Chapter 71: The Leader

Hundreds of thousands of audience waited in the seats of the large arena in bated breaths, thousands of thousands of mages, thousands of humans, and countless warriors all jam-packed into one place. Their loud yells and cheers dulled out any other understandable comments given by anyone.

The authorities were having trouble handling the sheer number of people that have to spectate the rise of the greatest genius in the last thousand years. It was a spectacle no one was willing to miss. Ashborn’s fame had reached far and wide, so that even many powerhouses from afar were forced to come and verify its claims.

The authorities of the Runic tower had to ask for the other towers’ cooperation for a smoother procedure of the event, and they obliged in kind. And no one was willing to offend Rune Tower now that they were at the height of their fame and glory because of that single individual.

The commentator announced loudly, the beginning of the team fight in the 5th circle category. Followed by a blinding cheer, all the teams walked out one after another, and it seemed, unlike the previous round, there would be no jungle, but merely the open field, with some vegetation on it and some trees here and there. So, not entirely an open field for that matter.

But it was quite easy for each of the teams to spot one another nonetheless. The Rune team walked out last, and everyone’s eyes landed on one individual. Meanwhile, Axel’s friends in the audience looked intently at him, and little Akon clenched his fists in excitement. The old man was, for some reason, in a good mood, somehow.

Hehe, because old Leroy knew what’s going to be revealed today and he’s not going to be the one to get shocked, he’s gonna enjoy it thoroughly today, hopefully.

Before entering into the arena, Axel had discussed with his team members, especially his two fellow disciples Kirk and Ebony, that is. Axel stated to everyone, "Just to be clear, I would not be able to wipe the floor like yesterday. However, I can do something that would turn the tide of the battle."

"I already lost half of my soul witnessing what you did yesterday," exclaimed Kirk.

"And 5th circle Runecasters are not weak like the lower circles, we are quite strong," added Ebony.

Axel gave all nineteen 5th circle mages each a thin-looking wrist band, he revealed that they would be able to telepathically communicate with each other via those bands. As for the reason behind it, he did not explain it explicitly, he only told them he’s going to explain it when the time comes.

Axel also persuaded all the 5th circle team members to heed his commands, which they obviously did not like. 5th circle mages were the cream of the crop, extremely prideful. So, normally, a 3rd circle mage asking them to follow his orders is beyond prosperous, thankfully, Kirk and Ebony helped him out, since their master had instructed them to help out Axel in any way needed.

And understanding that their Genius junior disciple brother would not suggest anything without having a very good reason behind it, was enough for them to aid him in any way needed.

Now, back in the arena, all the other teams were unanimously staring at the Runic Team. He could see their gazes filled with arrogance, mockery, and determination. Despite showing his battle prowess yesterday, it seems they did not think that he would be able to pull off the same spectacle today.

Which was indeed the truth, to an extent. But his team members were all extremely strong this time around, so he didn’t need to handle it all alone. Only exceptional co-operation was needed. Especially, Kirk, Ebony, and two others were very strong even among the totality of the 5th circle mages.

Axel showed a smile towards all the piercing gazes of the other teams, there was a glint of ruthlessness in the eyes of the Sage teams leader and arcane team leader. He chuckled seeing that. Another wave of furious glares followed, soon the commentator announced the start of the match and Axel brought out his tri-rune defensive artifact and so did every single other member’s of his teams.

Layer upon layer upon layers of barrier formed one after another, in the shortest possible time. Almost 20 layers of powerful barriers formed and somehow combined, barely did the barriers stabilize, and what followed were catastrophic levels of attack. Each of the 5th circle mages was like a powerhouse in their own right. Thankfully, the battle section of the arena was made into a separate space, otherwise, it would be too much of a mess.

Countless attacks barged in one after another, but those were only probing attacks, the real barge of attacks would start upon the break of the barrier. But they were no sitting ducks either, they had planned to simply buy some time through the layer of barriers for the initial preparation.

