Chapter 68: The Greatest Transgression...

After the team competition of the 3rd circle category was over, news travelled faster than light, a genius was born, an unmatched genius. Who was able to take down all the teams of the other towers all alone, even the Sages team was no exception.

They were absolutely demolished, and all that with mostly his killing intent. People heard far and wide that the genius didn’t even reveal half of his abilities. Most people who were far away, dismissed those notions as exaggerated rumor’s. The audience went utterly crazy that day, mages of various paths, warriors and normal human’s. All thunderously echoed one name unanimously, "Ashborn".

Many spread stories about how he grew up in the slums and was once a poor beggar, but the vice master of the Rune Tower found him and groomed him since he was a child. Many more stories spun around everywhere. But the real story behind him was obviously well hidden, rarely few people knew about it. Well, no one would correlate the ’Ash’ with the current ’Ashborn’.

The other towers seeing his overwhelming power became somewhat worried about the future. The hierarchy of power might change very soon in the future when this genius takes over the Rune tower as its next master.

Even Axel’s fellow disciples had their eyes open in shock, how could there be such a thing in the world. Countless warriors that came to enjoy the show found themselves utterly fascinated by the prodigy of the rune tower, the reason being his fighting style.

He fought less like a mage and more like a warrior with swords, and that killing intent of his had enamored the wills of numerous powerful warriors, all of them wanted to challenge him to a duel, to uncover the secrets of such majestic and pure bloodlust. They wondered just how many people the boy killed or exactly what he went through to have such a strong willed in his bloodlust.

Meanwhile the various powerhouses all had pensive expression on their faces, some could not help but hide their sourness. It wasn’t good for them. If one researched the history of the mages and their most illustrious geniuses, the highest number of notable geniuses would by far be from the Runic magic path.

The brightest genius and most powerful in history was obviously ’Durein Nightcrown’, with no competition whatsoever. Though considering Ashborn barely revealed any of his power. Upon revelation, he might easily be placed in the top 5 of all the great geniuses in history.

The Elemental tower’s vice master scowled, "This better not be a goddamn, secret human experiment of yours, Cedric."

Cedric responded uninterestingly, "Oh please, you know it is not."

The Arcane powerhouse interjected, "Why can’t we peer through the boy?"

The Sage raised his eyebrow, many others were also interested in the answer to that very question. Cedric looked at everyone and answered, "Because he is not trying to hide anything. He’s simply showing you less."

That answer did not satisfy most of them, but none asked anything further.

"Oh, one more thing, my disciple shall be participating in both the 4th circle and 5th circle categories in the Rune team," announced Cedric as if dropping a bombshell.

The Berserker laughed heartily, while the others showed visibly shocked expressions.

The Berserker stated, "So, he was indeed the ace you were hiding."

Meanwhile, the Sage asked seriously, "I don’t know how much the boy is hiding, but it would be a wonder if you’re so-called genius could fight toe to toe with a 4th circle mage. But if you’re suggesting the boy can fight a 5th circle mage, then I’m afraid there must be something wrong in your head."

The other tower masters also had a mocking look on their faces. Cedric smiled and said,

"I never said anything like that, though, but I suppose we shall see what happens."

The next day, it was time for the team competition of the 4th circle category. The audience’s area was even more jam-packed; there wasn’t even an inch of space left, even though the authorities had enlarged the area multiple times. That was because there was a large, juicy piece of news.

The genius 3rd circle mage who utterly demolished every single one, in the team battle format, is said to join the 4th category’s team fight. Many initially did not believe it, after all, the gap between each circle was immense. Not to mention the gap between the 3rd and 4th circle.

However, the authorities had confirmed the piece of news; most believed the ’Ace of the Rune tower’ was in over his head, not knowing his place. They were waiting for the genius to get a thrashing of his own. Some speculated that he was actually a 4th circle mage from the start, hiding his powers, perhaps.

In the end, no one cared about the wild speculations, especially the man in question. Axel was readying himself in the private rooms of the arena. Well, for him, there wasn’t really anything that needed to be ready, so it was more of a metaphorical preparation just for the sake of it. Akon, the librarian, and all of his friends were there; they were all staring at him, and their stare was becoming a bit too much, actually.

He sighed and said, "Come on, am I really that handsome. "

Emma blushed at that statement, while others coughed in embarrassment. While Akon said cheerfully, "Of course, brother, you’re so strong and um,...yes and handsome. At least that’s what the girls in my class say all the time."

Axel’s eyebrow twitched. The librarian shot him a strange look, and so did his friends. Axel’s eyebrow twitched; he wasn’t going around seducing toddlers. But Jason said something to dispel the awkward atmosphere, "Who knew you bastard were actually so damn strong, no wonder you were so confident in making that bet. But I’m still skeptical about you joining the 4th circle’s team fight."

Osborn remarked, pointing his hand towards the two siblings, "These two got all of their spotlight stolen by you as well."

