Chapter 74 - Unwanted Visitor and a Heated Reunion

When Shuri entered her consultation room, she found Sigmund already seated, waiting for her.

Remembering the unpleasant experience from before, Shuri didn't bother to put on a smile, her hostility evident as she looked at him.

Sigmund stood up, smiling as he greeted her, "Good afternoon, Dr. Lee. I'm sorry to come unannounced."

"Why are you here, Dr. Sung?" Shuri asked, standing by the door, clearly uncomfortable being in the same enclosed space with him.

Sigmund appeared slightly hurt by her cold attitude but pressed on.

"I'm here to apologize for my rude behavior during our last meeting and also for Mr. Guss' recent actions towards you. It was our misjudgment to release him early, and I'm deeply sorry for the distress it caused you."

Shuri stared quietly at Sigmund, studying him.

He appeared genuinely apologetic, but despite lacking her divine ability, she still found him suspicious.

Shuri wasn't as easy-going and naive as she might seem.

She was cautious and wary of people, fully aware of how dangerous someone with ill intentions could be to her and those she loved.

"Dr. Sung, I won't accept your apology for what you did previously. As for Mr. Guss, I also share some of the blame for giving him a good evaluation.

Therefore, I believe I need further training and won't be continuing the animal-assisted therapy sessions at your hospital."

Sigmund's eyes widened in shock. "You're quitting? You can't quit, Dr. Lee. Many of our patients look forward to your sessions and benefit greatly from them."

Shuri shook her head firmly. "The incident with Mr. Guss clearly shows that I'm lacking in this area. I will recommend someone better and conduct a thorough handover before leaving."

Sigmund's expression darkened as he realized his plan had backfired.

He had brainwashed Bernard into sending Shuri the gruesome parcel, hoping to create a situation where he could meet with her and manipulate her further.

However, his actions had only pushed her away.

"Dr. Lee," Sigmund began, his tone growing more desperate, "I understand your concerns, but please reconsider. The patients truly need you. We can arrange for additional training, anything you need."

Shuri's resolve didn't waver. "Dr. Sung, my decision is final. My priority is to ensure the well-being of my patients, and right now, that means stepping back and allowing someone more capable to take over."

Sigmund struggled to maintain his composure.

"Very well, Dr. Lee. I respect your decision. I hope you can reconsider working together again and give some thought to my previous proposal to work in our upcoming animal hospital as the director."

Shuri gave a curt nod, signaling the end of their conversation.

"I have another patient waiting, Dr. Sung."

"I won't continue to bother you then, Dr. Lee. Goodbye."

Sigmund forced a smile and left the room.

As he walked away, he reflected on his failed attempt.

His scare tactic using Bernard hadn't worked.

He had initially thought he could create a common topic or open a case with Shuri through Bernard, but instead, she was more resolved to stay away from him now.

He needed to come up with a new plan to get Shuri to come to his side.

Sigmund approached the reception counter and asked, "What is your name, Miss?"

Sora looked up from her desk and replied with a polite smile, "I'm Sora Chew. Do you need any help, Dr. Sung?"

Sigmund's eyes locked onto hers, and he spoke in a low, commanding voice, "Ms. Chew, I need you to give me Dr. Lee's schedule."

Sora's eyes glazed over slightly, her smile fading as she fell under the influence of his voice.

She nodded mechanically, turning to her computer and pulling up Shuri's schedule without hesitation.

Her fingers moved swiftly across the keyboard as she printed out the information and handed it to Sigmund.

"Here is Dr. Lee's schedule," she said in a monotone voice, her expression blank.

Sigmund took the schedule, a satisfied smirk playing on his lips.

"Thank you, Ms. Chew," he said, his voice returning to normal.

Sora blinked, a confused look crossing her face as she regained her senses.

She watched Sigmund leave, not fully understanding what had just happened. freewēbnoveℓ.com

With Shuri's schedule in hand, a sinister smile appeared on Sigmund's face.

He would find a way to bring Shuri to his side, no matter what it took.

He exited the clinic, already formulating his next move.

...

After work, the dog nanny arranged by Noran arrived to pick up Happy and Snowball.

Once the dogs were safely with the nanny, Shuri, Karlene, and Bora made their way to a popular BBQ restaurant to meet their college friends.

The BBQ restaurant was bustling with activity.

