Modern World Warlock-Chapter 280: The Assault on the Jade Palace
On the same night of the attacks on Naul and Cerulis, the Jade Dragons received notice of the encounters from the other mafia factions and prepared their defenses at the Jade Palace.
Zac and Alice had been sent to the city of Arcgate along with the members of the Alpha Team, as it was a hotspot for the cartel to attack.
The rest of the teams were separated and sent to other cities on the east side of Novaria to guard them from any possible attack, leaving only a selected few inside the Jade Palace, which was protected by Dante's barriers.
Camille and Megan were among the group who stayed with Dante, and while Lilith wanted to stay with the warlock, she was tasked with patrolling Novis and making sure that no undead caused trouble.
The Zeta Team and any other non-combatant members, such as Sophia and Victoria, stayed at the Jade Palace as well, considering it was the safest place in the city—or it should have been.
Megan and Camille were in the briefing room of the mansion, speaking with the other mafia faction leaders on the phone as the attacks on the north and south were happening.
Suddenly, their call was interrupted when Paige sent an emergency signal to their office, making a red light flash as the scientist alerted the group of a pack of ghouls outside the residence.
"A pack of ghouls?" Megan pondered aloud. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
When Camille put on the feed from the cameras outside the mansion, they saw a group of at least twenty ghouls, and after one of them tried to climb the tall gate at the entrance, Dante's barrier made the monster light up in flames.
The other ghouls hesitated to climb the gate after seeing its effect, and Megan believed it was an excellent opportunity for her to go out and finish them all.
Still, even though Dante's defenses were working, Camille opened a small compartment under her desk and pressed a hidden button, starting the residence's emergency protocol.
The alarm blared loudly all over the mansion, and everyone began to mobilize to a safe room near the bedrooms, which would take them underground into a long tunnel in case they needed to evacuate the area.
Sophia, who had already experienced a similar situation in the past, acted quickly and helped move all the non-combatants to the safe room. Still, she remembered that Dante was in the infirmary and wondered if she should pick him up.
Rina and Rona, who were already inside the safe room, expressed their worries about Asher and Amara since they had been hanging out at the infirmary, waiting for Dante to wake up.
"I'll go. Do not leave this room!" Sophia exclaimed, rushing to the infirmary.
When the blonde was close, she saw Megan and Camille also arriving at the room with the same plan in mind.
"Sophie? What are you doing here!?" Megan asked, knowing that the blonde should've been in the safe room by then.
"I was worried about Dante and the twins!" Sophia replied.
Camille widened her eyes in shock as she wasn't expecting the harpion twins to be there, and when she opened the door to the infirmary, the two kids gazed at the women with confusion.
"Cami, what's happening?" Asher casually asked.
"There are some bad people trying to come in here, so we need to get somewhere safe…" Camille replied, approaching the children and patting their heads.
The handler believed that they had all the time in the world to get to safety as the undead intruders hadn't passed through Dante's barrier. Still, they needed to continue with the emergency protocol.
*PRANG!* A loud toll echoed through the mansion that left a ringing in their ears, sounding like a massive glass structure had just shattered above them.
Cerberus, who was being carried by Camille, instantly jumped out of her arms and stood beside Dante while the harpion twins prepared themselves in a combat stance.
"W-what was that…?" Camille pondered.
"Big brother's barrier is gone…" Amara replied, seemingly confused.
Megan, Camille, and Sophia shared a look with each other, slightly panicking as their residence would be swarmed by undead in minutes.
The handler asked Megan to help the Beta Team in fighting the wave of undead that would be entering their home.
Sophia should have returned to the safe room, but having her running alone would be riskier than being with someone, so she accompanied Megan.
Meanwhile, Camille asked the twins to go to the safe room as quickly as possible, and while the kids would have listened to the handler any other time, they were hesitant to leave Dante alone.

Outside the mansion, minutes before the barrier was destroyed, two Death Knights stood outside the residence as a large pack of ghouls surrounded the vicinity.
One of the Death Knights was wearing a casual jacket with a white t-shirt, and his entire body was covered in bandages, including his face, making the man wholly unrecognizable.
Beside him, a female Death Knight with an obsidian light armor stood tall, wearing a helm with a long mane that also hid her identity.
"What do you think, Udras?" The female Death Knight asked her companion.
The fully bandaged man, Udras, approached the mansion's gate and extended his arm until he was mere centimeters away from the protective barrier, which had already killed a couple of the ghouls that tried to enter.
As the umbra accumulated in his hand, the man was able to touch the barrier without repercussions, and after a minute of analyzing the shield, he clenched his fist and sent a wave of umbra that shattered it like a glass panel.
"Hmm, I see… I suppose a warlock is the best way to counter another warlock," Vesnia, the female Death Knight, muttered.
When the barrier went down, the ghouls began to climb and rush inside the mansion's yard, only to get riddled with bullets by the Beta Team. Still, with both Udras and Vesnia present, the team was forced to retreat inside the mansion after a few of their teammates were killed.
"Now, I'll look for my target. You look for yours…" Vesnia commented, running in the opposite direction of Udras.
