Married For Now-Chapter 124: BITTER
Chapter 124: BITTER
I NEVER thought my bed was small, not until now, at least.
That was Sohee’s thought while cuddling with Kim Heedo.
This time, he was the "big spoon."
My arm is starting to feel numb, but it’s okay.
Sohee let Kim Heedo use his arm as a pillow while his husband had his face buried against his neck— his arms wrapped around Sohee’s waist tightly.
It was a comfortable position.
I don’t care if my arm goes numb as long as I get to be this close to my husband— Heedo smells so good, especially his pheromones.
"And that’s what happened."
Oh.
Sohee snapped out of his idle thoughts after Kim Heedo finished his story.
His husband told him how he wrapped up the whole kidnapping-slash-Jin Taejoon case.
"So, Jin Taejoon is already in jail?"
"Yes, Hyung," Kim Heedo said firmly. "I promise you that Jin Taejoon won’t live in peace while he’s in prison. If you want him to be castrated while he’s there, tell me. I’ll make it happen."
"Uh, I don’t want an update about Jin Taejoon. I’m satisfied as long as that pervert is rotting in jail," Sohee said, pausing for a moment. "But I won’t stop you from punishing that bastard in a way you deem fit, Heedo-ya."
"I got it, Hyung."
Uh-oh.
It seems like Jin Taejoon will lose his "family jewels" soon.
"Thank you, Heedo-ya," Sohee said cheerfully, kissing Kim Heedo on the forehead. "I can finally breathe again."
"I don’t deserve your gratitude, Hyung. You wouldn’t have been kidnapped in the first place if I assigned a security detail for you from the beginning."
"Heedo-ya, what did I say about blaming ourselves for something that we don’t have control over?"
"Uhm, it doesn’t help resolve the problem."
"Right. So, let’s just focus on other matters that we need to discuss."
"As you wish, Hyung."
"It’s shocking that the culprit is President Lee’s grandson," Sohee said, changing the subject right away by starting with that shocking news. "I bet Song Sihyuk-ssi was upset that he couldn’t kill someone who had already killed himself."
"You bet he was," Kim Heedo said in a sleepy voice. "But that’s his problem."
The bigger problem was the culprit’s identity wasn’t the most shocking news.
"So, Song Sihyuk-ssi is a Hyper-Dominant Alpha?"
"Yes, and Kyungmin Hyung knows all along," Kim Heedo confirmed. "That’s probably why Kyungmin Hyung was so sure I was a Hyper-Dominant Alpha, too."
Sohee hugged Kim Heedo tighter, pulling his husband closer to him— suddenly feeling more protective of his man. "Don’t worry, Heedo-ya. I won’t let anyone steal your pheromones. The fact that you’re a Hyper-Dominant Alpha must be kept a secret at all cost."
He couldn’t believe that the pheromones of a Hyper-Dominant Alpha were the ’missing ingredient’ to make the miracle pills work.
No wonder Garam Hyung-nim turned into an Omega— and he even got pregnant.
"I wonder if the kid that we met before was actually turned into an Omega," Sohee wondered out loud. "Do you remember Jung Byeol? The Omega kid who attacked you at the parking lot."
"Yeah, I remember. But didn’t the kid already clarify that he just misspoke that day?"
"I still feel off. To be honest, I already forgot about that incident. But now that we know what you are and what your pheromones could do, I can’t help but worry that people behind the miracle pills are just around us."
Kim Heedo lifted his head, and Sohee could see that his husband was worried about him. "Do you want to dig deeper into that kid’s background?"
"Yes, please."
"Alright. I’ll ask Ahjussi to take care of it."
"Thank you," Sohee said, and then he added another favor while he was at it: "Heedo-ya, I want us to have a meeting with Garam Hyung-nim and Song Sihyuk-ssi. Since Song Sihyuk-ssi already knows what you are, can we share your secret with Garam Hyung-nim?"
"I’m sure Sihyuk Hyung-nim already told Garam Hyung-nim about it," Kim Heedo said. "I don’t mind since I trust them. But what do you want to talk about with them?"
"Garam Hyung-nim said there was a point in Song Sihyuk-ssi’s life where his memories of Garam Hyung-nim were erased."
"Really? I didn’t know that. Sihyuk Hyung-nim has always been an asshole, after all. I couldn’t tell which point of his life did he lose a portion of his memory."
If the conversation wasn’t serious, Sohee would have burst out laughing already.
Because that was funny.
"I want to know if Song Sihyuk’s loss of memories has something to do with his awakening as a Hyper-Dominant Alpha."
Kim Heedo suddenly turned serious. "You’re worried that I might lose my memory, Hyung?"
"Yeah, I am."
"That won’t happen, Hyung. Plus, we’re not sure if Sihyuk Hyung-nim really lost his memories because of his manifestation as a Hyper-Dominant Alpha."
"Even so, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared."
Fortunately, Kim Heedo nodded in agreement. "Alright, Hyung. Let’s talk to them about that. I don’t want you to continue worrying about that matter."
"Thank you."
Kim Heedo paused for a moment while observing Sohee’s face. "Hyung, you’ve been through a lot these days. Should we cancel your appointment tomorrow?"
"I’ll be fine after a good night’s sleep," Sohee said, assuring his husband that he was fine. "I need to meet my mother as soon as possible to help my half-brother."
***
TO BE HONEST, Sohee wasn’t expecting a tearful reunion with his mother.
Shin Kang— Kim Heedo’s right-hand man— arranged for that meeting between the two of them.
They didn’t make the same mistake that Song Sihyuk when he rented the entire café.
In fact, Sohee and his mother agreed to meet in the coffee shop in the hospital’s lobby.
It was full of other customers, so it was relatively safe.
Some of the "civilians" here are the bodyguards that Heedo hired for me.
"You must be Heedo."
Oh.
Sohee’s mother didn’t only look disinterested in him— she also sounded like she was already tired even if they had just met.
Eomma looks older than I remember, but I recognized her right away.
And that seemed the case for his mother.
"You look exactly like your father when he was your age."
Sohee frowned— disgusted by the comparison.
Moreover...
"Is that why you can’t look at me, ma’am?"
Sohee couldn’t call the woman who couldn’t even look him in the eye as ’eomma’ out loud.
It looked like his mother couldn’t wait to get out of there.
Ah, this is more painful than I expected.
Sohee didn’t want to feel bitter, but he couldn’t help it.
"If you have something to say to me, please say it already," his mother said, her cold eyes glued to the lukewarm cup of coffee in her hands. "My son is waiting for me."
"I’m also your son, am I not?"
"..."
She can’t even acknowledge me as her son.
Sohee knew that he should just get straight to the point and offer help to his half-brother.
However, he must be really emotional that day because he couldn’t stop himself from asking the question that would make him regret that moment later.
"Why did you abandon me when you had the chance to save me from that hellhole?"
"You’re a rare male Omega," his mother said bluntly, finally looking Sohee straight in the eye with her cold gaze. "It’s a burden to have an Omega son since your kind requires your guardian to be extra vigilant— especially around Alphas."
Oh.
Oh.
"So, I was the problem all along," Sohee said bitterly, letting out a dull laugh. "You abandoned me not because of my father, but because you couldn’t be bothered raising your needy Omega son."