The warm, smoky aroma of grilling meat filled the air, mingling with the sounds of sizzling meat and cheerful conversations.

Patrons crowded around tables equipped with built-in grills, each table surrounded by friends and families eagerly cooking and enjoying their food.

Inside, the group spotted their friends already seated at a corner table.

Jin, a familiar face with a warm smile, waved at them.

Beside him was Suzy Young, a petite woman with bright eyes and a lively demeanor. She wore her hair in a chic bob and had a habit of gesturing animatedly as she spoke.

Next to Suzy was Kian Maxwell, a rugged-looking man with a scruffy beard and a well-worn leather jacket.

His rough exterior belied a gentle nature, and he had a deep, hearty laugh that often filled the room.

Completing the group was Juno Kang, a man with specs perched on his nose, giving him an intellectual air.

He had a calm and composed presence, often observing more than speaking, but when he did, his words carried weight.

"You guys are early!" Karlene said to the group as she settled down with Shuri and Bora.

"This is such a rare gathering, we didn't want to be late," Suzy replied, acting like the representative of the group.

She grinned at Shuri. "Besides, we're dying to know more about your engagement, Shuri."

Jin's smile faded slightly at the mention of the engagement, while Shuri casually responded, "I'll send everyone an invitation once we've confirmed the date."

"Of course, you'll have to invite us. But I'm not just chasing you for an invitation. I want to know if what Bora told us is true," Suzy pressed.

"Are you accusing me of lying, Suzy?" Bora interjected before Shuri could reply, looking rather unhappy.

"You always tease me, Bora, so how can I trust you?"

Bora huffed, "I'm telling the truth this time. Her fiancé is really Noran Kingston!"

Jin chimed in, shaking his head, "You must be mistaken, Bora. He definitely just looks like him."

"Who is this Noran Kingston? Why is everyone talking about him? Is he famous?" Kian asked suddenly, not familiar with the musical trends.

"He's part of the musical monarchs family," Juno replied in a monotone as he pulled out Noran's profile from his tablet for all to see.

"He's won numerous grand competitions and is widely praised for his exceptional technical skill, earning him the nickname 'Liszt Luminary.' He's also incredibly popular with the ladies, not just because of his talent, but also due to his striking good looks."

Kian widened his eyes as he read Noran's impressive profile. "I'm a man, and I even find him incredibly handsome. Are you sure this is Shuri's fiancé?"

Karlene watched her friends discussing Noran with growing irritation.

She slammed the table, causing everyone to jump. "Hey, I didn't ask everyone to gather here tonight just to talk about that despicable man!"

There was a moment of stunned silence as the waitstaff brought in the preordered BBQ meat.

The server expertly placed the succulent slices of meat on the BBQ pits before them.

The sound of the meat sizzling on the hot grill filled the air, the rich aroma wafting around the table and gradually breaking the tension.

Finally, Suzy broke the silence. "I think you need to get your eyes checked, Karlene."

Karlene furrowed her brows at her. "Huh?"

"For the first time in my life, I agree with Suzy!" Bora said, flipping a slice of meat on the grill.

"Yes, how can you call such a good-looking man despicable? Are you blind?" Kian added, his tone incredulous.

"You guys..." Karlene gritted her teeth in frustration. "You shouldn't just favor him because he looks good!"

"Karlene is right. You can't determine a person's character from the way they look," Jin said, siding with Karlene.

Karlene gave Jin a high-five from across the table. "Exactly! What's the use of a handsome face when his character is awful!"

"To be fair, character can be developed. Looks, unfortunately, don't work the same way," Juno interjected, adjusting his glasses with a blunt precision.

As the group continued to quarrel over the topic, Shuri quietly ate her meal, acting as if she had nothing to do with the conversation, despite being the center of it all.

She chewed her food in an innocent and carefree manner, seemingly enjoying her meal and oblivious to the heated discussion swirling around her.

Noticing Shuri's carefree attitude, Bora decided to bring her into the conversation. "Hey guys, shouldn't we ask the main character here? Isn't Noran Kingston your fiancé, Shuri? Why are you acting like you have no part in this?"

Everyone finally turned their attention to Shuri, who was still chewing, looking completely innocent and detached from the debate.

Her eyes widened innocently as she leisurely swallowed and then said, "Oh, should I introduce him to everyone then?"
