48 -48 He Never Sprays This Kind

“Secretary Land, do you think Director Quarter would be surprised if he saw you today?”

Julia Land put down her coffee and looked up at Thomas Sullivan, responding, “I don’t know.”

The man sitting across from her was the Chairman of Strong Health Technology, the eldest son of the Sullivan family, Thomas Sullivan.

Julia Land had called her driver to come pick someone up at one o’clock.

Thomas Sullivan sat in his chair, his gaze falling on Julia Land.

She wore a red bodycon dress with her white blouse unbuttoned at the top two buttons, completely different from the dignified and cool Secretary Land he had seen before.

Now, she looked like a seductive and powerful female secretary.

In just a short week at Strong Health Technology, Julia Land had done everything perfectly, making Thomas Sullivan very satisfied.

He suddenly leaned close to Julia Land and spoke near her ear, his eyebrows slightly raised, “What perfume are you wearing?

It smells really good.”

Julia Land hung up the phone, turned her head without moving away, and similarly raised an eyebrow with a smile, “Light perfume by Mr D.”

Thomas Sullivan nodded, “Buy a bottle for my girl, Little Na, and another for my cousin Chloe Sullivan.”

Little Na was the woman Thomas Sullivan kept.

Chloe Sullivan was the girl Julia Land had seen with James Thompson.

What a small world.

Julia Land noted this down.

“I’m really curious, in the years you’ve been with Noah Quarter, did you ever notice any strange hobbies of his?”

Thomas Sullivan sat back down, his curiosity almost hard to believe.

Julia Land smiled, “Didn’t you forget?

I lost my memory, but I only remember that he had a stomach condition.”

Thomas Sullivan shook his head and sighed, “Hmm, you really are devoted.”

Julia Land raised an eyebrow and smiled, then left to take care of other matters.

She ordered the perfumes, sending one bottle to Thomas Sullivan’s lover and was unsure where to send the other.

Julia Land had no choice but to call Thomas Sullivan in the office, “Where should Miss Sullivan’s perfume be sent?”

Thomas Sullivan told her to hold on, and he probably called to ask someone.

Before long, Thomas Sullivan gave her an address, and Julia Land noted it down.

Halfway through, Julia Land suddenly stopped.

She knew this address—it was Green Auspice Villa, the place James Thompson had once let her stay to recover.

**

By one o’clock in the afternoon.

Julia Land and Thomas Sullivan walked out of the company’s main entrance; it was raining outside, and the wind was quite strong.

Julia Land opened an umbrella, holding it over Thomas Sullivan, who was not only tall but also robust.

It was indeed hard work for Julia Land, a delicate woman, to hold an umbrella for him; the driver opened the car door, Thomas Sullivan got in, and Julia Land went around to the other door to get in.

The car’s air conditioning was still reasonably warm.

She relaxed her eyes and eyebrows.

After a quiet moment in the car, Julia Land took out her makeup for a touch-up.

Thomas Sullivan turned to look at her already stunning face, completely unaware of why she was still touching up her makeup.

“Secretary Land, are you hoping to present your most beautiful self to Noah Quarter?”

“Something like that,” Julia Land said lightly.

Thomas Sullivan said meaningfully, “Director Quarter is really lucky, he has both a ‘moonlight’ and a rose.”

Julia Land applied her lipstick and smiled, remaining silent.

The rose is thorny.

*

The car arrived at West Wealth Restaurant.

She had been quite connected with West Wealth Restaurant lately; last time she saw Noah Quarter play the violin for Arabella Shaw here.

West Wealth Restaurant also had private rooms, and naturally, people like Thomas Sullivan and Noah Quarter would reserve one for discussions.

Julia Land knocked and pushed the door to enter.

Several top bosses in the private room turned their gazes toward the door, eyes landing on Julia Land with a bit of surprise.

“Am I late?”

Thomas Sullivan entered first, and Julia Land followed.

Noah Quarter looked up, his fingers pinching a cigarette, his cold gaze landing on Julia Land,

Thomas Sullivan sat down and Julia Land poured him wine, then stood behind him.

“Secretary Land is always thorough; I’ve always envied Director Quarter, but now it’s his turn to envy me.”

Thomas Sullivan raised his glass, lifting it to clink with Noah Quarter’s, noticing Noah Quarter’s glass was still empty, he gestured with his index finger, “Secretary Land, could you pour a glass for Director Quarter?”

Julia Land smiled and nodded, walking over to Noah Quarter to bend down and pour him wine.

Noah Quarter said coldly, “Thank you.”

He lifted his glass, shook it slightly, and clinked it with Thomas Sullivan’s.

The top bosses chatted about projects as they ate and drank.

Julia Land turned her head and nodded to Alexander Strong as a greeting.

During this time, Julia Land very much embodied the spirit of a secretary as she went out to buy cigarettes for Thomas Sullivan.

