His Obsession Began After Losing Her-Chapter 101: Jin Asked Shuri for Help
Chapter 101 - Jin Asked Shuri for Help
A few days later, during lunch.
Bora suddenly lost her appetite to continue with her lunch after hearing that Shuri would be moving to New Valley after her wedding.
"Are you really sure about this? The clinic can't operate without you, Shuri."
Shuri simply smiled. "The new veterinarian we hired seems capable enough to replace me. I'll do the handover properly before leaving. Don't worry."
"But it's just not the same without you," Bora said, her voice tinged with sadness.
She had opened the clinic with Shuri right after graduation and felt a deep connection to their work together.
Karlene chimed in, rolling her eyes. "Don't try to persuade her, Bora. My sis only listens to her fiancé now."
Karlene had asked Shuri many times before to move to New Valley with her, but each time, Shuri had refused. Now, Shuri didn't hesitate to move just because Noran told her to. Karlene felt a pang of jealousy and gripped her chopsticks in frustration.
"You know that's not the reason, Lene. Ran is just worried about our safety," Shuri retorted.
With Sigmund still on the loose in Sol City, New Valley seemed like a safer option. If they could, Noran would take Shuri to New Valley immediately, but there were many preparations to make before leaving. Therefore, they decided to hold their wedding quietly in Sol City before moving.
"And it's not like I won't be coming back. I'll return once the situation gets better," Shuri assured Bora.
"You better keep your promise," Bora said, feeling a bit better after hearing that Shuri would be back and they could still work together.
The three of them continued to eat and engaged in small talk when Karlene noticed her phone vibrating. She looked at the caller ID and her eyes widened in surprise to see Jin calling. She picked it up without hesitation.
"It's rare for you to call me. What's up?"
"I have a favor to ask you, Karlene. Are you free to meet up and talk?" Jin asked on the other end of the line.
"You can just tell me over the phone. I'm out at lunch with my sister and Bora," Karlene replied.
"Where are you girls at?" Jin asked.
Karlene gave him the address, and Jin said he was nearby and would be there shortly.
It took Jin only 15 minutes to arrive at the noodle shop where they were having lunch.
After parking his car nearby, he stepped into the shop and spotted the three women at the corner, finishing their meal.
As he walked over to them, they waved at him. He greeted them with a smile and didn't forget to congratulate Shuri.
"Congratulations, Shuri. We received your wedding invitation from Mrs. Hana, and we'll be sure to attend."
Shuri smiled warmly. "Thank you, Jin. We look forward to seeing you there."
Karlene, noticing Jin's comfortable demeanor around Shuri, guessed his reason for meeting wasn't related to her sister. "Hey, Jin, you said you needed my help. What's so urgent that you have to meet me now?"
Jin sat down and sighed before speaking. "You should know that Park Bank is facing a lot of issues lately. I heard you're close to the vice-director of Paragon. Can you help me request a meeting with him?"
Karlene raised her eyebrows. "You want to meet Roy?"
Jin nodded. "Yes, Park Bank is in a critical state. We've lost a major investor, and it's causing a ripple effect. Our liquidity is strained, and we're struggling to maintain the trust of our clients and shareholders.
After some discussion with the other directors, we believe that collaborating with Paragon could provide us with the stability and credibility we desperately need right now.
If we could establish a strategic partnership or even secure some investment from Paragon, it would go a long way in helping us navigate through this crisis."
Karlene considered his request thoughtfully. "This is a significant business matter between Park Bank and Paragon. It would be best to go through the official channels to propose the collaboration."
Jin sighed, frustration evident in his voice. "It's not like we haven't tried that. We've gone through the proper channels, but Paragon's higher executives have refused our proposals each time.
Even when we tried to meet with them personally, they declined to give us an appointment. I've heard rumors that Paragon seems to be targeting us, and many partners and investors who want to be on Paragon's side are withdrawing their collaborations with Park Bank.
That's why I'm asking for your help, Karlene. If you could facilitate a meeting with Mr. Lloyd, it might give us a chance to explain our situation and discuss potential collaboration."