Clouds of dust flew everywhere, and large craters formed. Everything around was being destroyed little by little, and the barrier was also on the verge of collapse. Inside the barrier, Axel took off the ring in his hand, which suppressed his real powers and stopped his purest mana from leaking outside.

The moment the artifact was taken off, his heavy-mountain presence spread inside the barrier, and everyone could feel it, as his team members looked at him in shock, but that was merely the beginning. His teammates did not remain idle as well. They charged their mana into the weird-looking ring, which was in all of their hands.

All of their hands started to glow as they began to draw runes in the air itself in astonishing speed, Axel charged up his mana into his magic circuit as his physical power shot through the roof, something which only the powerhouses high in the sky, and various 6th circle mages were also able to see through the aftermath of the attacks.

Axel for the first time brought out one of his swords engraved with 4 runes intertwined beautifully with each other, if one looked closely they might find some obvious flaws on it, since he still wasn’t good enough at engraving 4 runes into one sword.

The sword was imbued with the rune of ’Mind’, ’Emotion’, ’Sound’, and ’Lightning’.

Mixed with his mana and liquified killing intent, he charged the sword, a humming noise spread in the surrounding area as if the sword itself was excited to unleash its first slaughter. The power of the sword he was holding had reached a feverish pitch, Axel barely contained its power because of his firm will and exceptionally well-controlled bloodlust.

But the weapon wanted to shoot out its lightning everywhere, not wanting to contain its power. Glancing backwards, he saw that everyone was ready with their attacks, countless glowing runes of various effects were in front of everyone, while they all looked at Axel and his sword with apparent wariness.

Looking forward, he smiled, "In 3 seconds, everyone attacks."

All of them nodded, and he closed his eyes for a second, more of his potent mana flowed out of his core and flowed into his eyes. After a long, long time, the runes in his eyes reactivated, the ethereal golden patterns glowed brightly, and hummed with excitement. His eyes shot wide open as the viewpoint of the world itself changed in his eyes.

The barrier, which seemed like it would hold for a while more, suddenly dispersed. Countless powerful attacks of various natures came out from inside the barrier-protected area, many of them converged into each other, doubling or maybe tripling the strength of the attack.

Countless attacks barged onto the assailants, without a tad bit of warning, they shielded themselves quickly, but some got injured nonetheless. Those who knew, healing magic healed the injured ones. Slowly, the dust cleared and what they saw.......

A pair of blue eyes, with majestically golden runes glowing on them, appeared in their sight, soon the figure was wholly revealed, holding a shimmering red sword but before they could prepare any countermeasure or make heads and tails of the situation, Axel pointed his sword towards them, with careful control, terrifying volts of red lightning cackled and charged out towards certain directions in a chaotic manner.

Seeing through the weak points of the various mages of different towers and the gaps in their defenses, the powerful red lightning blasted through those holes and landed onto countless enemy mages. Axel specifically targeted those with healing abilities, and since they were healing others, they were obviously caught off guard.

Not only that, the sounds of the lightning itself had negative effects on the enemy mage’s emotions and mind. Axel telepathically ordered,

’Azmar, Earth wave on the left side.’

’Veylor, poison arrows on the sage team members.’

’Thressa, keep them all busy with ice spikes.’

’Corvex, spread your shadow and assist Thressa.’

’Luminar, Blinding light.’

’Nyxen, Metal spears’

’Elia, Tackle the Arcane team leader with Cancel-type attacks’

’Félix, Handle the death mages’

’Morvath, cast chaos effect on the spirit mages’ freёnovelkiss.com

’Seraph, amplify the chaos effect cast by Morvath.’

’Zyraen, Mental disturbance on the sage team’

’Orinth, memory overflow on the remaining ones.’

’Kirk, to the Sage team leader, and Ebony, to the Arcane team leader. Just keep them busy.’

And more and more commands followed to each of them, calculating perfectly about what type of attack, who should launch when, and which would yield the greatest amounts of results. Taking on most of the enemies and increasing the chaos on the battlefield. At the core of it was his eyes, which allowed him to see the unseen and command all his teammates flawlessly.
