”

After thinking for a moment, Feng Yuan said,

“Alright, I’ll continue with the data processing tomorrow morning.”

“What was Teacher Chu thinking?

Why are there so many data?”

“Who knows.”

Feng Yuan said nonchalantly, saved the data, and put away his phone.

He skillfully took out clothes he had left there and, holding the quilt, headed for the living room, where Qi Chen suggested,

“How about you sleep in my bed, and I’ll sleep on the sofa tonight?”

“No need, I think the sofa is pretty good.”

“Ji?”

That night, Feng Yuan curled up on the sofa with Xiao Ji, covered by a quilt, while an unknown Spirit Beast sat by the window, staring blankly at the starry sky.

“Hmm…

What’s with Xiao Ji?”

Feng Yuan was awoken by the movements of Xiao Ji wriggling to get out from his embrace.

He rubbed his eyes, confused, and had just sat up when he heard a serene and distant song beside him.

Although Feng Yuan couldn’t understand the lyrics, he felt the profound guilt contained in the song.

Realizing it was the unknown Spirit Beast singing by the window, Feng Yuan got up and walked over.

The creature seemed lost in thought and didn’t notice Feng Yuan’s approach.

“Ji?”

Hearing Feng Yuan standing by the window, singing a tune it didn’t understand, Xiao Ji energetically leaped toward him.

Feng Yuan caught Xiao Ji and held it in his arms, while they listened to the singing of a man and a Spirit Beast.

Xiao Ji rubbed its fluffy head against Feng Yuan, trying to comfort him.

“Gina?”

The unknown Spirit Beast suddenly woke up and, hearing Feng Yuan’s singing voice, looked at him with confusion.

It stretched out its little hand, about to reach for Feng Yuan but then, as if remembering something, hastily stepped back, perhaps too abruptly, and tripped over the windowsill.

The Dreaming Dragon Baby, still groggy, floated over and used its tail to help the beast back up.

It looked at the Dreaming Dragon Baby with gratitude but then, as if startled, stepped back again, distancing itself from the Dreaming Dragon Baby.

“Ao?”

“…

Gina…”

It sat down, burying its head in its arms.

Xiao Ji, sensing activity, rubbed against Feng Yuan, thought for a moment, then jumped out of Feng Yuan’s arms to sit next to the beast, gently calling out to it.

Smack!

“Ouch!

Who hit me?”

Suddenly hit in the back by something, Feng Yuan cursed loudly.

Then he heard Qi Chen’s dissatisfied voice from behind,

“What are you doing up singing songs in the middle of the night, bothering other people?”

Feng Yuan scratched his head, picked up the pillow from the ground, and handed it back to Qi Chen with an embarrassed look,

“Sorry, sorry, I just got carried away…”

“Really, you can’t just settle down at night…”

Qi Chen took the pillow, yawning and turning around, and as he was about to enter his room, he turned to Feng Yuan and said,

“If you’re uncomfortable living at school, you can come here.

Just think of this as your own home.”

Seeing Qi Chen’s serious expression, Feng Yuan laughed and replied,

“Got it~”

“You should get some sleep soon.

We still have to organize data tomorrow.”

After speaking, Qi Chen returned to his room.

Feng Yuan lay by the window, whispering something as he gazed at the starry sky.

Xiao Ji walked over to Feng Yuan’s hand and rubbed its head against his arm.

The unknown Spirit Beast looked at Feng Yuan sheepishly and then turned around, stared at the starry sky in a daze.

The Dreaming Dragon Baby floated to Feng Yuan’s shoulder and gently patted his back with its tail as if to comfort him.

“Nagna~”

“Gina?”

“Ji~”

The next day, Feng Yuan was busy organizing data on Qi Chen’s computer.

Xiao Ji sat obediently on Qi Chen’s bed, while the unknown Spirit Beast sat quietly beside it.

A colorful orb floated in through the window.

Xiao Ji enthusiastically greeted Nagna, who circled the unknown Spirit Beast with some curiosity and then extended its small hand with a smile.

“Finally, it’s done…”

After finally finishing with the data, Feng Yuan stretched and just as he turned around, he noticed the unknown Spirit Beast chatting with Xiao Ji and Nagna.

He closed his eyes, saying quietly,

“Let’s see what you really are.”

“Did you finish organizing the data?

Hey!

Nagna?!”

“All done.

Should I send it to them, or should I print it out?”

Feng Yuan opened his eyes and, with a look of sympathy toward the unknown Spirit Beast, stepped away from the computer and spoke to Qi Chen.

Qi Chen, surprised to see Nagna, said,

“Didn’t you say it was taken away by Lorraine Tower?

How did it come back?”

“You mean Nagna?

It probably came to play with Xiao Ji.

When I finished organizing the data, I just found it here out of the blue.”

“Nagna?”

Hearing the two seemingly talking about it, Nagna turned around and looked at them curiously, tilting its head.
