From Rejected Fake Heiress to Desired True Love-Chapter 378: I Thought You Didn’t Need a Man
Chapter 378: Chapter 378: I Thought You Didn’t Need a Man
Da Hei seemed to have opened a floodgate and wouldn’t stop talking.
"Bro, does Yu Meng drive you crazy?" Da Hei asked earnestly.
Li Yehan was already regretting talking to Da Hei. This guy could really blabber on.
Even when Li Yehan stopped responding, Da Hei kept on with his questioning.
"Hard to talk about?" Da Hei pressed further.
Li Yehan lifted his head. "Yu Meng is great. She’s very good to me, exceptionally good."
"Looks like Yu Meng paid you handsomely. No matter how much she messes with you, you still speak up for her. Such professionalism. Is everyone on your team like this? Never badmouth the customers?"
Li Yehan: "..."
Pivoting the subject, Li Yehan started probing for information. "You hate her this much—did Yu Meng kill your entire family?"
Da Hei: "..."
"Boy, do you even know how to talk? If not, seal that mouth of yours!" Da Hei fumed with rage.
One of the lackeys doubled over laughing. "Da Hei, someone struck a nerve again, huh?"
He couldn’t help but laugh. Da Hei would rush straight into trouble himself—who else could he blame?
"You shut up too! Stop bringing up sensitive topics!" Da Hei stormed off, furious.
If it weren’t for Li Yehan still being useful, Da Hei would’ve certainly killed him by now.
Li Yehan sat on a dusty staircase, surveying the area, searching for a weapon to use.
...
Nan Qiao arrived at the rundown villa district. Cars and motorcycles parked at the gate. Two of Da Hei’s men extended their detectors, signaling her to get off the motorcycle.
Da Hei eyed Nan Qiao. "Yu Meng, brought weapons with you? Hand them over and spare yourself some pain."
Nan Qiao dismounted. "I didn’t bring any weapons. If you don’t believe me, use the detector!"
Nan Qiao walked over willingly, grabbed the detector, and began scanning herself.
After two checks, Da Hei and his men had no choice but to believe her.
Nan Qiao headed inside. "Where is he?"
Da Hei sneered. "You really care about your boy-toy, huh? Didn’t think you needed a man."
Nan Qiao shot Da Hei a glare. "Oh? Don’t tell me you don’t need women?"
Da Hei: "..."
Nan Qiao added, "Take me to see him first. If you dare play tricks, you can forget about getting Moon Space One."
Da Hei and his crew begrudgingly complied, taking her to Li Yehan.
Li Yehan was sitting on the staircase, flanked by two assassins holding guns pointed directly at him, ready to shoot anytime.
Li Yehan called out, "Honey, save me!"
Nan Qiao: "..."
Everyone else: "..."
The young man wasn’t acting manly at all.
Nan Qiao said, "I’m willing to give you Moon Space One. Release him first."
Da Hei brandished his gun, appraising Nan Qiao, and chuckled coldly, "Release him first? Yu Meng, you think you’re in any position to negotiate? You really believe you have leverage here?"
Nan Qiao smiled confidently. "Of course I do."
Everyone else: "..."
Da Hei was steaming mad. "And what leverage would that be? Moon Space One, huh? If you don’t hand it over, I’ll end him right here!"
"Honey, just go. I don’t mind dying, but you have to live!" Li Yehan shouted.
Da Hei glared at him furiously. "Shut your damn mouth! Nobody invited your opinion here!"
Li Yehan stood up angrily. "What do you mean I don’t get to speak? Wasn’t it you guys who kidnapped me and put me here? Well, now I’m talking, and I’ll keep talking!"
Li Yehan moved forward. The assassins behind him jumped in shock. They hadn’t expected this move from Li Yehan and scrambled to keep their guns trained on him.
Taking advantage of the commotion, Li Yehan reached Nan Qiao’s side.
Exchanging a glance with him, Nan Qiao spoke irritably, "I’ll take him away. Moon Space One is yours. Deal?"
Da Hei responded, "How would you give it to me?"
"It’s in my bag. If you don’t believe me, I can open it and show you."
Da Hei said, "Hand over the bag. Open it yourself first. I’m warning you—no funny business!"
Nan Qiao held her backpack, unzipped it, but didn’t open it fully.
She turned to Li Yehan beside her and said, "Step back a little. I’m worried they won’t spare you."
Li Yehan stepped back, and Nan Qiao opened the backpack, angling it toward Da Hei and his men.
She tossed the bag. White smoke erupted like fireworks, spreading everywhere in a flash.
Li Yehan grabbed Nan Qiao’s hand. "Run!"
Together, they fled as Da Hei’s crew stumbled and flailed in the thick smoke.
Li Yehan and Nan Qiao dashed outside as the killers stationed outside caught wind of the chaos.
Nan Qiao raised her right hand, launching tiny silver needles.
Li Yehan wielded a rifle, firing bullets that pierced one assassin’s forehead with pinpoint accuracy, killing him instantly.
By then, Da Hei and his men had already emerged from the building.
"Take her alive! I want Yu Meng slaughtered and her bones crushed to dust!"
Just as Da Hei roared his orders, Li Yehan fired another shot.
Da Hei narrowly dodged; the bullet grazed his temple.
"Qiaoqiao, retreat. I’ll cover you!"
Li Yehan fired wildly as Nan Qiao backed away. She was edging closer to her motorcycle.
"Kill that man for me!" Da Hei finally realized he’d been duped.
He had had someone tail Nan Qiao, spotting her meeting with Li Yehan.
Li Yehan always drove cheap cars. Seeing Nan Qiao smiling brightly at him had led Da Hei to plan this abduction scheme.
But he hadn’t expected the young man to be so capable. He had underestimated him.
Li Yehan’s gun ran out of bullets. Swiftly kicking up another gun from the ground, he let loose another wave of fire.
The roar of a motorcycle engine filled the air as Nan Qiao sped toward them.
Nan Qiao hurled a grenade, sending Da Hei and his men into a frantic scatter.
She extended her hand, and Li Yehan grabbed it, leaping onto the bike.
Nan Qiao revved the motorcycle forward as Li Yehan sat behind, facing backward and firing nonstop.
The grenade didn’t explode. Da Hei lay on the ground, consumed by frustration.
Just then, Nan Qiao sped the bike toward him.
Da Hei panicked, trying to flee, but Li Yehan shot him in the right leg, disabling any chance of escape. He grabbed a necktie, looping it around Da Hei’s head, dragging him behind the motorcycle.
Da Hei: "!!"
He wasn’t actually an ox—he didn’t want to be dragged around!
Just as Da Hei thought he was done for, Nan Qiao stopped the bike.
While Li Yehan kept watch, Nan Qiao asked, "Why do you want Moon Space One?"
Feeling like he was about to perish, Da Hei couldn’t utter a word.
Nan Qiao said, "If you don’t talk, I’ll take you for another ride."
"I’ll talk. I’ll tell you everything."
Da Hei confessed. "Someone paid us to get Moon Space One from you. I also used this chance for revenge—I just wanted to teach you a lesson."
"Who is it? Give me their contact later. I’ll ask them myself."
Moon Space One’s research was her secret project, known only to a select few.
The fact that this person knew about the experiment meant it had to be someone close to her.