Emma and Ezekiel became enraged at that remark, it looked like they were about to beat Osborn up. But Axel warned, "I suppose you guys should buckle your seats for today, try not to be too surprised." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Old man Leroy had a blank expression on his face. Axel mocked seeing that,

"Old man, did your soul leave your body or something? You don’t show any surprised expressions these days?"

Axel’s friends became curious at that statement, but the librarian shook his head and looked at Axel’s friends with a trace of pity. He said to Axel helplessly,

"I have already lost my ability to be surprised when it comes to you, boy."

Axel clicked his tongue and did not say anything else. He ruffled Akon’s hair a bit, then left to join the 4th circle runecaster’s team. While Axel’s friends, his brother and the librarian, also went out towards their booked seats in the vip section. The normal section had become too crowded and noisy for them to enjoy the competition, thus the shift in the sitting positions.

Axel met his team, and all the 4th circle mages looked at him curiously, but there was apparent doubt in their eyes, despite seeing his strength with their own eyes yesterday. They were doubtful of his ability to confront 4th circle beings. Axel found ’Xavier’ in there, but the latter seemed to be avoiding his gaze fearfully.

Eventually, one of them came forward, a peak 4th circle Runecaster. he introduced himself politely, "Hello, I am Eric. It is an honor to meet the Ace of the Rune tower."

Axel winced slightly, "I hope you don’t keep calling me by that name, or anyone if possible."

Eric laughed at that comment and said, "To be honest we are not sure how strong you are but I hope we can fight co-operatively if you don’t mind."

All the 4th circle mages came forward and introduced themselves one by one, though they were all doubtful, none had any ill intent towards him; in fact, they were all quite nice and respected him to some degree as well. Axel also heaved a sigh of relief, for not needing to deal with any troublesome characters, and he could apologize internally towards Eric and his teammates for what he was about to do next.

Eric glanced towards Xavier, who did not come forward to greet Ash. he asked him the reason behind it, but it was Axel who spoke, "Oh, we already know each other. So, there’s no need for a new introduction."

Eric was somewhat curious about it, but sensing the clock ticking away, they headed out towards the arena, and an ear-deafening cheer erupted the moment Axel came into everyone’s view. It seems most of the audience simply saw him as a kind of hero, since it was the first time that in a low-ranking mage category that the Rune team had won a crushing victory instead of the eternally assured defeat.

However, something strange happened that caught everyone’s attention abruptly, and this happened just before the vast jungle could sprout into existence, which would hinder the long-distance vision of the participants.

Step! Step! Step! Step! Step!

Despite the deafening cheers of the crazy crowd, the sound of the clear footsteps reached the ears of all the audience, participants even the powerhouses, and slowly but surely, the chaotic mayhem went down at a frightening pace, only distill quietness remained.

But the steps continued, unrelenting and unwavering. Axel was stepping through the air, walking higher and higher, with his each step mana itself would materialize under his feet with a shade of blue color in it.

Everyone and everything waited in bated breaths for what reason the revered genius was stepping through the air and going upwards like that. But an entirely different view appeared in the eyes of the more experienced magicians.

The Sage powerhouse high in the sky had an ugly expression on his face. Seeing that spectacle, the arcane powerhouse stared with his mouth agape, "non-attibuted mana shaping."

Less than 5 people had that skill among all the mages in existence, no mage in the current era had that ability, but before they could marvel at that show of one of the rarest talents in existence. The voice of the genius Runecaster reached the shocked powerhouses high in the sky, "Venerated Vice-masters of various towers and warrior organizations. I have a request to make."

Everyone had already lost themselves marveling at Axel’s ability to shape attributeless mana, but it was as if the said person was set in stone to not let anyone regain their composure, then made the abrupt request towards mighty powerhouses. Which made all the participants and audience gasp alike.

The powerhouses high in the sky in their seats looked at Cedric, but the latter simply shrugged and said no more. The Berserker, without waiting for anyone, asked aloud,

"What makes you think you are qualified to make a request?"

"I do not think, but I simply, AM." declared Axel thunderously.

The smile of the berserker widened at that display of arrogance. The Sage powerhouse interjected, displeased, "It is already a great transgression for you to stop the ongoing competition and waste our time, yet you dare act so arrogantly?"

The voice of the Sage powerhouse was like a million-ton hammer that rammed into the mind of Axel, but his gaze did not falter, nor did he show any signs of a struggle.

"TRANSGRESSION? Huh!"

"My request is quite simple, my lords.."

"Allow my Rune team to face off against all the other teams at once, and I shall show you all, the greatest TRANSGRESSION against the rules that govern this world," proclaimed Axel thunderously, which rattled every single audience to their absolute core.

In response to that bold statement, three distinct powerhouses laughed out aloud: The Berserker, the warlord, and Axel’s own master. Cedric looked at the other powerhouses daringly, and they all, after some consideration, reluctantly agreed. Then his master’s voice resounded for everyone to hear perfectly.

"Alright, my disciple, you have our permission to do as you suggested. Show the world, the true power of a Runecaster," iterated Cedric Stormscribe for everyone could hear without exception.
