Chapter 573: 573. Underground Maze

"No, it’s not right under our base," Uncle Darien shook his head. "It’s under the outer section area and expanded outwards."

The inner area’s ground was the hills.

These big mutated animals didn’t target it for some reasons and for the people in City A Base, it was actually a good thing. Because it meant that they didn’t have to worry so much about these big mutated animals suddenly appearing below them.

But some parts of the tunnels were at the outer areas of City A Base.

So they had to be a bit diligent in checking these underground mazes.

If these big mutated animals appeared suddenly, they had to be prepared to fight. It would be better if these big mutated animals were cleaned up first, though.

"Still the same." One of them shook their heads.

No matter what, it was still below them and also a part of the danger.

But they would not back down so easily. Because they knew very well that their current situation was not very good and that survival was not easy. Still, no one was willing to give up as they wished that they would survive for a longer period of time and made sure that their lives become better and better in the days to come.

So whatever challenge was thrown to them, they would bravely face it.

"In any case, I’ll show the map for the underground maze so far and let you see it," Uncle Darien said. "I’ll divide it into the team..."

The screen now changed to the underground maze below City A Base. The map was not complete because these big mutated animals were still moving around the area and dug some other tunnels.

But this was the latest map that Uncle Darien had.

He divided their work and Anna looked at it, sighing. Since their opponent might be powerful big mutated animals, they had to go back and prepare for this exploration.

After getting their area, they all came back one by one.

They would go tomorrow.

Today was the preparation day.

"Dylan, Anna, you two stay behind," Uncle Darien said.

"What is it Uncle? Isn’t it enough that we talk a lot at home?" Dylan retorted, but he still sat back down with Anna beside him, looking in his direction helplessly.

Uncle Darien rolled his eyes and then said, "The government has given warning that there might be other rank 7 or rank 8 big mutated animals out there. If you two ever encounter them and couldn’t defeat them, then retreat."

Retreat? freewebnøvel.coɱ

Dylan raised his head and looked at his uncle with arched eyebrows. "Are you sure that you want us to retreat? You know that no one in City A Base could defeat those rank 7 or 8 big mutated animals."

No one in City A Base had reached rank 6 or above aside from them and Kitty.

If they were suddenly asked to defeat the rank 7 or 8 big mutated animals, they would be defeated for sure.

The highest ranked in City A Base on the surface was still the five leaders followed by Lucy, Mark, and some others who had already reached rank 5. But they were all still a distance away from rank 6.

Oh, Old Master Daniels was also at rank 6.

For some reasons, Old Master Daniels could advance quickly, but his physical strength improvement was small compared to many other awakened. It seemed that his ability was concentrated on his ability’s improvement, which was why his ranks improved very quickly.

But in terms of battle, Old Master Daniels was definitely not a match against the others who were active to hunt those big mutated animals.

"Your safety is important," Uncle Darien replied. "And I don’t want you two to fall because of these big mutated animals."

Dylan heard his uncle’s words and nodded imperceptibly. Even though he knew that the base needed them, Uncle Darien would rather prioritize their safety.

Because only when they were alive would there be hope for the future.

It was also because of this that Uncle Darien hoped that Dylan and Anna would survive and not to bet their lives on the line just to fight against that powerful big mutated animal.

"Yeah, I know, but do you want to trade the lives of millions of people and let me run away?" Dylan asked another question.

"Perhaps," Uncle Darien replied. "No one ever asked you to be the ’hero’ is there?"

Hero.

Dylan sneered and shook his head.

He never believed in that one word because he felt that it was ridiculous. He will protect City A Base because his family members were all here and the people he cared for were also here.

But if he was asked to shoulder the burden of the entire world and saved the world, then Dylan would definitely say that he couldn’t.

He’s just an ordinary person and even if he was a bit more powerful than many other at this stage, but there might be other awakened who were better than him.

Beside him, Anna also looked at Uncle Darien.

To be honest, Anna couldn’t say that she cared for City A Base in a whole nor the entire humanity. Even though she wished that the world would be safer, which was one of the reasons why she presented the method to cultivate the plants through the big mutated animals’ corpses, but she didn’t want to bear the so called burden to save the entire world.

Does she have that ability?

Anna didn’t know.

And she didn’t want to know.

What she wanted was simply to survive and to protect those whom she cared for around her.

The others didn’t matter too much to her.

So trying to ask her to sacrifice herself for the sake of the entire world, then Anna might not be able to do it. But if it was only for the sake of the few people whom she cared for, then it might still be possible.

But to be honest, Anna hoped such a situation would not happen.
