Divorced and Determined: The CEO's Ex-Wife Fights for Love-Chapter 130
Chapter 130 If Grandpa and Grandma Don’t Want You, Daddy Will Take You In!
Shen Hongda thought to himself, I’m doomed. I completely messed up that compliment.
Why?
“Haha… cough, I was just thinking, how could these garlic pork ribs taste so good? It couldn’t possibly be you who made them. I know your cooking skills all too well…”
As he spoke, he realized something was off. His voice gradually trailed off until he completely shut his mouth. He gulped and reluctantly looked up, only to see his wife shooting dagger-like glares at him. His heart skipped a beat.
It’s over. I’m sleeping on the couch tonight.
Shen Muyan pursed her lips, trying to hold back her laughter. When she looked up at Lu Qin, she saw that he was also suppressing a smile. The two exchanged a glance and silently lowered their heads to focus on eating.
“Grandpa, Grandma’s cooking is really good! This potato and beef dish is delicious! I’ve already had three pieces!”
Lu Xiyao fluttered her innocent big eyes, unintentionally delivering another blow to Shen Hongda.
His eyelid twitched as he noticed Jiang Qin’s gaze growing even colder. He cast a resentful glance at his precious granddaughter, thinking, Why are you speaking such blunt truths? Now I’m definitely sleeping on the couch tonight.
Jiang Qin, on the other hand, beamed with joy at the little one’s praise.
“Right, Yao Yao? This is my favorite dish too! The beef is so tender. Here, have another piece!”
“Thank you, Grandma.”
Lu Xiyao happily munched on another bite. She really liked beef. Shen Muyan clicked her tongue, shaking her head.
Dad, even your flattery skills aren’t as good as Yao Yao’s.
Lu Qin placed two big pieces of eggplant and potatoes into Lu Xiyao’s bowl.
“Yao Yao, don’t just eat meat. Have some vegetables too.”
“Oh, okay, Daddy.”
The little one obediently ate them.
After finishing her vegetables, she reached out with her chopsticks for the last piece of garlic pork rib—only to see Shen Muyan take it first.
Seeing her disappointed expression, Lu Qin smiled and picked up the piece he had purposely saved in his own bowl, placing it into hers.
“Here, Yao Yao. Daddy saved this just for you.”
Her eyes sparkled with emotion.
“Wow! Daddy, you’re the best!”
She didn’t eat it right away, though. Instead, she glanced at the rib in Shen Muyan’s bowl and then asked, “Mommy, do you want to eat garlic pork ribs?”
Shen Muyan was surprised.
She looked at the little one’s rib and thought, My daughter rarely offers me food. This is touching.
She shook her head.
“Mommy doesn’t want it. You eat it, Yao Yao.”
“Okay! Thanks, Mommy!”
And then—
The little one reached out with her chopsticks, took the rib from Shen Muyan’s bowl, and put it into Lu Qin’s bowl.
“Daddy, this is for you. Now we each have one. Mommy said she didn’t want it.”
Shen Muyan: “…???”
Her fingers twitched.
This little rascal is really testing my patience these days! She’s dancing on the edge of a forehead flick!
She seriously wondered if this child was really her biological daughter. Did she have any love for her mother?
Oh, wait—earlier at lunch, she did give her that one piece of green pepper she didn’t like.
Thinking about that, Shen Muyan felt a bit sour. Now she had no pork ribs. She silently glanced at her daughter, her eyes sending tiny daggers her way.
Shen Hongda and Jiang Qin saw this and exchanged knowing smiles. The father-daughter bond between Lu Qin and Yao Yao was truly strong.
As for Shen Muyan? Oh well.
She noticed the way her parents were smiling and felt even more bitter.
After dinner, everyone sat in the living room, watching Detective Conan, with a fruit platter on the coffee table. Lu Xiyao picked up a piece of dragon fruit with her fork. First, she fed a bite to Lu Qin. Then she picked another piece and ate it herself.
Shen Hongda sipped his tea and asked Lu Qin,
“Are you going to set up your stall tonight?”
“I try to go whenever I can. I have a lot of regular customers now. Every time I set up, they’re the first ones there.”
Shen Hongda nodded.
To take a street food business this far is impressive. That’s the ceiling of the industry. He had previously asked Chen Dahai to find Lu Qin a stable job, but now he realized it was completely unnecessary.
Jiang Qin looked at Lu Qin, her eyes full of pride.
“Yao Yao, your daddy is truly outstanding!”
The little one immediately nodded.
“Of course, Grandma! No doubt about it!”
Time to Leave
After sitting in the living room for half an hour, Lu Qin stood up to leave with the little one.
“Grandpa, Grandma, Mommy, I’m going home with Daddy now. Later, I have to help as his little boss!”
“Lu Qin, drive carefully,” Jiang Qin and Shen Hongda reminded, looking reluctant to see them go.
“Okay. I’ll visit you both again soon.”
Lu Qin bid them farewell and turned to Shen Muyan.
“I’m leaving.”
“Mm,” Shen Muyan said.
Shen Hongda was displeased with that casual Mm.
Ungrateful child!
Jiang Qin pushed her daughter towards the door.
“Yan Yan, go walk Lu Qin out.”
Then, with a bam, she shut the door behind her.
Shen Muyan: “…???”
Lu Qin’s car was parked just a few steps away.
Why did she need to escort him?
And—she didn’t have her house keys!
“There’s no need to walk me out. Go back inside.”
“Mm, don’t stay out too late setting up the stall. Get some rest.”
She turned to press the doorbell.
A few seconds passed—no response.
“?”
She pressed again.
Still no response.
Shen Muyan: “…?”
She took out her phone and called Jiang Qin. The call was declined. She called Shen Hongda. Also declined.
“I… what the hell?”
She was speechless.
What are those two old folks up to?
“Mommy, did Grandpa and Grandma abandon you?”
Lu Xiyao asked excitedly.
Shen Muyan looked at her.
This little one—does your father know how hurtful your words can be?
“Mommy, don’t worry. If Grandpa and Grandma don’t want you, Daddy will take you in.”
Then she turned to Lu Qin, blinking her big adorable eyes.
Am I not the cutest little thing ever?
Lu Qin chuckled.
“Alright, then you’ll sleep with Mommy tonight.”
“Excuse me.”
Shen Muyan climbed into the passenger seat. Meanwhile, the little one sat in the back, playing on her tablet. Lu Qin drove them back to his rental.
“You two rest. I’m going to prepare the food for the stall.”
He placed a pitcher of lemon water on the coffee table. Shen Muyan hesitated for a moment, then stood up, her gaze firm. She was dressed in casual home attire—a beige cotton T-shirt paired with khaki casual slacks. Her long, slender legs were elegantly crossed.
Her outfit was loose-fitting, yet it still highlighted her graceful figure. Her cool, stunning face, combined with a simple high ponytail, made her look both elegant and slightly youthful.
“I’ll help you.”
The little one quickly turned off the TV and ran over.
“I’ll help too! I’m a diligent vegetable washer!”
Lu Qin nodded and accepted their help.
With helpers, he could save some time. He handed a bowl of mung beans to the little one.
“Wash them five times. They may look clean, but they’re actually quite dirty.”
He assigned Shen Muyan to prepare the shrimp.
“Trim the whiskers and legs first, then remove the vein before peeling the meat.”
He demonstrated once, then observed her do it.
After confirming she was fine, he moved on to kneading the dough.
“Be careful not to cut yourself.”
“Mm, got it.”
And so—
The three of them busied themselves in the kitchen together.
