Chapter 48 - He Remembered Her

Shuri's eyes widened, locking onto the familiar light blue eyes in front of her.

She couldn't believe her ears.

Did he just call her Rin?

She was too shocked to move. His familiar presence, which she had missed so much, held her frozen in his embrace.

At that moment, she forgot where she was, lost in the sensations of the past colliding with the present.

Her lips parted as she was about to speak when Shik interrupted, "Dr Lee, is everything alright?"

The question jolted her back to reality.

Shuri immediately stepped back, breaking the intimate contact.

Noran's arms fell to his sides, and a flicker of disappointment crossed his eyes.

He longed to pull her back into his embrace, but he restrained himself, clenching his hand into a fist to control the impulse.

"Thank you for supporting me, Mr. Lee," Shuri said, her voice shaky but polite.

Trying to compose herself, she turned her attention to Snowball. "Ahem, about Snowball... Has he shown any signs of discomfort recently? Any changes in appetite or behavior?"

"He hasn't been eating well and seems less energetic than usual," Noran replied, his eyes not leaving hers.

Shuri quickly looked away, her heart pounding in her chest as she heard his voice clearly for the first time in ten years.

Why did his voice still sound as mesmerizing as ever?

On the other hand, Shik observed Snowball, who looked overweight and was still wagging his tail furiously while trying to lick Shuri's face.

He thought, "He doesn't seem like he's not eating well or lacking energy."

Shuri tried to compose herself again, maintaining a professional demeanor despite the turmoil inside her. She asked Noran a few more questions before saying, "Alright, I'll perform a full examination on Snowball. Please wait for us outside, Mr. Lee."

Noran nodded and left the room.

After letting out a sigh of relief, Shuri gently stroked Snowball before proceeding to check his vital signs, feeling his abdomen and listening to his heartbeat.

Then, she continued to examine his eyes, ears, and mouth for any signs of illness.

"Shik, can you run these samples to the lab and get the results for me?" Shuri asked as she drew blood from Snowball with a practiced hand.

Shik nodded, taking the vials of blood and leaving the room.

With Shik gone, Shuri was alone with Snowball.

"Oh my god, Snowball! Mummy misses you so much!" Shuri tried to suppress her scream as she embraced Snowball gently.

She had been longing to hold Snowball like this, and the little dog's joyful reaction showed he remembered her too. Snowball wagged his tail furiously and kept licking her face, his excitement clear.

Shuri giggled and patted him. "So, it was Daddy who found you and took care of you?"

"Yelp yelp!" Snowball replied, his eyes shining with happiness.

Shuri smiled. "Has Daddy been doing well?"

Snowball let out a sad whine as if to say, "Not so well."

Her smile faded slightly. "I hope he's living a better life than before."

A rush of emotions flooded her as she thought about Noran. "Did he suddenly remember me? Is this why he's here?"

If Noran truly remembered their past life, she wanted nothing more than to run back out and embrace him.

Yet, she knew she couldn't.

They were no longer like before.

Their paths had changed, and by avoiding him, she had altered his fate.

Their lives seemed to be on a better path without each other. She feared that if she were to reunite with him, their fate would revert to how it was before.

What if he ended up hurt again because of her?

Just like in her nightmare...

Shuri shook her head, not wanting to entertain the thought. She couldn't risk it.

She needed to step back and observe how things would unfold first.

Outside the waiting area, Noran observed the vet clinic. Shuri's clinic was bustling with activity, a testament to its reputation.

The reception area was filled with patients, from small kittens to large dogs, all waiting to see Shuri or her associate vet, Dr. Bora Kim.

As Noran took in his surroundings, a golden retriever suddenly approached him and licked his hand.

A vet assistant, Sora Chew, quickly intervened. "Happy, you shouldn't disturb others," she said, then turned to Noran with an apologetic smile.

"I'm so sorry about that."

Noran shook his head and patted Happy. "It's alright. Is this dog part of the clinic?"

Sora nodded. "Yes, she belongs to Dr. Lee. She got her six years ago in Midori Town."

Noran's eyes widened slightly. Shuri had gone to Midori Town six years ago, just like him. Did she go there to find Snowball? How had they missed each other? He had waited in that small town for a week, hoping to catch a glimpse of her, to find any trace, but their paths had never crossed.

The realization hit him hard.

If she had gone there for Snowball, it meant she remembered their first life together.

But if that was true, why hadn't she sought him out again?

Was she avoiding him intentionally, or had something else kept her away?

Questions swirled in his mind, each one more pressing than the last.

His thoughts were interrupted when Shik called out to him. "Mr. Lee, you can come in now."

Noran shook off his thoughts and headed back to the consultation room.

As he entered, his eyes softened at the sight before him.

Shuri was gently patting Snowball, her touch tender and familiar.

The scene transported him back to their first life together, where moments like these were part of their everyday reality. He remembered the quiet evenings they spent with Snowball between them.

A pang of longing struck him deeply. How he wished he could return to those days, to the simple joy of being with her and their beloved pet.

When Shuri noticed Noran's presence, she turned back to the medical report on her computer and said in a professional tone, "Snowball's health is good, and his vaccinations are up to date. However, he seems to be a bit overweight. I'll prescribe a new diet and probiotics for him."

Noran wasn't used to Shuri speaking to him like that. He remembered how gentle and endearing her voice used to be, filled with warmth and affection, not this distant professionalism.

He wished she would stop treating him like a stranger. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Seeing Noran still staring at her, Shuri didn't say more and passed Snowball back to him, but the dog whined, reluctant to leave her.

"Mr. Lee, please follow me to the reception area and we can finalize everything there," Shik advised.

Noran hesitated, looking back at Shuri one last time, but he nodded and reluctantly followed Shik out of the consultation room.

Shuri felt a pang of sadness as she watched them leave, though she tried not to show it.

However, she didn't have the luxury of dwelling on her emotions for long, as a steady stream of patients kept her occupied.

The hours flew by as she attended to one animal after another, each requiring her full attention and care.

She continued to see patients consecutively until 6 pm when the clinic finally closed.

After tidying up her consultation room and finishing her notes, she stepped out and glanced around, noting Noran's absence.

She thought to herself, "What was I expecting? Of course, he must have left."

After bidding goodbye to her colleagues, she walked out of the clinic with Happy trotting beside her.

To her surprise, she saw Noran waiting for her at a nearby distance, with Snowball in his arms.

Her heart skipped a beat, a mix of anticipation and uncertainty flooding her senses.

"Yelp, yelp!" Snowball called out as Noran put him down, and the little dog ran to Shuri.

She scooped him up, hugging him gently.

Then, she looked up and saw Noran approaching, his eyes filled with anticipation.

Her heart raced as their gazes locked and he stood before her.

Just as she sensed he was about to say something, a voice suddenly interrupted, breaking the moment.

"Shuri!"

Startled, she turned around to see Jin stepping out of his car and hurrying towards her.

"Jin, why are you here?" Shuri asked, her voice tinged with surprise.

"I heard from Mrs. Hana that you sent your car for servicing, so I came to fetch you for dinner," Jin replied.

Jin's mother, Aera, had invited both Shuri and Hana over to their place for dinner that night.

It was clear that Hana and Aera were trying to set Shuri and Jin up again.

When Hana mentioned that Shuri's car was in for servicing, Aera seized the opportunity to arrange the dinner.

The two mothers had been conspiring, hoping to spark a connection between their children.

"You didn't have to personally come to fetch me," Shuri said.

Jin smiled warmly, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "It's alright, it was along the way."

He then turned to Noran, curiosity evident in his expression. "And who might this be?"