Watching Julia Land’s leaving figure, Thomas Sullivan smiled and said, “My secretary is really wonderful.”

Every word was a compliment.

He glanced sideways at Noah Quarter.

The two had always been at odds, and if it weren’t for their partnership, he genuinely wouldn’t bother sitting down to talk.

Noah Quarter glanced at Thomas Sullivan, his gaze icy and detached.

Thomas Sullivan pulled his chair closer, “If I pursue her, would Director Quarter mind?”

He didn’t have a rule against chasing someone close to home; relationships were all about mutual consent.

Noah Quarter’s voice was deep, “You won’t catch her.”

Thomas Sullivan scoffed, “How do you know I can’t catch her?

I have a much warmer personality than your cold-hearted nature.

Right, everyone?”

The other bosses chuckled, choosing not to join the conversation.

Noah Quarter smiled faintly, nonchalantly saying, “She knows you keep a mistress.”

Thomas Sullivan was speechless.

**

Julia Land returned with cigarettes, pulling one out for Thomas Sullivan; her slender fingertips pressed the lighter, leaning over to light his cigarette.

Her red, figure-hugging dress was alluring.

Noah Quarter leaned back in his chair, a cigarette also between his fingers, unlit, as he gazed at his phone.

After dinner, they didn’t immediately leave the private room.

There was business yet to be discussed.

Thomas Sullivan suggested a game of mahjong.

He asked Julia Land to sit and play for him, “Secretary Land, if you don’t know how, I can teach you.

If you lose, it’s on me.”

The stakes of these businessmen playing mahjong were not simple; a loss meant money or business deals.

Julia Land found it amusing, recalling a time when Noah Quarter had watched her being harassed by Wesley Turner while leisurely teaching Arabella Shaw how to play mahjong.

“I don’t remember how to play,” Julia Land laughed.

“Don’t worry, I’ll teach you,” Thomas Sullivan assured.

“Alright,” Julia Land agreed and sat down.

Noah Quarter was downstream from Julia Land; she played her tiles before him.

After two rounds, Julia Land’s plays all somehow benefited Noah Quarter.

This made Thomas Sullivan, her teacher, sigh, “Secretary Land, he’s no longer your boss; I am.

Why do you keep losing money?”

Julia Land shrugged helplessly.

It really wasn’t intentional.

The other bosses joked, “Director Quarter, you need to go easy on her, don’t bully her too much.”

Noah Quarter glanced at Julia Land, seeing her wink at him.

He smiled lightly, “Alright, this time I’ll let her win.”

After a few more rounds and the discussion concluded, a boss suddenly inquired about another matter.

“Are the Sullivans planning a marriage alliance with Mr.

Thompson of the Thompson Family in Capital City?”

Although called a marriage alliance, it was actually more of reaching upward.

Upon hearing this, Julia Land knew they were discussing Chloe Sullivan and James Thompson.

Thomas Sullivan extinguished his cigarette in the ashtray and chuckled, “Mr.

Thompson has not made any public declaration about this, so please don’t spread rumors.”

The Sullivan Family did have that intention, but it depended on whether James Thompson was willing.

Julia Land listened quietly, her eyelids lowered.

**

Everyone dispersed after dinner, stepping out of West Wealth Restaurant and entering their respective vehicles to leave.

Julia Land quickly spoke to Thomas Sullivan, “I have something to discuss with Director Quarter, so I won’t be returning to the office with you.

My workday is over.”

Thomas Sullivan watched her sway gracefully into Noah Quarter’s car, unable to comprehend what was so good about him.

Julia Land shut the door and turned to face Noah Quarter.

The man leaned back in his seat, his posture relaxed.

“Something on your mind?” he asked.

“No, just thought I’d hitch a ride home,” Julia Land smiled, “Is that alright?”

Having already gotten into the car, Noah Quarter couldn’t very well kick her out.

Julia Land told the driver her home address, then started chatting with Alexander Strong in the passenger seat.

After a while, she sniffed the smell of alcohol on her clothes, “This scent of booze really isn’t pleasant.”

Julia Land took out a bottle of perfume from her bag and spritzed it a few times, recommending it to Alexander Strong, “This perfume smells really nice; give it to your girlfriend, she’d probably like it.”

She leaned forward in her seat, chatting with Alexander Strong.

Her white blouse and red skirt outlined her perfect figure, subtly exuding seduction.

Noah Quarter glanced at her.

As the car arrived at the residential building, Julia Land thanked them and got out.

She hummed a song cheerfully as she walked into the neighborhood.

**

Noah Quarter returned to Imperial View Gardens, and Arabella Shaw greeted him happily, taking his coat.

She smelled his cologne.

A light and sweet scent.

He never wore such perfume.

Which woman had he been with!?