The corner of Karlene's lips twisted after hearing what Jin said, and she glanced at Shuri with a knowing smile. "Oh, I understand now. If that's the case, you should ask my sister for help."
"Does Shuri know Mr. Lloyd well?" Jin asked, surprised.
Before Shuri could answer, Karlene quickly said, "Not Roy, the chairman."
Jin widened his eyes at Shuri. "The Chairman of Paragon? You know who he is?"
Shuri shot a brief, disapproving look at Karlene.
Despite knowing Noran had kept his identity as the chairman of Paragon a secret from the public, Karlene had to bring it up just to make things difficult.
Shuri sighed and said, "I don't think I should interfere with any company's business decisions. It's not my place to question or talk to anyone in Paragon about such matters."
"I understand your position, Shuri. I'm not asking you to take my side. I just need a chance to talk to the one in charge. If you could help facilitate a meeting with the chairman, I would greatly appreciate it," Jin said earnestly.
Though he didn't want to trouble Shuri, he was in desperate need of her help due to Park Bank's dire situation.
He didn't know how Shuri knew the mysterious chairman of Paragon or who he was to her, but if he could meet the founder of Paragon, he was confident his family could strike a deal.
Seeing the earnest look in Jin's eyes and remembering how much the Park family had helped her in the past, Shuri couldn't refuse.
She hesitated for a moment before saying, "I'll try to talk to him, but I can't promise you that he'll agree to meet you."
Jin's expression brightened. "Thank you, Shuri. And don't worry, no pressure. Even if you can't get us an appointment, it's fine. I still appreciate your help."
Shuri sighed quietly, unsure of how to approach Noran about this. She had never interfered with his work, respecting his professional decisions just as he respected hers.
Before Jin left, he asked, "Both of you will be coming to Mom's birthday banquet, right?"
Shuri nodded. "Of course, it's Mrs. Aera's birthday. My family and I will definitely attend."
Every year, the Park family threw a big banquet where family, friends, relatives, and business partners all came together to celebrate Aera's birthday. This year, Aera had asked Jin to make sure Shuri would attend, so he was relieved to confirm her participation.
After some small talk, Jin excused himself and thoughtfully settled the bill for them before leaving.
As Bora watched him go, she sighed. "Jin is such a nice guy. Too bad his opponent is Noran Kingston. He doesn't stand a chance."
Karlene scoffed, shaking her head. "I think Jin beats Noran in terms of character."
Shuri couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Don't compare Ran and Jin. Everyone has their own merits."
Bora commented, "I would have considered going for Jin if he wasn't so hung up on you, Shuri."
Karlene added with a mischievous grin, "Maybe you should pursue Jin now that my sister is about to get married."
Bora shook her head. "No, I can tell Jin still likes Shuri by the way he looks at her."
Shuri kept quiet, refusing to engage in such talk.
When they returned to her clinic, Shuri felt a sense of relief at being back in familiar surroundings. But as soon as she stepped inside, a woman dressed in an elegant short black dress approached her.
"Are you Shuri Lee?"
Shuri's eyes widened in surprise as she recognized the woman staring at her with hostility.
It was Sophia Carter, the woman who had tried to break her marriage with Noran in their past life, leading to their separation and her death. What was she doing here in her clinic now?
Sophia's eyes narrowed as Shuri stared at her in shock. "Hey, I'm talking to you. I'm looking for Shuri Lee. Are you her or not?"
Before Shuri could respond, Karlene stepped in, her tone sharp. "You can't just barge into my sister's clinic and demand to see her. Do you have an appointment?"
Bora, equally annoyed by Sophia's rudeness, called out, "Sora, who is this lady? Does she have an appointment?"
Sora hurried over, looking flustered. "No, she just walked in and insisted on meeting Dr. Lee. I told her you were out for lunch, and she needed to make an appointment, but she refused to leave."
"It's okay, Sora. Get back to work and prepare to reopen the clinic," Shuri said, keeping her composure as she walked past Sophia, completely ignoring her.
Sophia, angered by Shuri's disregard, turned and reached out to grab her. "Hey, who do you think you are to ignore me?"
