Infinite Cube: Extra's Life in Another World-Chapter 46: New Master [2]
Chapter 46 - New Master [2]
"Kai, who is that?" Lilith asked, her tone laced with a hint of anger.
Noticing her rising emotions, Kai waved his hands as if to dispel her doubts, but before he could speak, another voice rang out, astonishment and reverence woven into it.
"Emperor Evelyn." The voice came from Bethel, who immediately fell to one knee. "What... What?" His voice cracked, filled with fear.
"What are you doing here, my lady?" he said, glancing at Matthew, signaling him to do the same.
Matthew met his gaze then shifted his focus to the woman, blinking. 'Am I supposed to kneel? Why?'
Seeing his unwillingness to comply, Bethel tried to divert her attention from Matthew but soon noticed she didn't care at all. "Uhmm... My lady, what brings you here exactly?"
Drawing closer, Eve stood with unshakable confidence. "Little Beth, you've grown a lot."
"Little Beth," the group chorused as they looked at Bethel, whose face was filled with joy as if he had won a trophy.
"My lady, you remember my name?"
Eve simply nodded before speaking. "You must be little Tony's first child, what was it again? Remind me, kid."
Matthew stared at the figure; confusion didn't even begin to describe what he felt.
Kai had gone out to do something no one knew about after jumping into the vanishing gate, they had left him behind because of Elia's sorry excuse, and now Kai had returned with a strange woman he had to grovel to.
Rubbing his temples, Matthew finally said, his voice sounding as if he was one step away from collapsing, "Who exactly are you and what is going on?"
Eve frowned slightly. "Little Beth, you didn't tell the brat about me, the one who's been protecting your family since Leo died?"
Bethel flinched, his voice filled with fear. "I'm sorry, my lady, it's just that..."
His words were cut off by Matthew's voice. "Leo... you mean Ancestor Leo? Are you some kind of ancient monster?"
[Nope, he didn't?]
'He definitely did,' Kai answered Alpha.
"Who did you just call old, you brat?"
Matthew opened his mouth, ready to blurt out whatever came to mind, but quickly shut it as he caught sight of Kai's gesture.
'I shouldn't say anything,' he thought, fixing his gaze on Kai.
"Young master," Bethel spoke. "This is the venerable figure the Lord told you about, the same one who was in your ancestor's coven and the only surviving overlord and human from the Third Genesis—Evelyn Stars."
Junpei's eyes widened in bewilderment. Out of the entire group, he could be said to be the information broker.
His lips parted as he spoke, "Emperor Evelyn, the finest of mankind, the one who once stood as one of the Seven Stars of Humanity, defeating demons in the early era, and one of the few who refused ascension to another world."
"Someone with some sense," Eve replied, impressed.
Junpei adjusted his glasses, a satisfied smirk appearing on his face.
"I didn't notice you, Emperor Eve," Matthew said as he quickly knelt on one knee, followed by Junpei and Lilith.
Only after they knelt did Kai notice the absence of Elia and Ikenna.
'Where did those two go?'
[Most likely for the same reason you left the group. Don't forget you're not the only transmigrator; it's only natural she uses her knowledge.]
'I finally found someone more useless than Alpha. I seriously need a refund, even though I didn't pay for either of you.'
'I'll give you the benefit of the doubt... but I think Alpha is right, I'm not the only transmigrator after all.'
[Hah, did you think I was wrong? If I'm wrong and you're right, I'd rather die.]
[Well, I can't be dumber than Kai.]
Kai sighed and shifted his focus back to the group, who had finished their banter.
"So, Lady Eve, why are you with Young Master Kaiser?"

Eve turned to face Kai, who stood directly behind her, before speaking. "Oh, this one? He's going to be my student from now on."
Bethel froze in place at her words. No one needed to tell him about Kai's potential he had seen it firsthand.
But having him train under the most powerful human would completely upset the academy's balance. Still, he didn't want to make his young master feel inferior to anyone, even if it cost him his life.
However, when he saw Matthew's expression, and the smile curling up his lips, Bethel's tensed body relaxed and his stern expression softened.
He had no reason to worry, because this was what his young master wanted. Not a group of foolish children without goals. Not nobles throwing tantrums over misplaced strength.
Now he had a true rival he could grow and fight alongside.
-----
The journey back to the academy was rather plain. Kai asked about the whereabouts of Elia and Ikenna, but just as he suspected, no one had any information to share.
The gate that flickered with a gray light, unlike the dungeons' blue light, was their only means of transportation.
This occurrence was due to the fact that gates or portals changed color according to the amount of mana they contained, much like mages' cores changed color.
The last glow of dusk bathed their skin, casting ever-growing shadows behind them. Moments later, they emerged in the academy's portal room.
With a final wave, Kai turned and made his way back to his house in the gutter.
The day had drained every ounce of strength from him.
As soon as Kai reached the house with Eve, who refused to reveal herself to the academy, a fact Kai greatly appreciated, he went straight into the shower and then into his room without wasting a second.
Glancing at the projected time and date, Kai sighed; the school's virtual training and cultural festival was approaching soon, which meant the major changes in the academy that served as the prelude to Deerheart's arc would soon begin.
"Damn, I thought life would be easier," he grumbled.
His gaze slowly shifted to the private collection showing various images of top-tier real estate properties that Cassie had brought for him.
The prices listed were ridiculously high, but Kai couldn't care less; if it was the house he was going to spend the rest of his days in, it had to be that good.
'Plus, the area isn't going to be attacked during monster rampages,' Kai thought, clenching the catalog tightly, visions of his life after the academy flashing before his eyes. 'Can't wait.'
He grabbed a pen and marked a penthouse that sat atop the largest estate in Meltonia's hundredth floor, it had eight bedrooms, and a massive living area with Meltonia's best view.
A private training chamber strong enough to withstand the attacks of even an overlord, fully equipped rooms, and behind the building, a beautiful sea with a yacht reserved for each resident living above the ninetieth floor.
And best of all, a red sports car and a white sports car included.
Kai inhaled deeply and exhaled into the cool breeze.
'Life is really good when you're rich.'
[Yeah, for f***ing ninety million Meltons.]
'What? We made more than expected from the potions and the sticks I placed in Camber Enterprise... That totaled thirty million Meltons. Investing in my future isn't bad,' he replied.
[Haah, whatever. I said it's fifty-six million, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, or nine trillion won.]
Both Kai and Legion, who was lying on the bed, took in the fresh breeze, satisfied with their progress.
Kai's face darkened as his eyes drifted to his Zero's activation watch lying on the reading table.
'It's six already,' he thought, putting on his shirt and strapping the watch. 'Let's go get beat up, shall we.'
He opened the door gracefully and headed toward his training area.
