Extra's Path To Demon King-Chapter 53: Mind Rune
Chapter 53: Mind Rune
The spy from the other tower noted down these peculiar details, It seems this new disciple of the vice tower master of the runic tower was not so simple. The spy also noted down all the individual’s relationships with Axel, like the detective, his assistant, and his little brother, the one named Akon.
The spy continued to observe Axel silently. While the man in question was solely focused on his little brother. Axel continued to keep his little brother in rest for another week. Axel even fed him the lowest quality potions. So, in just a week, Akon’s state turned completely healthy.
The little kid now looked like a very healthy 6-year-old, as if he had never had cancer or been in a coma for more than half a year. Axel with his little brother went outside. Detective Malric walked behind him while keeping a distance. Axel decided to take his little brother to visit all the places where the rich kids or nobles would go to play. freewebnσvel.cøm
Walking on the road, on the side, in a narrow alleyway. From dirty parts, the orphan that Axel had treated beforehand was standing, the kid even younger than Akon, with no one else in the world, and fated to die. The cheerful kid looked at his big brother, who treated him kindly from afar, while holding another kid of his age.
The orphan, seeing both Axel and his little brother laughing happily, while heading towards a playground for the rich noble kids, smiled happily amidst his sadness. Detective Malric from afar saw that scene. The Detective’s gaze alternated between Axel and the Orphan, memories resurfaced on him. Not long ago, Axel himself was in a similar state.
Yet, now there was another kid like him, but there was a difference. While Axel had someone to take care of, someone to lose. The kid had no one, he was all alone. With no one to help. The detective sighed as he shook his head and followed behind Axel and his little brother.
Time passed, and Akon enjoyed all the things the city of Delmar had to offer. While not needing to worry about money. Initially, Akon did not want to visit any of those places; not long ago, they were living in slums. So, it was hard for his little mind to comprehend such a big change.
But under the reassurance of his older brother, he accepted it. The next day, with nothing more to do here. Axel, with his little brother, went to the Runic Tower’s territory, bidding farewell to the detective and his old assistant. His little brother was absolutely shocked, as his little eyes saw everything in a wondrous sense.
The little kid felt like he was dreaming, seeing the sheer difference in the people, the structures, and various magic vehicles flying through the skies. Then, the magnificent rune tower, the kid couldn’t speak. While Axel laughed, seeing that, he enjoyed it.
Being able to take his little brother to all those places in the city, seeing Akon playing happily without a care in the world. Then, in the rune magic city, seeing the dumbfounded expressions on his kid brother, a sense of pride swelled up in his chest.
Axel looked towards the blue sky as he thought about his deceased mother, and a small but hopeful smile appeared on his face. He thought to himself, ’Mother, I have turned things around. I’m close, very close. Though there isn’t a cure available yet. I will definitely cure him.’
’I will keep my promise,’ he declared internally.
Axel introduced his little brother Akon to old librarian Leroy, and the old man treated him quite kindly. He even gave his little brother a safety artifact and potions as gifts. The old man suggested, "Why don’t you admit your little brother to a school here?"
"I mean a normal school, that is, the kid can study there for a few years while you focus on creating the cure and getting stronger. It won’t be good for the kid to be locked up in your apartment and doing nothing all day."
"If you can find a cure later on, we’ll test and see if he’s good enough to be a mage or not," added the old librarian.
Axel had a thoughtful expression, and what the old man suggested was not bad. It would not be wise to simply keep his little brother sitting. Though he could probably hire a normal human as a teacher who would personally teach him. Maybe admitting him to a school would be better. Akon would be able to make some friends.
He nodded to the old man and took Akon with him, through a different passage, and he directly entered his apartment. It was a private staircase that his master prepared for him. Because Akon would not be allowed to enter the tower through normal means. It would create more complications, or he would have to publicly reveal his status as the disciple of the vice tower master.
His little brother was again baffled by the interior world of the tower. For there to be a boundless sky inside the tower, and the floor and platform to be floating structures. And the rotating staircase seemed utterly endless.
He entered his apartment and settled Akon in a different room. While the old librarian told him that he would relay the information about the schools that would be suitable for Akon. As for the reason why his little brother was not tested on whether or not he would become a mage or a warrior is that the cancer would become worse. There is a possibility that he would die before being able to become a mage or a warrior of proper strength.
Axel also started his own training. His rune engraving room and experiment room have been modified in a way that even if there are explosions, the sounds would not leak out. If every time, Akon heard explosions. His little brother would be too worried about him constantly. He didn’t want that.
Bringing out a well-made sword. He placed it on the table. Now it was time for his next part of the training. To become a Rank 1 Acolyte, one needed to memorize 24 of the basic runic symbols.
To become a Rank 2 Acolyte, one needed to master writing at least 10 different symbols properly. But Axel had mastered all 24.
To become a 1st circle Runic Mage, one needed to engrave and master at least 5 different runic symbols, make 5 usable weapons. But Axel would obviously not follow the predetermined path.
The sword laid on the table was not just a normal sword, either, but a well-crafted weapon, made of special materials. Normal materials aren’t strong enough to handle his liquid mana. He envisioned the first symbol he would engrave and started the process; his liquid mana would be used as ink, and instead of mana paper, the symbols would be engraved on the sword.
By the time half of the symbol had formed. A loud explosion occurred. The material of the sword was destroyed in its entirety. Chunks of metal flew away and pierced Axel’s skin. But to his surprise, the metals were unable to pierce too deeply into his skin.
Axel gritted his teeth and pulled out all the chunks of metal that pierced him, and drank a potion. To his surprise, his body only healed up in just 10 minutes. And it wasn’t because of the potion; rather, the innate resilience and vigor of his body seemed to be extremely high, likely because of the magic circuit.
Time passed, and one after another, explosions continued to occur. Axel himself got good at dodging the destroyed fragments of the weapons whenever an explosion was about to occur. Only on his 40th try did he first succeed.
To his surprise, the first rune he was able to permanently engrave on the sword was actually the rune of ’Mind’. The sword, which looked mundane beforehand, now had the glowing rune on it. Mana itself was behaving strangely as long as it came in contact with the sword.
Axel held the sword in his grasp. He flowed his liquid mana into the sword, and there was a subtle change in him. He found his mind slightly clearer than before, he felt focused. But that was probably not all the sword could do. He actually created the sword while using some of his killing intent and destructive thoughts. Some of the bad experiences of his life as Ashborn.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t test its effects without having someone to fight in a real battle. So, he continued to try and engrave the same rune on another raw weapon. With a mix of failure and success in a chaotic manner. After many tries, he had mastered the ’Mind’ rune.
Axel moved on to the next one. He had an inkling that the rune ’emotion’ should be the one he should try. So, he doubled down on the effort of making it. Unsurprisingly, he actually failed more times on the second one. With every small injury he suffered from the explosions, his body somehow grew stronger and more resilient.
With a total of 50 failures in the next day, he successfully engraved the rune of ’emotion’. Holding the sword, he was able to perfectly control his own emotions. It was somehow similar to the effect of the ’Mind’ rune engraved on the other sword, yet different.
